The Akko 5098B Wasteland Survival is a compact wireless mechanical keyboard with an 1800 layout, a retained numpad, distinctive themed keycaps, and a small screen paired with a useful volume roller. Notebookcheck’s hands-on review found plenty to like in its feel and controls, but also reported rough stock switches and stabilizers, a case that is difficult to modify, and less 2.4 GHz battery life than the 8,000mAh capacity alone might suggest. The Fallout-like look is a visual resemblance, not evidence of an official license.
What the Akko 5098B offers
The 5098B uses an 1800 compact layout: it keeps a number pad while taking up less horizontal space than a full-size keyboard. Akko’s product page lists USB-C wired, 2.4 GHz wireless, and Bluetooth 5.0 connections. The cited page gives approximate dimensions of 409 × 138.4 × 32.3 mm and identifies an ABS frame, PBT keycaps, a TFT screen, and an aluminum-alloy diagonal panel. Notebookcheck’s review unit was an ANSI US model measuring 409 × 138.4 mm and weighing 1,011 g.

Akko lists south-facing RGB, a gasket mount, an 8,000mAh battery, and hot-swap sockets that accept 3-pin and 5-pin switches. Its specification page states a 1,000 Hz polling rate over wired and 2.4 GHz connections and 125 Hz over Bluetooth. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent performance measurements. See Akko’s 5098B product page for its listed specifications and options.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesThe screen and roller do useful work
The 1.47-inch screen is more than a decorative accent: Akko describes multimedia functions and user-uploaded GIF support through Akko Cloud Driver. Notebookcheck reviewer Julian van der Merwe found the display and horizontally mounted roller useful in practice, particularly as quick-access controls. The screen and RGB are also part of the board’s distinctive look, so turning them down to conserve power means giving up some of its character.
#1 Best Overall

Wasteland Survival’s keycaps
The reviewed Wasteland Survival edition has Cherry-profile, dye-sublimated PBT keycaps with a high-contrast, post-apocalyptic visual treatment and cat-themed details. Notebookcheck praised the crisp printing. The reviewer also found the included transparent caps visually chaotic, so the extras may not suit every setup.
How it feels and sounds to type on
Notebookcheck described a cushioned gasket feel and a thocky sound, and praised the keycap printing and connection choices. Its review unit used Akko V3 Piano Pro linear switches on a PP plate with a silicone gasket mount. Those are observations of that particular configuration, not a guarantee that every 5098B colorway or switch option will feel identical.

- A SOLID WOOD KEYBOARD – The Akko MU01 mountain seclusion theme wireless keyboard, encased in smooth, polished solid wood, evokes the serenity of nature with every keystroke. The keyboard comes with a warm-tone walnut wooden case and MOA profile PBT dye-sub keycaps. In addition, Akko MU01 offers a wood wax to help the wooden case stay healthy for longer.
- WIRELESS & MULTI-DEVICE – Akko MU01 walnut wooden gaming keyboard is capable of switching between 2.4Ghz, BT 5.0 and USB-C wired connection mode for multi-device users. It is aimed for maintaining consistent and stable connectivity with a large 4000mAh battery.
- PBT DYE-SUB KEYS & HOT-SWAPPABLE – Dye-Sub PBT keycaps are extremely sturdy and resistant to wear even for decades, and the legends wouldn’t fade away or get oily easily compared to conventional ABS keycaps. Hot-swappable keyboards allow users to easily change mechanical switches in case one key is malfunctional.
- PROGRAMMABLE & RGB BACKLIT – All keys definitions, RGB profiles (per-key supported) and animation effects can be re-mapped and customized by Akko Cloud Driver. The keyboard also has over 12 pre-defined media hotkeys (such as volume control, calculator and mute) to improve efficiency.
- MAC & WIN – Akko MU01 Mountain Seclusion PC keyboard supports both Windows and Mac systems with an easy switch by the switch located under the CAPS key.
The same review found the stock switches scratchy and wobbly, with unlubed stabilizers and a notably poor spacebar stabilizer. That matters if you expect a refined typing experience straight out of the box. The hot-swap sockets make replacing compatible switches possible, but they do not address the stabilizers or make the case itself easy to open.
What makes it hard to customize
Although the switches are hot-swappable, the case is a more serious obstacle to modification. Notebookcheck reports that the plastic case is held together by firm clips rather than screws, making disassembly difficult. That limits how straightforward it is to reach components for deeper work, such as addressing stabilizers or changing the board’s internals.

- Aluminum Case: Air 01 keyboard with Aluminum Case delivers a metallic touch and robust structural integrity. Its modern, minimalist design is crafted to perfectly integrate with any Mac or clean desktop setup
- Hot Swappable Keyboard: Hot-swappable switches let you easily change switches without soldering, making it simple to try different options and fine-tune your typing feel. Note: Air 01 is compatible with Kailh low-profile hot-swappable switches only
- Programmable RGB: Air 01 Mechanical Keyboard is equipped with vibrant RGB, which can be customized through the Akko Cloud Driver, adding a striking glow to your setup
Configuration software is another qualification. Notebookcheck says Akko’s proprietary driver is Windows-only and less convenient for macro and layout customization on macOS or Linux. Akko lists broader operating-system compatibility for the keyboard itself; basic typing compatibility should not be confused with full support for configuration software.
How long does the wireless battery last?
Akko lists an 8,000mAh battery, but capacity is not the same as a promised runtime. In day-to-day use, Notebookcheck’s reviewer said the unit scarcely lasted more than four eight-hour workdays on 2.4 GHz. This is one reviewer’s experience, not a controlled battery test or a universal estimate; brightness, screen use, connection mode, and usage patterns can affect results.

- Bigger is Better: Akko 3108 Prunus Lannesiana keyboard is inspired by misty cherry blossoms, its pure white backdrop is adorned with light and dark pink keycaps. With 108 keys including a numeric pad and function buttons, it’s built for gamers, typists, programmers, and office pros—ready for any task, in any scene
- Cherry Profile & PBT Double-Shot Keycaps: Akko's cherry profile keycaps are designed to bring maximum comfort, keeping hands in a natural position to minimize fatigue during long sessions and help reduce typos. Made from durable PBT double-shot material, they resist shine from oils and sweat, maintaining their texture and appearance over time
- Elevate Your Typing Experience: A smooth linear experience in a refreshing pastel aesthetic. Akko Frost Pink switch operates with a gentle 45gf press and a 50gf bottom-out, offering consistent responsiveness through a 3.6mm total travel
- Customizable& NKRO - All keys can be re-mapped to enable action sequences (for gaming). What's more, with N-key rollover (NKRO) feature, the keyboard supports simultaneous key presses without conflicts, which is particularly important in optimizing gaming experiences
The reviewer suggested dimming the RGB or disabling the screen to extend runtime. Those are practical trade-offs, but they reduce the visibility of two signature features. The available evidence does not establish a precise runtime under other settings or Bluetooth use.
Availability and price depend on the version
Akko’s cited EU product page lists US-ANSI and ISO-DE layouts, while Akko Germany’s product page includes Wasteland Survival among the theme and layout range. Check the exact layout and colorway before ordering: availability can differ by region and seller. The Wasteland Survival design should not be mistaken for an officially licensed Fallout product.

Notebookcheck reported Amazon prices of $109.99–$118.99 for the 5098B, depending on colorway, in its review published September 11, 2026 and updated September 14, 2026. At that time, it said Wasteland Survival did not appear on Amazon. Those are dated observations, not a current price or stock guarantee; check live listings for the specific variant you want. See Akko Germany’s 5098B page for its listed themes and layouts.
Who should consider the Akko 5098B?
- A good fit: someone who wants a numpad in a relatively compact layout, wireless connection choices, and built-in screen and roller controls.
- Especially appealing: buyers drawn to Wasteland Survival’s unusual PBT keycaps and the board’s visual personality.
- Think twice: anyone who prioritizes polished stock switches and stabilizers, easy case disassembly, or convenient configuration software on macOS or Linux.
- Check first: buyers who need a particular language layout or want Wasteland Survival specifically, since listed variants and seller stock can differ.
Overall, Notebookcheck’s review makes the 5098B look most compelling as a characterful feature-rich board, rather than a simple platform for extensive modding. Its screen, roller, layout, and presentation earned praise; its stock tuning and case construction are the clearest compromises.
