Is Sportzino Legal in Texas? What Its Terms and Texas Law Say

Sportzino’s current terms do not name Texas among the excluded states, but that alone does not settle whether its sweepstakes casino model complies with Texas law. The terms address where the platform says people may participate; Texas law separately governs gambling and sweepstakes. The sources available do not establish a Texas-specific legal ruling on Sportzino’s current model.

Does Sportzino currently accept players in Texas?

Sportzino’s Terms & Conditions define an “Excluded Territory” to include Washington, Idaho, Georgia, and Michigan. Texas is not named in that list. This indicates that Texas is not specifically barred by the exclusions listed on the terms page retrieved for this article; it is not a government authorization or a guarantee that a particular account or activity is eligible.

The terms require users to be in a permitted territory, make users responsible for determining whether participation is legal where they are, and prohibit attempts to access the service from excluded territories using a VPN. Check the current Sportzino Terms & Conditions and account rules before participating, since the operator can update them.

Does that mean Sportzino is legal under Texas law?

No definitive conclusion follows from the state list. Platform eligibility and legal treatment are different questions: a company’s decision not to list Texas as excluded does not decide how Texas law applies to the games, virtual coins, entry methods, or prizes.

Texas Penal Code Chapter 47 defines a “bet” as “an agreement to win or lose something of value solely or partially by chance.” The chapter also identifies prohibited forms of gambling and provides a private-place defense with multiple conditions. That defense should not be read as a broad authorization for online casino services. See Texas Penal Code Chapter 47.

How Sportzino describes its coins and sweepstakes play

Sportzino describes Gold Coins as currency for standard social gameplay. It describes Sweeps Coins as tied to sweepstakes-style play on eligible accounts; those coins may be redeemable for prizes where available, subject to eligibility and the platform’s redemption requirements. These are descriptions of the operator’s model, not a legal determination. See Sportzino’s social casino explanation.

That distinction matters because the legal analysis can depend on the actual mechanics: what a player gives or risks, how chance affects outcomes, and whether something of value can be won or lost. The coin labels alone do not resolve those questions.

Texas treats gambling and sweepstakes promotions separately

Gambling provisions

Chapter 47 makes chance and something of value central to its definition of a bet. Applying that law to a particular platform requires examining how its games and prize system operate, not just whether it calls itself a social casino or sweepstakes promotion.

Sweepstakes requirements

Texas Business & Commerce Code Chapter 622 separately defines sweepstakes as contests awarding prizes based on chance or random selection and prohibits specified purchase-linked entry arrangements. It requires, among other conditions, that a purchase not be required to enter. A no-purchase-necessary route is relevant to sweepstakes compliance, but it does not by itself answer every question under gambling law about a platform’s mechanics. See Texas Business & Commerce Code Chapter 622.

What the 2026 Texas Attorney General opinion does—and does not—say

In Opinion KP-0520, issued June 10, 2026, the Texas Attorney General said an amusement machine is a gambling device under Chapter 47 if chance plays any role in deciding whether the player receives something of value, regardless of skill. The opinion concerns amusement machines; it is relevant context for the importance of chance, but it is not a ruling on Sportzino. Read the Texas Attorney General Opinion KP-0520.

What official Texas guidance says about uncertainty

The Texas State Law Library says gambling is generally illegal in Texas, notes exceptions such as the state lottery and charitable bingo, and cautions: “As librarians, we cannot determine whether a specific gambling practice is legal or illegal.” Its overview is useful background, not a Sportzino-specific decision. See the Texas State Law Library’s gambling FAQ.

The Texas Attorney General’s general guidance describes narrow exceptions for certain private poker or casino activity, subject to conditions including no public access and redistribution of all stakes and winnings to participants. That guidance likewise does not determine whether Sportzino’s model qualifies. See the Texas Attorney General’s guidance on charitable raffles and casino/poker nights.

What a Texas reader should take from this

  • Eligibility: Texas is not among the four states named as excluded in the retrieved Sportzino terms. Check the live terms and account rules for current eligibility.
  • Legality: The exclusion list does not establish that Texas has approved the service or that every form of participation complies with state law.
  • Unresolved point: The sources reviewed do not identify a Texas court judgment, enforcement action, or agency determination specifically resolving Sportzino’s current model.
