The shoe most likely meant by “New Balance SuperComp Rebel” is the New Balance FuelCell Rebel v5: New Balance and the independent reviews cited here use that name, not “SuperComp Rebel.” The v5 is a neutral, lightweight trainer designed for everyday and quick runs. Its soft, flexible ride may suit comfortable daily miles better than runners seeking a consistently snappy, race-like feel.
Which shoe is this review about?
New Balance’s official US product listing and the independent reviews discussed below identify the model as the FuelCell Rebel v5. They do not identify a shoe called the “SuperComp Rebel.” This review covers the Rebel v5 only; its specifications should not be confused with those of a New Balance SuperComp model.

What does New Balance specify?
New Balance positions the Rebel v5 as a neutral running shoe for everyday running and quick runs. Its official US listing describes soft cushioning and a PEBA/EVA-blend FuelCell midsole. New Balance specifies a 6 mm heel-to-toe drop. The listed weights differ by version: the men’s listing gives 223 g (7.9 oz), while the women’s listing gives 177 g (6.2 oz). Treat these as the manufacturer’s listed figures, not a weight guaranteed for every size.
New Balance says the v5 has more foam underfoot than its predecessor, a wider and higher midsole geometry, more forefoot outsole rubber, and a redesigned heel and tongue. Those are manufacturer descriptions of the design, not independent findings that establish how the changes affect performance or lifespan. The product page displayed a US price of $144.99 when accessed in 2026; price, stock, and color availability can change.

How does the Rebel v5 feel on a run?
Reviews converge more on comfort and flexibility than on a pronounced fast-running sensation. RunRepeat describes a soft ride and a flexible shoe. RTINGS characterizes its ride as mellow and forgiving, with limited bounce. Running Shoes Guru’s reviewer found it too flexible and not snappy enough for some faster sessions. By contrast, Tom’s Guide reported a comfortable, versatile daily-trainer ride during 40 miles of testing.
That variation matters if “quick runs” in the product description sounds like a promise of a race shoe. The evidence supports considering the Rebel v5 as a cushioned daily trainer that can handle quicker running, but not assuming every runner will find it lively or propulsive. RTINGS reported that the shoe has no plate; it measured a 227.3 g (8.02 oz) weight, 36.2 mm heel stack, and 7.0 mm drop under its own testing protocol. Those measurements differ from New Balance’s headline specifications, so keep the sources’ figures distinct rather than treating them as interchangeable.

How should you choose a size and width?
New Balance describes the fit as snug and advises sizing up if you are between sizes. The official listing offers standard and wide widths. Reviewer experiences are not identical: Tom’s Guide found its reviewer’s usual size comfortable and described a fairly wide toe box, while fit can vary by foot shape and width. If possible, try the shoe on in the size and width you intend to run in; use the brand’s guidance as a starting point, not a guarantee.

What is known about durability?
Available observations raise questions about the upper and outsole, but they do not establish a dependable mileage lifespan.

- RunRepeat’s test gave the toe-box durability a 1/5 and heel-padding durability a 4/5. These are results from that review’s testing protocol, not predictions of how many miles an individual pair will last.
- Running Shoes Guru’s reviewer reported visible wear at the outer lateral heel after 120 km of personal use. That is one reviewer’s observation, not a controlled estimate of typical wear.
These findings warrant caution if long-term durability is your deciding factor, but neither supports a universal claim that every pair will fail at a particular point.

Who is the FuelCell Rebel v5 for?
- A plausible fit: runners looking for a neutral, soft, flexible daily trainer that can also be used for some quicker runs.
- Try before committing if possible: runners between sizes, with a particular width or toe-box preference, or who need a very specific fit.
- Consider your priorities: runners who want a distinctly bouncy, firm, or snappy feel may find the ride too mellow or flexible, based on some reviewers’ experiences.
- Be cautious about lifespan expectations: the durability reports are limited observations and test results, not a broad, comparable mileage study.
