The advertised $200 October discount is not verified by the available price reports. Apple set the U.S. starting price of the 13-inch M5 MacBook Air at $1,099, but the documented $899.99 Amazon offer was reported in May 2026—not October. October deal coverage instead lists a $1,234 price for a 13-inch M5 Air against a $1,299 reference price, figures that do not match Apple’s 13-inch launch price. Check Amazon’s live listing and the exact configuration before treating either figure as today’s offer.
What the October reports actually say
Prime Big Deal Days are reported to run October 6–7, 2026. Tom’s Guide’s October deal coverage lists a 13-inch M5 MacBook Air at $1,234 against $1,299. That report is not a captured live Amazon listing, and its $1,299 comparison figure does not match Apple’s U.S. launch price for the 13-inch model. Apple announced the 13-inch M5 Air starting at $1,099 and the 15-inch model starting at $1,299.

As a result, the October report does not substantiate a $200 discount on the 13-inch model from its $1,099 launch price. Nor does it establish what Amazon is charging now. Prices and stock can change, so the exact live listing is decisive.
How the reported prices compare
| When and source | Model or price claim | What it establishes |
|---|---|---|
| March 3, 2026 — Apple | 13-inch M5 MacBook Air: $1,099 U.S. starting price; 15-inch: $1,299 U.S. starting price | Launch prices, not guaranteed current retail prices. |
| May 26, 2026 — MacRumors | Amazon price of $899.99, down from $1,099, for the 512GB 13-inch model | A historical offer reported in May, described at the time as a record low. It does not confirm an October price. |
| October 2026 — Tom’s Guide | 13-inch M5 Air listed at $1,234 against $1,299 | Third-party deal reporting, not a live Amazon listing captured here; the comparison price conflicts with Apple’s 13-inch launch price. |
Apple’s launch announcement also gave education starting prices of $999 for the 13-inch and $1,199 for the 15-inch model. Those are education prices, not general retail comparisons.

Check the Amazon listing before buying
Confirm that the product page is for the 13-inch MacBook Air with M5, rather than the 15-inch model, and check the memory and storage shown on the selected configuration. The 512GB 13-inch configuration is the one identified in the historical $899.99 report; do not assume another configuration has the same price.
- Compare the current price with the reference price shown for that exact configuration; Apple’s launch price is a useful reference, not proof of Amazon’s former or current price.
- Check the seller, stock status, shipping terms, and any offer eligibility on the listing.
- Recheck the final price at checkout, especially during Prime Big Deal Days, when event pricing may change.
Which M5 MacBook Air is being discussed?
The title’s $1,099 figure corresponds to Apple’s U.S. launch starting price for the 13-inch M5 MacBook Air. Apple’s March 2026 announcement set the 15-inch model’s starting price at $1,299, so that figure should not be used as the 13-inch model’s launch-price comparison. Apple identifies the 13-inch M5 Air as a 2026 product and lists Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 connectivity; its technical specifications provide model-specific details.

Apple’s launch prices identify the models but do not establish that one is a better purchase for a particular buyer. The price comparison should be made between the same screen size and configuration, not between the 13-inch listing and a 15-inch reference price.
Should you buy now or wait?
If Amazon’s live page genuinely shows the 13-inch M5 configuration you want at $899.99, that matches the May price MacRumors reported; it is not evidence of a new October offer. If the live price is closer to the October figure reported by Tom’s Guide, compare the actual configuration and seller details rather than relying on its mismatched $1,299 reference. Waiting until October 6–7 may expose you to changing event offers, but the available reporting does not establish that Amazon will offer the 13-inch model for $899.99 during the event.

The October deal figures above are reported by Tom’s Guide, while the May price is historical MacRumors reporting.
