Is the Kintarō DLC Worth Buying in Ravenswatch?

Yes—if you already own Ravenswatch and want a radically different hero to learn. Kintarō is a focused character DLC priced at US$7.99 on Steam when checked, built around switching between Kintarō and his bear companion Kuma. It also includes two Ultimates, seven outfits and a seven-Memory narrated story. It is a weaker purchase if you expect a long campaign, roster-wide cosmetics or settled evidence that the hero is balanced for high-level play.

What the Kintarō DLC includes

Kintarō is a paid add-on for Ravenswatch, not a standalone game. The Steam listing requires the base game and describes one playable hero, Kintarō, together with his abilities, Talents and two Ultimates. The package also contains seven exclusive outfits for Kintarō and Kuma and a narrated story presented through seven Memories. You can verify the listed contents on the official Steam product page.

Included item What is established What is not stated
Playable character Kintarō, with Kuma as a central part of his combat design A guaranteed number of hours of play
Build options Kintarō’s abilities and Talents A complete list of Talents or their final balance
Ultimate abilities Two Ultimates Which Ultimate is strongest in every situation
Cosmetics Seven exclusive outfits for Kintarō and Kuma Outfits for other heroes
Story A narrated story told through seven Memories The story’s runtime or campaign scale

That makes the purchase primarily a new-playstyle investment. The cosmetics and Memories add context and collection value, but the reason to buy is access to Kintarō himself rather than a large new region or a separate campaign.

The item count also needs careful interpretation. “Seven outfits” is a concrete cosmetic quantity, but it does not mean seven complete costume sets for the whole roster. The listed outfits are tied to Kintarō and Kuma. Likewise, “seven Memories” describes the structure of the narrated story, not seven chapters of a specified length.

How Kintarō’s gameplay differs from a normal hero

Two-character combat is the defining hook

Passtech Games describes Kintarō as switching between conventional play and a dual style involving Kuma. Depending on the situation, you can fight mounted on the bear or fight alongside it. The developer’s gameplay announcement also says Kuma can be controlled with keyboard and mouse. Those details make Kintarō more than a standard hero with an additional summon: positioning and deciding how to use the two-character setup are intended to be part of the moment-to-moment decisions. The launch announcement is available through Passtech’s Steam Community news feed.

Expect a learning-heavy character

A hero that changes between mounted and side-by-side fighting naturally asks you to learn more interactions than a character with one fixed moveset. You may need to understand when to stay mounted, when to separate from Kuma, how each mode handles threats and how your Talents alter those choices. The official material establishes the switching concept, but it does not publish a difficulty rating, a recommended build or a measured comparison with the existing roster.

In practical terms, the appeal is not simply having a second health bar or an extra visual effect. The appeal is having a kit whose value depends on choosing the appropriate relationship with Kuma for the moment. Players who enjoy testing Talents and refining a character over repeated runs have a clear reason to engage with that system. Players who prefer a hero that can be understood quickly from one fixed moveset may find the same design demanding.

Early player discussion includes people calling Kintarō complex and raising questions about survivability or damage. Those comments are individual launch-day impressions, not controlled tests or proof of a widespread balance issue. Read the discussion as a list of questions to investigate rather than a final judgment; it is collected in this launch-day Reddit thread.

What the available information cannot tell you

  • There is no reliable Kintarō-specific playtime estimate in the cited listings.
  • The available evidence does not establish his long-term endgame viability.
  • It is too early to know whether launch concerns about damage or survivability persist after balance patches.
  • No measured comparison shows how much more or less complex Kintarō is than another hero.
  • There is no published guarantee that one of the two Ultimates is optimal for every encounter or build.
  • The listings do not specify how long it takes to unlock or experience all seven Memories and outfits.

If you buy mainly for high-difficulty runs, treat the character’s current performance as provisional and check recent patch notes and review trends before spending money. The decision is much easier if you are buying for experimentation rather than for a guaranteed tier-list position.

Price, platforms and requirements

Steam listed the DLC at US$7.99 when checked after launch. That is a listed US price, not a permanent worldwide price: regional pricing, taxes and sales can change the amount you see. The DLC launched on October 12, 2026. Check the storefront for your platform and region at the time of purchase rather than assuming the Steam figure applies everywhere.

Base game Ravenswatch is required. Kintarō is not a standalone purchase.

Buying the DLC on a platform where you do not own the base game will not give you a separate Kintarō experience. Confirm that both products are attached to the same platform account and storefront. The announced cross-platform availability means console players are not limited to Steam, but the cited listings do not establish cross-buy or cross-save terms, so do not assume a purchase transfers between platforms.

The announcement also notes that Kintarō launched alongside a free update focused on talent reworks for all heroes. Do not attribute that update’s value to the paid DLC: every owner may receive the free changes, while the purchase unlocks Kintarō and the listed extras. If you are returning to the game because of the reworks, evaluate those free changes separately from the $7.99 decision.

Is $7.99 good value?

At the Steam launch price, the calculation is straightforward. You are paying for one hero with a substantial amount of build content, two Ultimates, seven character-and-bear outfits and a seven-part narrated story. That is attractive if you regularly return to Ravenswatch and enjoy mastering another character. A player who spends dozens of runs experimenting with Talents can receive value from the hero even if the Memories are brief.

The price is easier to justify when you value replayable mechanics. Kintarō’s switching premise can affect every run, while a short story is experienced only once and cosmetics matter mainly to players who like collecting or customizing this particular hero. In other words, the strongest value case is “I want to play Kintarō repeatedly,” not “I want the largest possible amount of narrative per dollar.”

The package is less convincing for a buyer measuring value by campaign length. The listing confirms seven Memories but does not give their duration, and it does not promise a new map, chapter-length campaign or new content for every hero. You should therefore treat the story as an additional narrative layer rather than pricing the DLC as a full expansion.

Cosmetics have a similar boundary. Seven outfits is a specific quantity, but all of them are for Kintarō and Kuma. If you want skins across the entire roster, this DLC does not claim to provide them. There is also no supported playtime comparison with another hero DLC, so a larger or smaller item count elsewhere cannot prove better gameplay value.

Sales can change the calculation, but no future discount is established. If the character concept already appeals to you, the launch price is a clear, finite cost for access to one hero. If you are uncertain about the controls, waiting for more player footage or a sale reduces risk without changing what the package contains.

What early reviews say—and why that evidence is limited

On October 13, 2026, Steam showed a “Mostly Positive” rating based on 70% positive sentiment from 30 user reviews. That is a very small sample gathered roughly one day after release. It can indicate that the first buyers were divided but broadly favorable; it cannot establish a durable score, long-term replay value or settled balance. The figure is a volatile storefront snapshot, not an independent study.

The Reddit launch discussion supplies additional context but not a verdict. Some participants described the hero as complex and questioned survivability or damage. Those are useful signals for a cautious buyer, especially one who dislikes mechanically demanding characters, yet they remain anecdotal and may reflect early builds, unfamiliarity or individual play preferences.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

A review score also cannot tell you whether the hero suits your preferred mode of play. A player who enjoys learning Kuma’s positioning may rate the same complexity positively, while someone seeking a simple pick-up-and-play character may rate it negatively. Read the written reviews for reasons, not only the percentage.

Because the DLC released on October 12, 2026, there has not been enough time in the available evidence to evaluate how Kintarō performs after a full balance cycle. If your purchase depends on reliable high-level performance, waiting for a larger review sample and subsequent patch notes is rational rather than pessimistic.

Who should buy Kintarō now?

A strong fit

  • You already own Ravenswatch and want a new hero rather than a standalone game.
  • You enjoy learning unusual control schemes and experimenting with Talents.
  • The idea of switching between mounted combat and fighting with Kuma sounds more appealing than a familiar, fixed moveset.
  • You value character-specific cosmetics and are interested in a narrated side story.
  • You are comfortable accepting that launch balance may change.
  • You expect to replay the character often enough that the mechanics matter more than a stated story runtime.

A weaker fit

  • You mainly want a long narrative expansion, a new campaign or a new area.
  • You expect cosmetics for the whole roster instead of Kintarō and Kuma.
  • You do not enjoy learning complex characters or managing two connected combat roles.
  • You are buying only for competitive or high-difficulty viability and need proven results immediately.
  • You do not yet own the base game; the DLC alone will not provide a playable experience.
  • You are interested only in the free talent reworks, which are separate from the paid character purchase.

Should you wait for more evidence?

Waiting makes the most sense when balance is your deciding factor. The current review sample is only 30 posts, and the available community conversation is from launch day. A later check should focus on three things:

Rank #4
Ravenswatch Legendary Edition - PS4 - UK PAL (EU Version)
  • UK PSN account may be required for any online features
  1. Review volume and trend: Look for a substantially larger sample than the initial 30 reviews and read recent comments rather than relying only on the aggregate label.
  2. Patch notes: Check whether developers adjust Kintarō’s damage, survivability, mode switching or Kuma interactions.
  3. High-level reports: Look for detailed explanations of how the hero performs in difficult content, not just statements that the character feels strong or weak.

You can also watch for agreement across independent players. If several later reviews identify the same survivability or damage issue and patch notes address it, that is stronger evidence than one launch-day comment. Conversely, a larger sample praising the mounted and side-by-side systems would support buying for the playstyle, even if no universal ranking emerges.

Waiting does not provide a guaranteed discount, and no future price is established here. It simply gives you better information about the one area the launch evidence cannot settle: how Kintarō holds up after players have learned the kit and developers have responded to feedback.

How to compare Kintarō with another hero DLC

If you are choosing between Kintarō and a different Ravenswatch character add-on, use the same criteria instead of comparing headline item counts:

Decision axis Question to ask Why it matters
Moment-to-moment change Does the hero introduce a genuinely different way to fight? Kintarō’s mounted and side-by-side Kuma play is the central reason to choose him.
Learning cost Do you want a familiar character or a system that rewards practice? Kintarō’s dual-character concept may appeal to experimenters but frustrate players seeking simplicity.
Extras Are the included story and cosmetics relevant to you? Kintarō offers seven Memories and seven outfits, all tied to Kintarō or Kuma; story length is not stated.
Price What is the current price on your platform and in your region? The confirmed $7.99 figure is the Steam US listing at launch, not a universal price.
Evidence maturity How large and how old is the review sample? Kintarō’s initial 70%-positive result from 30 reviews is too early to settle balance or longevity.

There is no supported playtime comparison between Kintarō and other hero DLC in the available information, so avoid treating a larger cosmetic count or an older review score as proof of greater gameplay value. Compare the actual fantasy and controls you want to play, then verify each add-on’s current platform price.

A practical buying checklist

  1. Confirm that you own Ravenswatch on the same platform where you intend to purchase the add-on.
  2. Open your platform’s current store page and verify the live regional price; use $7.99 only as the historical Steam US reference.
  3. Decide whether the Kintarō-and-Kuma gameplay concept itself interests you. If it does not, the story and outfits are unlikely to justify the purchase alone.
  4. Separate the free all-hero talent reworks from the paid content when calculating value.
  5. If endgame performance is essential, read newer reviews and patch notes before buying.
  6. Check whether you are comfortable with a learning curve that has no official difficulty rating or guaranteed build recommendation.
  7. Remember that the seven Memories have no listed runtime, so do not buy expecting a campaign of a specific length.

Verdict: worth buying for the right Ravenswatch player

Kintarō is worth buying at the listed Steam price for an existing Ravenswatch player who wants a distinctive, practice-heavy hero. The Kuma partnership, mounted and side-by-side fighting, two Ultimates, seven outfits and seven narrated Memories give the $7.99 package a clear identity beyond a cosmetic unlock.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

It is not the right purchase if your definition of value is a long standalone story, a large campaign expansion or confirmed high-level balance. The DLC requires the base game, the story length is unquantified, and the only available review snapshot—70% positive from 30 Steam reviews observed October 13, 2026—is too early to answer durability or endgame questions. Buy for the unusual hero concept; wait if you need mature balance evidence.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Kintarō worth buying in Ravenswatch?

For an existing Ravenswatch player who enjoys experimenting with heroes, Kintarō is a reasonable buy because the Kuma-based mounted and side-by-side combat changes the way you play. It is a weaker choice if you want a long campaign or roster-wide cosmetics.

Is Kintarō worth $8?

The Steam US listing showed $7.99 at launch. That price buys one hero, his abilities and Talents, two Ultimates, seven Kintarō-and-Kuma outfits and a narrated story in seven Memories. It is strongest value for players who will replay the hero; story runtime and playtime are not specified.

How does Kintarō play?

His defining system is switching between conventional play and dual gameplay with Kuma. You can fight mounted or alongside the bear, and the official announcement says Kuma can be controlled with keyboard and mouse. Exact optimal strategies are not established by the early listings.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Do you need Ravenswatch to play the Kintarō DLC?

Yes. The DLC requires the Ravenswatch base game and is not a standalone purchase.

Is Kintarō hard to play?

Early launch-day players described him as complex, but there is no official difficulty rating or measured comparison with other heroes. Expect a character that requires learning how mounted and side-by-side modes interact, then check newer player feedback for a clearer picture.

What comes with the Kintarō DLC?

The listed package includes Kintarō, his abilities and Talents, two Ultimates, seven exclusive outfits for Kintarō and Kuma, and a narrated story told through seven Memories.

Is the all-hero talent rework part of the paid DLC?

No. Kintarō launched alongside a free update focused on talent reworks for all heroes. Those free changes should be evaluated separately from the paid character and its extras.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Should I wait before buying Kintarō?

Wait if high-difficulty viability, survivability or damage balance is decisive. Steam’s early snapshot was 70% positive from only 30 reviews on October 13, 2026, and Reddit discussion was anecdotal. More reviews and patch notes will provide firmer evidence.

The Bottom Line

Bottom line: Buy Kintarō if you own Ravenswatch and want a distinctive hero built around Kuma. Wait if you need a long story, whole-roster cosmetics or mature balance evidence.
