No—not with every Star Citizen purchase. Star Citizen and Squadron 42 are separate entitlements for most newer purchases. Some older pledges include both, and qualifying buyers may see a Squadron 42 add-on during checkout. Check the exact contents of your pledge in My Hangar before buying; Squadron 42 remains in development and is not currently available to download.
Does a Star Citizen package include Squadron 42?
Not automatically. A Star Citizen Game Package grants access to Star Citizen and includes a ship; Squadron 42 is separate unless the pledge explicitly lists it. RSI’s Pledges FAQ distinguishes the game package from a standalone Squadron 42 pledge.

The separation dates to February 14, 2016. RSI said purchases made after that date would be split into the persistent-universe game and the single-player campaign. Some earlier backer pledges and Squadron 42 packages may include both. The date is useful context, but the specific contents of your pledge—not its name or purchase date alone—are what to verify. How to check whether your pledge includes Squadron 42
- Sign in to your RSI account and open My Hangar.
- Find the relevant pledge and expand its item details. RSI says multi-item pledges can be expanded to show what they contain.
- Look for Squadron 42 as an included item or entitlement. If it is not listed, do not assume the package includes it.
RSI also says ships cannot be split off from a game or ship package, so you should not expect to rearrange a pledge’s contents. The Pledges FAQ explains how to inspect pledge contents.

Ways to buy Squadron 42
Standalone pledge
RSI lists Squadron 42 as a separate pledge option when it is offered in the store. Availability and the current price should be checked on the live RSI store; the official sources cited here do not establish a current price.
Checkout add-on with a qualifying game package
A discounted Squadron 42 add-on may be offered during checkout when buying a qualifying Star Citizen Game Package. It must be selected before completing the order. RSI says this offer does not appear with standalone ship pledges or if the account has already purchased Squadron 42, and it cannot be added retroactively through that checkout offer. How much does Squadron 42 cost?
Check the live RSI store listing and the final checkout total for the current price. RSI’s February 2016 announcement listed $45 for either standalone module and a $15 add-on, but explicitly warned those prices were not final and could change. They are historical figures, not reliable current prices.

Can you download or play Squadron 42 now?
No. RSI’s support article, updated February 4, 2026, says Squadron 42 is in development and not available for download. RSI says owners of a pledge containing Squadron 42 will be able to download it after development is complete, the game has been tested, and it is released. - Confirm that the offer is a Star Citizen Game Package if you want Star Citizen access; a standalone ship pledge is not the same thing.
- Check whether Squadron 42 is explicitly included or offered as a checkout add-on.
- Compare the final regional checkout total rather than relying on old price references.
- For an existing account, inspect the pledge in My Hangar before purchasing another copy.
RSI’s launcher installation guidance describes the Star Citizen Game Package requirement and notes the exception for the Squadron 42 standalone pledge. A pledge containing Squadron 42 does not make the campaign downloadable before release.
