The 5 L and 3 kg figures should not be read as proof that the basket will cook that much food evenly. The manual warns that a heavily filled basket can leave too little room to shake ingredients, and recommends smaller batches if food cooks poorly or unevenly. For comparison shopping, look at the physical footprint and how food is arranged in the basket, not just the advertised capacity.

Using and cleaning the LAF500 safely
Breville’s instruction book calls for a stable, heat-resistant surface with clearance from surrounding materials. Hot steam exits at the rear, and the pan and basket stay hot after cooking; use insulated oven mitts and keep food below the basket’s MAX mark. For more even cooking
Shake or turn ingredients at least once during cooking, and more often for longer cooking times. If the basket is so full that food cannot be shaken effectively, make a smaller batch. If cooking is poor or uneven, the manual also advises checking that the basket is seated and the food remains below MAX.

For cleaning
- Unplug the appliance and let it cool.
- Soak the pan and basket in hot, soapy water, then clean them with a soft, non-abrasive pad or sponge.
- Do not put appliance parts in the dishwasher. Avoid metal utensils and abrasive cleaners, which can damage the non-stick coating.
If you see white smoke
The manual associates white smoke with greasy food or residue in the pan. Clean away residue, and reduce the temperature when cooking greasy food.

The LAF500 offers a useful range of presets and manual temperature control, but the public independent-review information is not detailed enough to verify its performance on specific dishes.
