The Google Nest Mini (2nd gen) is a compact, outlet-powered smart speaker with Google Assistant features and a built-in wall-mount slot. Google’s published specifications explain its size, connections and setup requirements, but they do not establish how it sounds in a real room or how its microphone performs in everyday use. This review focuses on what the documented facts can—and cannot—tell you before buying.
What is the Google Nest Mini (2nd gen)?
Google calls this model the “Google Nest Mini (2nd gen).” It is the second generation of the compact speaker line that began with the Google Home Mini. One practical distinction: Google says the Nest Mini has a screw slot on the back for wall mounting; the first-generation Home Mini does not. Google’s device specifications and wall-mount instructions document the difference.

What do the specifications tell you?
| Specification | Google’s published detail | What it means for placement or use |
|---|---|---|
| Dimensions and weight | 98 mm diameter, 42 mm high; 181 g | Small and light enough for a counter, shelf or suitable wall mount. |
| Power | 15 W requirement; 1.5 m cable | It needs a nearby outlet and is not a battery-powered portable speaker. |
| Audio hardware | 40 mm driver; 360-degree sound | These are hardware and design specifications, not proof of sound quality or loudness. |
| Microphones | Three far-field microphones; Voice Match listed | Google identifies the microphone configuration, but the specification does not measure recognition performance in a particular room. |
| Wireless connections | 802.11 b/g/n/ac Wi-Fi at 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz; Bluetooth 5.0; Google Cast | It supports common Wi-Fi bands and Bluetooth, as well as Google’s casting protocol. |
| Colors | Chalk, Charcoal, Coral and Sky | Google lists these colors; availability can vary by country. |
Google also says the fabric top is made from 100% recycled plastic bottles and the external enclosure contains at least 35% post-consumer recycled plastic. These are Google’s product-material claims, not independent lifecycle assessments. Google’s specifications do not provide independent listening tests, durability results or microphone benchmarks.
Is it a good fit for your room and routine?
It may suit a fixed listening spot
The small footprint and 1.5 m power cable make the Nest Mini easy to place where there is an outlet and reliable Wi-Fi. Google lists Wi-Fi and mains power as requirements, so it is not suited to outings or locations without power.

Do not buy on the basis of specifications alone
A 40 mm driver, 360-degree design and three far-field microphones describe the hardware, but they do not establish how full the sound will seem, how well it handles a noisy room or whether it will meet your expectations for music. No independent listening or microphone-performance results are established here, so treat those questions as unresolved rather than assuming performance from the spec sheet.
Consider the platform features you need
Google currently lists the Nest Mini (2nd gen) as compatible with Gemini for Home. Its help documentation says older speakers and displays support most Gemini for Home features, but not Gemini Live. Specific feature access can depend on firmware, rollout, account and region, so check Google’s current Gemini for Home compatibility guidance before relying on a particular capability.
What do you need to set it up?

Yes. The slot on the back is designed for hanging the second-generation Nest Mini. Google’s instruction is: “Your Google Nest Mini can be hung on a wall using the screw slot on the back of the device.” — Google, “Wall mount your Google Nest Mini.”
Google specifies a #8 pan-head screw with a flat bottom and top and rounded edges. Use a wall anchor if the wall material requires one; Google’s listed mounting needs do not include the screw or anchor.

How should you judge whether it is worth buying?
The published facts make the clearest case for buyers who want a small, fixed-location Google smart speaker and value the option to mount it. They also make the main constraints clear: it needs an outlet and Wi-Fi, and its specifications alone do not answer whether its sound or microphones will satisfy you.
Price, stock and color availability depend on the country and seller, and no current regional price is established here. Check a local listing before deciding. If sound quality is the deciding factor, seek credible listening tests or audition the speaker rather than treating driver size or the 360-degree label as a performance verdict.
