The Art & Science Somerset is a pocket-spring mattress sold in four comfort levels, from extra firm to extra comfort. Bedbuyer rates it 4.3/5 and describes its construction, while CHOICE lists measurements for one specific configuration. Those are published product details and third-party assessments—not a hands-on test by this publication. The best fit depends on the firmness you prefer, the size and configuration you need, and the retailer’s current terms.
What kind of mattress is the Somerset?
The Art & Science Somerset is a spring mattress. CHOICE describes the listed configuration as having a pocket-spring core. Bedbuyer’s review describes a layered design that includes a 7-zone pocket spring system, CharCool latex, EcoFlex plant-based foam and a WoolCloud quilt. Those construction details are reported by Bedbuyer; check the current manufacturer or retailer specification for the exact configuration you are considering.

CHOICE records 16 layers and 261 springs per square metre for its listed product configuration. It reports a thickness of 34 cm and a weight of 37 kg. For the double size in that listing, the stated dimensions are 191.5 × 138.5 × 34 cm. These figures apply to the configuration CHOICE lists; they should not be assumed to describe every size or comfort option.
Which firmness option should you choose?
Bedbuyer describes four choices and assigns each a firmness score. The scores are Bedbuyer’s assessment, not a standardized scale, and may not match how the mattress feels to you.
#1 Best Overall

- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
| Comfort option | Bedbuyer score | How to read it |
|---|---|---|
| Extra firm | 9/10 | At the firmest end of Bedbuyer’s range |
| Firm | 7.5/10 | Firmer than the review’s balanced option |
| Balanced comfort | 5/10 | Mid-range on Bedbuyer’s scale |
| Extra comfort | 3/10 | At the softest end of Bedbuyer’s range |
Bedbuyer suggests softer options may suit side sleepers and firmer options may appeal to people who want a firmer surface. Treat that as general guidance, not a guarantee: comfort depends on the individual, and a sleep position alone cannot establish which option will feel supportive.
What do the published reviews say?
Bedbuyer gives the Somerset an overall rating of 4.3/5 and describes its comfort range and layered spring construction. Its review was last updated August 20, 2026. That rating reflects Bedbuyer’s assessment; it is not a standardized performance measure or evidence that every sleeper will have the same experience.

How to decide whether it suits you
- Start with firmness: Choose the option that best matches your established preference, but do not treat Bedbuyer’s scores as a universal scale.
- Confirm the exact configuration: Check the selected size and comfort level against current product specifications. CHOICE’s dimensions and construction figures refer to its listed configuration, not every variant.
- Compare retailer terms: Review the live price for your chosen size and comfort level, and read the conditions attached to the stated warranty and sleep promise.
- Consider how you can assess it: If possible, try the mattress or establish how the retailer’s sleep-promise process works before relying on it as a way to change your choice.
Verdict
The Somerset is worth considering if you want a spring mattress with four selectable comfort levels and can verify that the chosen configuration and retailer terms meet your needs. The strongest evidence here is a third-party review and product listings, not an independent hands-on test. Choose by your own firmness preference, and verify dimensions, current availability, price and offer conditions before purchase.
