Its public page lists an alloy body, 11 cutting positions, a 10 mm lowest cut, a 70 mm highest cut, a 48 cm cutting width and a weight of 37 kg. These are the figures CHOICE reports for this exact legacy model; they should not be silently replaced by specifications for newer HRU196 variants. Honda’s current-family product and specification pages list PWUH and PBUH variants, not the M1PWUY. Honda describes the family as having a 19-inch alloy deck, 54-litre polymer catcher, mulching capability, swing-back blades and a 163 cc GXV160 four-stroke engine. For the listed current PWUH and PBUH variants, Honda specifies a 470 mm cutting width, 11 height stages from 16–80 mm, 200 mm wheels and a 54-litre catcher. Honda describes the PWUH as push propelled and distinguishes engine-brake and blade-brake safety variants. These details are useful context for the family, but do not establish that the exact M1 mower has identical equipment. Price: the available figures are for different model vintages
CHOICE lists $1,149 for the exact M1PWUY alongside its pre-2019 test period. Treat that as historical context, not today’s market price. Honda lists recommended retail prices of $1,349 for HRU196PWUH and $1,449 for HRU196PBUH, accurate as of 1 August 2025. Those prices apply to different, newer suffixes; Honda says prices may change and not every product is available at every dealer. Warranty depends on model, purchase date and use
Honda publishes separate warranty terms for purchases before 31 August 2025 and on or after 1 September 2025. The newer schedule names M2 variants, including HRU196M2PWUH and HRU196M2PBUH; that does not, by itself, establish the applicable warranty for an M1PWUY. Terms can also depend on whether the mower is used privately or commercially and on qualifying conditions and geography. Visible comments are mixed and mention performance, weight, servicing and wear. These are self-selected owner submissions, not controlled testing, and the count and score can change over time. They can flag topics to ask about when inspecting a used mower, but they do not substitute for CHOICE’s restricted test results or prove how a particular mower will perform. What to verify before buying
- Read the complete model code on the mower or its documentation. M1PWUY, PWUH, PBUH and M2 variants are not interchangeable names.
- For a used M1PWUY, check its condition and maintenance history, particularly the blade, air cleaner and service items identified in Honda’s maintenance guidance.
- Confirm the actual cutting width, height adjustment, catcher and brake configuration on the specific mower rather than assuming current-family specifications apply.
