Gizmodo reported on October 8, 2026, that Amazon was offering the 2024 Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition (32GB) for $170, $80 below its stated $250 normal price. The report described the offer as limited-time, but it does not confirm that the deal is still available on October 9. Check Amazon’s live listing for the current price, seller, marketplace, and availability before buying.
Which Kindle Paperwhite is the reported $170 deal?
The reported offer is for the 2024 Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition with 32GB, not the newly announced 2026 generation. Gizmodo’s October 8 report gave the $170 price and characterized it as $80 off a stated $250 normal price; that dated report is not confirmation of today’s listing or price. See Gizmodo’s report, then verify the exact model and current terms on Amazon before purchasing.

Amazon’s announcement for the 2024 model lists a 7-inch display, waterproofing, and 16GB storage for the standard Paperwhite. The 2024 Signature Edition adds 32GB storage, optional wireless charging, and an auto-adjusting front light. Amazon described battery life for that generation as up to three months. How does the reported price compare with other prices?
| Price reference | What it refers to | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|
| $170; $80 below a stated $250 normal price | 2024 Paperwhite Signature Edition, 32GB; reported by Gizmodo on October 8, 2026 | Dated report of a limited-time offer; current availability is not established. Source |
| $144.99 | Paperwhite Signature Edition promotion on Amazon’s June 2026 Prime Day deal page | Earlier, separate promotion—not evidence that the October offer is live or a complete price history. Source |
| $199.99 standard; $249.99 Signature Edition | New 2026 Paperwhite generation, at announcement | Prices listed by Amazon when it announced the lineup; they are not confirmation of current live prices. Source |
The earlier $144.99 promotion shows that $170 is not the lowest sale price established by these examples. They do not establish an all-time low or a full price history, so the $80 discount alone cannot show whether this is the best value available.

How does the 2024 deal model differ from the 2026 Paperwhite?
Amazon’s 2026 announcement covers a newer Paperwhite lineup. It lists adjustable warm light, waterproofing, and up to 12 weeks of battery life for the new generation. The 2026 Signature Edition adds 32GB storage, an auto-adjusting front light, and charging-dock support. Those are manufacturer claims for the 2026 models; they should not be treated as specifications for the 2024 deal device. Amazon’s 2026 announcement
Choose based on the exact model and features you want, not just the discount label. The reported $170 offer is for the older 2024 Signature Edition. The 2026 Signature Edition is a separate product generation, and Amazon’s announced price was $249.99; check its current listing if you are comparing generations.
