Is Star Wars: Galactic Racer Worth Playing? A Review of Its Racing and Campaign

Star Wars: Galactic Racer is an arcade racer first and a Star Wars story second. Its run-based campaign, varied repulsorcraft and online races give the racing loop plenty to build on, but reviews point to repetitive activities and a weaker story payoff. Whether it clicks depends on how much you want from the races themselves.

What kind of game is Star Wars: Galactic Racer?

Star Wars: Galactic Racer launched worldwide on October 6, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, according to StarWars.com. Set in the Outer Rim after the Empire’s fall, it centers on the Galactic League, an unsanctioned racing circuit. The player follows Shade, a racer seeking revenge and glory.

The premise gives the game a recognizable Star Wars backdrop, but its main appeal is vehicle racing rather than a sprawling narrative. An official announcement highlights a Jakku track set among a crashed Star Destroyer and AT-AT, linking the setting to The Force Awakens.

How do the races and vehicles work?

The game features four craft classes: landspeeders, speeder bikes, skim speeders and podracers. Steam describes distinct physics and playstyles for the vehicles, with racing built around risk and reward and the ability to take down rivals. That range gives the game a stronger identity than a single-vehicle racing format, though the available descriptions do not establish how each class performs in direct comparison.

#1 Best Overall
Star Wars Galactic Racer - PlayStation 5
  • COMPETE IN HIGH-STAKES RACES - Slam, shunt, and takedown rivals across varied circuits as you pilot land speeders, speeder bikes, skim speeders, and pod racers. The greater the risk, the greater the reward.
  • SURVIVE A DANGEROUS UNDERGROUND SPORT - Join The Galactic League - an unsanctioned racing circuit born in the lawless Outer Rim. Become Shade, a lone racer chasing revenge and glory.
  • BUILD AND CUSTOMIZE YOUR CRAFT - Pilot different classes of repulsorcraft each with distinct physics and playstyles. Build a ride that showcases your style and gives you a competitive edge.
  • BATTLE RIVALS IN MULTIPLE GAME MODES - Ride solo through a story-driven campaign of shifting alliances or brave strategic PvP grudge matches where reputation rides with you.
  • CLIMB THE RANKS AND EARN REWARDS - Prove yourself through intense rivalries and escalating challenges. Every choice shapes your prospects as you build your status in The Galactic League.

Customization is part of progression as well as presentation: Steam says players can build and customize craft for style and competitive advantage. The game lists solo play, online PvP and cross-platform multiplayer. These features position it as both a campaign racer and a game to revisit for online competition.

Does the campaign stay engaging?

TechRadar describes progression through qualifiers and a Galactic Tour, with players choosing branching routes rather than receiving a randomly selected track sequence. The review identifies standard races, Field Tests, Mystery Encounters and Eliminator events. Its assessment is that the run-based structure makes the campaign replayable and keeps the racing loop energetic, but repeated Field Tests become less challenging and feel repetitive over time. These are the reviewer’s judgments, not a guarantee that every player will experience the events the same way.

PC Gamer’s review likewise sees value in the Star Wars setting and racing atmosphere, particularly the engine sounds and music that arrives on the final lap. It criticizes the story’s weak payoff and dialogue that repeats. Taken together, the reviews suggest that players most invested in the races may get more from the campaign than those expecting a substantial story arc.

What do the reviews and player ratings say?

The critical picture is positive about the racing loop, but less enthusiastic about the campaign’s repetition and narrative. TechRadar praises replayability while flagging Field Tests; PC Gamer praises the sound and atmosphere while faulting the story payoff and repeated dialogue. Neither review alone establishes a universal verdict, and the two reviews should not be treated as a broad consensus.
