The current option is Hyperledger Fabric Certified Practitioner (HFCP), which assesses a different set of skills in a multiple-choice exam. If you already hold CHFD, verify its certificate ID and dates rather than assuming that a badge is still active.
What CHFD was
The Certified Hyperledger Fabric Developer (CHFD) launched in 2020 as a practical, performance-based Linux Foundation exam. Candidates completed a two-hour, online-proctored assessment using a Web IDE or command line rather than answering ordinary multiple-choice questions.
The work covered client applications, smart contracts, packaging and deployment, application lifecycle tasks, and programming in Java or Node.js. Smart-contract work could also involve Go. The launch description emphasized live-system tasks designed to show that a candidate could build and operate Fabric applications.
The 2020 exam agreement restricted candidates to specified technical documentation and prohibited discussion forums such as Stack Overflow, Stack Exchange, Server Fault and Super User during the assessment.

Is CHFD discontinued?
There is enough evidence to call CHFD an older credential that is no longer the current catalog route. The current Linux Foundation Hyperledger catalog lists HFCP and related LFS270 offerings, but does not list CHFD.
That catalog absence is not the same as a formal retirement notice. Unless the Linux Foundation confirms retirement directly, the precise statement is that CHFD is no longer the currently marketed path—not that every existing CHFD certificate has been cancelled.

How to check whether an existing CHFD is valid
- Find the certificate ID. Use the ID on the Linux Foundation certificate or its Credly badge; a badge image by itself is not proof of current status.
- Use the Linux Foundation Certification Verification Tool. The certification policy identifies that tool as the primary way to confirm a certification’s status.
- Check achievement and expiration dates. The Linux Foundation policy says certifications expire 24 months after requirements are met unless they are renewed or revoked. Apply that rule to the dates shown for the individual credential.
- Resolve discrepancies with the issuer. If a Credly record, certificate document and verification result disagree, treat the verification record and the issuer’s response as authoritative rather than relying on an old résumé entry.
Should you take CHFD or HFCP?
If you are buying a new certification
Start with HFCP because it is the current catalog offering. The exam-only price listed by the Linux Foundation is $250, and an LFS270 course-plus-exam bundle is listed at $299. HFCP is based on Fabric v2.5 and covers both administration and development across the Fabric lifecycle.
Do not treat HFCP as a replacement for the exact evidence CHFD provided. HFCP’s 90-minute multiple-choice format tests understanding of concepts and design; it does not directly observe you packaging, deploying or debugging a live application.

If a job specifically asks for CHFD
Ask the employer whether an existing, verifiable CHFD is required or whether current Fabric competence is the real requirement. Because CHFD is absent from the current catalog, a new candidate may not be able to follow the original purchase path. A verified legacy credential can still document what you earned, but its relevance depends on the role and the age of the underlying Fabric knowledge.
If the role requires implementation ability
Pair HFCP—or any legacy CHFD—with evidence that can be inspected: a public or interview-ready Fabric lab, a code sample, deployment notes, or relevant work history. The official pages cited here do not publish pass-rate, salary or hiring-impact statistics, so no certification should be presented as a guaranteed employment signal.
What the credentials actually prove
- CHFD: At the time it was offered, successful completion demonstrated performance on practical developer tasks under proctored conditions.
- HFCP: Successful completion demonstrates understanding of blockchain fundamentals, the Hyperledger Fabric model and network design, including production deployment considerations, through a multiple-choice assessment.
- Neither credential alone: Neither certificate establishes a candidate’s current project experience, production incident judgment or ability to deliver a complete system without additional evidence.
Is a Hyperledger certification worth it?
Its value depends on the signal a particular employer recognizes and on whether the credential is current for the technology version in use. HFCP can provide a reasonably priced, issuer-verified baseline for Fabric knowledge. CHFD is more distinctive as evidence of hands-on assessment, but it is older and no longer the catalog route.
For either credential, keep the certificate ID, achievement date and verification result available, and demonstrate practical ability separately. A generic Hyperledger or blockchain book can help you prepare, but reading one is not a substitute for passing the certification exam.
