Is TCL’s X11L 4K TV Worth It? What the Reviews and Specs Say

The TCL X11L is a 2026 flagship 4K TV family built around SQD-Mini LED, Google TV and very large screens. Independent viewing impressions point to strong brightness, vivid color in bright scenes and little visible blooming; however, testing does not confirm TCL’s full 100% BT.2020 color claim. At launch, US prices ranged from $6,999.99 for 75 inches to $9,999.99 for 98 inches, so the X11L makes most sense for buyers who want a premium, oversized TV and can verify the current price—not simply the biggest number on a spec sheet.

What is the TCL X11L?

TCL introduced the X11L Series at CES on January 5, 2026, as its premium SQD-Mini LED 4K TV family. The US lineup comprises 75-, 85- and 98-inch models. TCL combines a Mini LED backlight and local dimming with its Super Quantum Dot color system; Google TV supplies the smart-TV interface. See TCL’s CES 2026 announcement and the US product page.

“SQD-Mini LED” is TCL’s product terminology, not a guarantee of a specific measured picture result. The practical question is how well the panel, backlight and processing perform together in real viewing—and whether that performance warrants the price.

How good is the picture in independent testing?

Tom’s Guide reviewed an 85-inch sample and reported that bright scenes retained saturated colors and blooming was barely noticeable in its viewing. Its reviewer also found the built-in audio better than typical TV audio. Those are observations on one sample in that review’s viewing conditions, not a promise that every size, room or picture mode will look identical. The review’s lab results likewise depend on its test protocol.

Color-gamut claims need particular care. TCL advertises 100% BT.2020 coverage through its Deep Color System, which combines Super Quantum Dots, a CSOT UltraColor Filter and an Advanced Color Purity Algorithm. Tom’s Guide measured 91.77% Rec. 2020 coverage on its sample. It also reported 78.02% for the Sony Bravia 9 comparison set under its methodology; those figures are review-specific results, not universal ratings for either TV.

TechRadar’s separate article is explicitly an initial measurement analysis, not a full review. Its measurements did not substantiate TCL’s 100% BT.2020 claim and found no meaningful DCI-P3 coverage or accuracy improvement over the QM9K in its tests. The Rec. 2020 and DCI-P3 figures describe different color spaces, and results can vary with measurement conditions. TechRadar also cautions that measurements alone cannot establish blooming, shadow detail, sharpness, motion handling or overall home viewing. Read the findings in context in Tom’s Guide’s X11L review and TechRadar’s initial measurements.

What do the headline brightness and dimming numbers mean?

TCL’s current product page advertises up to 20,736 local dimming zones and up to 10,000 peak nits. The CES announcement rounded the zone figure to up to 20,000 and also cited up to 10,000 peak nits. These are manufacturer-stated maxima, not independent measurements or guarantees for every screen size, picture mode or scene. TCL executive Chris Hamdorf described the set as combining OLED-like darkness with LED brightness, but that is a company claim rather than independent proof of equivalent performance.

A high zone count and peak-nit figure may help explain the design ambition, but they cannot tell you by themselves how highlights, dark details or bright objects against dark backgrounds will look in your room. The independent viewing and measurement evidence above is more useful for judging the picture, with the caveat that it covers specific samples and methods.

What does the X11L cost, and is the price current?

TCL’s January 2026 US launch MSRPs were $6,999.99 for 75 inches, $7,999.99 for 85 inches and $9,999.99 for 98 inches. They are launch MSRPs, not current quotes or prices for other markets. On October 7, 2026, TCL’s US product page displayed $2,999.99 for the 75-inch set alongside a crossed-out $5,999.99 reference price—figures that differ from the launch MSRP and may reflect a promotion or changed pricing context. Prices and stock can change; check the size-specific listing and retailer before buying.

The available pricing evidence does not establish a dependable current price for every size or retailer. Compare the exact size and model number, seller, delivery terms and return policy rather than assuming the launch MSRP or one product-page offer is the amount you will pay.

How does the X11L compare with TCL’s QM8L and QM7L?

TCL identifies the QM8L and QM7L as other SQD-Mini LED choices, but that shared technology label does not establish equivalent configurations or picture quality. TCL’s expanded SQD-Mini LED lineup announcement positions these models in the same broader technology family.

Before paying the flagship premium, compare like-sized models using current prices and independent results that use comparable conditions. Prioritize measured brightness under named test conditions, color coverage in the same color space, gaming refresh and variable-refresh-rate support, HDR formats, audio, and the screen size your room can accommodate. The available evidence does not establish that the X11L’s picture is worth a particular premium over either alternative.

Will the size fit your room and furniture?

The 75-, 85- and 98-inch choices make room dimensions and installation part of the buying decision. Tom’s Guide says the 85-inch review sample’s feet are widely spaced and require a large stand. That review lists a 600 × 400 VESA pattern for its sample; confirm the mounting pattern for your exact model before selecting a mount.

  • Measure the stand’s usable surface and confirm both feet sit securely on it.
  • For wall mounting, verify the TV’s hole pattern, the mount’s rated load, wall structure and installation instructions for the exact size.
  • Check delivery access and the intended viewing distance before committing to a 98-inch screen.

Who should consider the TCL X11L?

The X11L is most compelling for buyers seeking a large premium TV with Google TV, a 144Hz native panel specification and the potential for bright, saturated HDR scenes. Tom’s Guide’s viewing impressions are encouraging, while the differing color-gamut evidence argues against treating TCL’s 100% BT.2020 claim as a settled independent result.

If the asking price is close to that of a QM8L or QM7L, compare exact-size configurations and independent tests before choosing. If the premium is substantial, make the decision based on the X11L’s demonstrated viewing performance, your room and installation needs, and the current price—not advertised maximums alone. The cited sources do not establish long-term reliability, warranty service outcomes or worldwide pricing.
