The exact model CHOICE reviewed is marked discontinued, however, and current Kmart and Target listings do not conclusively establish that their $20 Anko saucepan is the same product. Check the model identity before treating the review as a verdict on a current listing.
What CHOICE found about the reviewed saucepan
CHOICE reports that the 20cm Anko stainless steel saucepan “with Lid” scored 66% overall and did not perform particularly well in its scrambled-egg test. The publicly accessible product page labels this model discontinued. Its detailed test breakdown—including individual scores for boiling, evenness and ease of use—is not publicly visible, so those sub-scores cannot be inferred.

CHOICE’s usability comments are mixed. It describes the pan as light and balanced, easy to use one-handed and easy to pour from. The glass lid makes it possible to check food without lifting it. But CHOICE identifies several drawbacks involving the lid:
- The handle is narrow and offers limited protection from heat.
- Crevices around the rim can collect grime.
- The lid may rattle and jump while water boils.
- The stainless steel directly beneath the lid handle can become dangerously hot. CHOICE warns: “The circle of stainless steel under the lid handle can become dangerously hot, so you need to be very careful when using it.”
Do not confuse it with a similarly named model
CHOICE’s article also discusses a different, similarly named Kmart Anko 20cm stainless saucepan. That separate pan performed well in tests of boiling water and scrambled eggs and scored highly against more expensive products. The article quotes CHOICE kitchen expert Chantelle Dart saying of that other pan, “These scores are comparable with other saucepans that cost hundreds of dollars.” Those comments do not describe the reviewed “with Lid” model and should not be used to judge it.

Is the current $20 listing the same product?
Kmart and Target currently list a 20cm Anko stainless steel saucepan with a glass lid and aluminium base, each showing a $20 price at the time the pages were accessed in 2026. The available product information does not conclusively establish that either listing is the exact discontinued saucepan CHOICE tested.

Cooktop and cleaning claims on current listings
Kmart and Target list their current 20cm products as compatible with electric, gas, ceramic, halogen and induction cooktops, and describe them as dishwasher-safe. These are retailer claims for the current listings, not proof that every saucepan carrying a similar name has the same construction or care guidance. Check the label and the live listing for the exact item before buying or cleaning it.
Who should consider it?
If you are considering the exact “with Lid” model reviewed by CHOICE, its 66% result and lid-related concerns are reasons to look closely at whether the design suits your cooking and handling habits. Take particular care with the hot metal beneath the lid handle. If you are looking at a current Anko listing, first establish whether it is the same model; CHOICE’s weaker result for the discontinued pan and praise for a distinct, similarly named pan cannot be transferred to an unverified product.
