Its multitasking tools, strong reported performance and upgraded ultrawide camera make it compelling—but its nearly square inner display is awkward for widescreen video, it lacks a 5x periscope camera and built-in Qi2 magnets, and it costs more than the wider Galaxy Z Fold 8. Tech Advisor’s Anyron Copeman reached a similar split verdict in his August 31, 2026 review: an excellent book-style foldable for a specific user, but not the better buy for most people.
Who should buy the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra?
Consider the Ultra if your priority is book-style multitasking: its 8-inch inner display gives apps room to sit side by side, and the review describes One UI 9’s taskbar, drag-and-drop and Flex Mode as strengths. It makes the most sense when that wider workspace is central to how you will use the phone.

The less expensive, wider Galaxy Z Fold 8 is the more natural fit if you care more about video, browsing and a comfortable phone-to-tablet shape. That is Copeman’s comparative judgment, not the result of a separate test: he describes the Ultra as one of the best phones he has tried, yet says he cannot recommend it to most readers because its advantages are specialized.

Inner display: room for apps, not ideal for video
Tech Advisor lists an 8-inch OLED inner display at 2256 × 2504 with a 120Hz refresh rate. Its 10:9 shape is much closer to square than a widescreen video frame. Copeman found that shape useful for multitasking, but said it leaves large black bars around widescreen video. The large diagonal therefore does not translate into a full-screen movie experience.

Cover display: a conventional-size starting point
The review lists a 6.5-inch OLED cover display with 1080 × 2520 resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. At 215g, according to the same review, the Ultra is also a substantial device to carry; the review characterizes the wider Fold 8’s form factor as more comfortable. Those are the reviewer’s assessments, not measurements from an independent comparison.
Is the multitasking experience worth paying extra for?
Copeman reports that One UI 9, based on Android 17, can show up to three apps side by side on the inner screen. A desktop-style taskbar and drag-and-drop support are intended to make switching between apps and moving content easier. Flex Mode, available with compatible apps, lets the phone’s partially folded position serve as part of the interface.
That toolset is the Ultra’s clearest reason to exist alongside the wider Fold 8. If you routinely keep several apps open or use the phone as a compact mobile workstation, the extra screen area and software flexibility may matter more than the unusual aspect ratio. A Bluetooth keyboard could complement that kind of workflow, but Tech Advisor did not test or recommend a particular keyboard.

What cameras does it have, and what is missing?
The review lists a 200MP main camera, a 50MP ultrawide and a 10MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom, plus dual 10MP selfie cameras. Copeman praises the main camera and upgraded ultrawide, but notes that the phone lacks a separate 5x periscope lens. The rear camera can record video up to 8K at 30fps, according to the review’s specifications.
In practical terms, the camera setup offers a high-resolution main sensor and a stronger ultrawide than the previous configuration described in the review, while long-range zoom is not its standout feature. The megapixel counts alone do not establish image quality; the praise for the main and ultrawide cameras is the reviewer’s hands-on opinion.
Does it support Qi2 magnets?
No built-in Qi2 magnets are reported. The review says a compatible case is needed for faster Qi2 wireless charging and magnetic accessories. It does not identify or test a particular case, so check compatibility for the exact Fold 8 Ultra model and region before buying one.

Tech Advisor reported these launch prices in 2026. They are historical launch figures, not a statement of current prices; retailer prices and availability may have changed.
| Model and configuration | Reported launch price |
|---|---|
| Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra | £1,899 / $2,099.99 |
| Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, 1TB | Up to £2,409 / $2,699.99 |
| Wider Galaxy Z Fold 8, starting configuration | From £1,699 / $1,899.99 |
On those reported starting prices, the Ultra launched at a premium over the wider Fold 8. Whether that gap remains today depends on current regional pricing and offers.
What else does the review report about its specifications?
The following are figures reported in Tech Advisor’s review and specifications listing; they have not been independently verified here.
- Processor and memory: Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5; 12GB or 16GB RAM.
- Storage: 256GB, 512GB or 1TB.
- Charging and resistance: 45W wired charging and IP48 resistance.
- Display details: 480Hz PWM rate; Samsung-advertised peak brightness of 3,000 nits.
- Software: One UI 9 based on Android 17.
Final verdict: a specialist foldable, not the default choice
Copeman’s review calls the Ultra “the best book-style foldable on the planet,” while qualifying that praise with the view that it is less appealing unless multitasking is a priority. The large inner screen and flexible app layout are persuasive reasons to choose it; the video-unfriendly shape, missing 5x periscope and launch-price premium are reasons many buyers may prefer the wider Fold 8. Choose the Ultra for its particular multitasking strengths, not simply because it is the more expensive model.
