Its key distinction from the METASPEED SKY TOKYO is the midsole and carbon-plate setup ASICS uses to target different running styles. Fit, toe room, preferred ride and local price matter just as much when choosing between them.
What is the METASPEED EDGE TOKYO?
The EDGE TOKYO, model 1013A163, is a carbon-plated racing shoe in ASICS’s 2025 METASPEED line. ASICS calls it a “pinnacle racing product” for cadence-style runners “who are looking to start fast and finish faster.” That is the manufacturer’s intended use, not a promise that every runner who increases cadence will prefer this shoe.

ASICS says the EDGE TOKYO uses ASICSGRIP outsole rubber. The design is meant to work alongside the shoe’s midsole and plate configuration; the name alone does not tell you how the shoe will feel under your own stride.
EDGE TOKYO vs SKY TOKYO: which design fits your running style?
ASICS differentiates the two shoes through midsole thickness and material placement, forefoot curvature, and the shape and position of the carbon plate. The EDGE is positioned for cadence-style runners; the SKY is the other model in the line, designed around a different running style. These are design intentions, not a fit test or a rule that determines which shoe is faster for you.

| Design distinction | Midsole configuration, forefoot curvature and carbon-plate shape and position are part of the cadence-oriented setup | Uses a different midsole and plate configuration; exact comparative dimensions are not stated in the cited material |
| Fit and toe room | One Tom’s Guide reviewer reported a secure fit and a tighter toe area than some cushioned shoes | That reviewer preferred the SKY TOKYO in their comparison; this does not establish that the SKY fits every runner better |

If possible, compare both models in person or order from a retailer with a clear return policy. Pay attention to how each shoe holds your foot and how much room you have at the toes, then consider which ride feels more natural at the pace you plan to race. The cadence-versus-stride distinction can guide a try-on, but should not replace it.
What changes from the EDGE PARIS?
ASICS Japan says the EDGE TOKYO is about 15 g lighter than the EDGE PARIS and has about 21.4% greater energy return. The weight comparison is specified for a 27.0 cm shoe. These are ASICS product-performance claims, not independently established measurements or a guarantee of a particular result for a runner.

How does the fit and ride feel?
In a Tom’s Guide review published October 13, 2025, the reviewer said the EDGE TOKYO felt secure but had a tighter toe area than some cushioned running shoes. After running 60 miles in the shoe, that reviewer preferred the SKY TOKYO in their direct comparison, while still describing the EDGE as a strong racing option. Those are one runner’s reported impressions; they do not establish a universal fit or ride preference.

RunRepeat’s 2025 lab review search result notes ASICSGRIP retention and greater lateral forefoot rubber coverage on the EDGE than on the SKY. That is a reviewer/lab observation, not a substitute for evaluating fit or a basis for broader durability claims.

Who should consider the EDGE TOKYO?
- Try it if: you are considering a racing shoe that ASICS specifically designs for cadence-style runners, and you can confirm that its fit and ride work for you.
- Compare it with the SKY TOKYO if: you are unsure which design target better matches your running or you have access to both models for a side-by-side try-on.
- Be cautious about choosing by label alone if: toe room is a priority, since one reviewer found the EDGE’s toe area tighter than that of some cushioned shoes.
The most defensible choice comes from combining intended running style with an actual fit check. ASICS’s categories explain why the models differ; your comfort and preference decide whether that difference helps you.
