Its strongest case is a balance of useful cleaning output, automatic operation and manageable filter upkeep. The trade-offs are that higher airflow is much louder, and the unit includes an ionizer that RTINGS says can be switched off.
This assessment separates Coway’s published specifications from RTINGS’ independent measurements; it is not based on hands-on testing.

What room size is the AP-1512HH suited to?
Room coverage is meaningful only when paired with an air-change target. Coway lists three areas for the AP-1512HH, each at a different rate of air turnover:

These are Coway’s coverage claims, not three equivalent promises of cleaning performance. If your priority is frequent cleaning, compare your room with the 361 ft² figure rather than relying on the largest number in the range. Ceiling height and room layout also affect how well a purifier serves a space; the listed area alone does not establish performance in every room.

Coway’s product page publishes category-specific Clean Air Delivery Rate (CADR) figures of 233 for smoke, 246 for dust and 240 for pollen. Those are the manufacturer’s figures and are useful when comparing like-for-like CADR specifications, not a guarantee of a particular result in an individual home.
How much air does it clean at a tolerable noise level?
There is a real speed-versus-noise trade-off. Coway specifies a noise range of 24–53 dB(A). In its testing, RTINGS measured 33.5 dBA at the lowest fan setting and 60.3 dBA at the highest. The two sets of figures come from different sources and may use different measurement methods, so they should not be treated as directly equivalent readings.

RTINGS also measured PM1.0 particle-cleaning output under two conditions. Its maximum-speed test produced 377 m³/hr (222 CFM), which RTINGS associated with a recommended room size of 32.1 m². At its 45 dBA noise threshold, the measured output was 141 m³/hr (83 CFM), with a recommended room size of 12.0 m². RTINGS characterizes the low-noise result as only fair and better suited to smaller spaces.

What filtration and controls does it use?
Coway describes a four-stage system: a pre-filter, deodorization filter, HEPA filter and bipolar device. RTINGS describes the design as three physical filter layers plus an ionizer, and notes that the ionizer can be turned off. RTINGS also notes ozone as a byproduct of ionization that can irritate the respiratory system with prolonged exposure. The available information does not establish a model-specific ozone concentration or quantify a health risk.
The purifier has Auto, fan speeds 1 through 3, and Eco settings, plus 1-, 4- and 8-hour timers. Coway says Auto adjusts fan speed in response to detected air quality. In Coway’s description, Eco turns the fan off after air quality remains purified for 30 minutes and restarts it when pollution is detected. These are manufacturer-described behaviors, not independent test results.

What maintenance and replacement filters should owners expect?
Coway calls the pre-filter washable and gives expected service lives of six months for the deodorization filter and one year for the HEPA filter. These are the manufacturer’s stated intervals; actual replacement timing may depend on use and conditions. RTINGS recommends cleaning the pre-filter every two to four weeks, a reviewer maintenance recommendation rather than Coway’s stated replacement schedule.

Before buying replacement filters, check that they are explicitly compatible with the AP-1512HH. A current replacement-filter price and exact replacement SKU are not established here, so include those in your ownership-cost check rather than assuming a recurring cost.

What are the size, weight and power specifications?
Coway lists the AP-1512HH at 16.8 × 18.3 × 9.6 inches and 12.3 pounds, with 77 W power consumption. The manufacturer describes it for floor or tabletop use; Consumer Reports likewise describes floor or tabletop placement in a large room up to 361 square feet. Allow space for its air intake and outlet rather than placing it tightly against furniture.
Who should buy the Coway AP-1512HH?
- Consider it if your room is near Coway’s 361 ft² coverage figure at 4.8 air changes per hour, you can use a faster setting when needed, and you are comfortable cleaning the pre-filter and replacing the other filters on schedule.
- Think carefully if you need quiet operation while cleaning a large room. RTINGS’ lower-noise test showed substantially lower airflow and a much smaller recommended room size than its maximum-speed test.
- Look elsewhere or verify fit first if your decision depends on verified current filter prices, warranty terms, or a model-specific ozone measurement; those details are not established in the cited product and review information.
Consumer Reports says its summary assessment draws on dust and smoke removal in a test chamber and quietness for room purifiers, but the available result does not provide a current score or detailed test results. It therefore cannot support a more precise comparison on those measures.
