It is worth considering if you want an arcade racer built around changing routes, vehicle customization and crossover characters—but the 15 CrossWorlds are not 15 extra full-length tracks, DLC costs extra, and one major review reported online reliability and item-balance problems. The base game’s appeal depends on whether its changing race layouts sound fun to you; you do not need the Season Pass just to judge the main track selection.
What do you actually get in the base game?
Nintendo’s product listing describes Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds as having 24 tracks and 15 CrossWorlds. The distinction matters: a race starts on one track, passes through a Travel Ring after the first lap to a different CrossWorld for the middle lap, then returns to the original track for the final lap. The CrossWorlds therefore change a race’s route; they should not be counted as 15 additional complete Grand Prix circuits. Nintendo’s product listing gives the official counts and mechanic.

That structure offers variety within a race rather than simply a long list of standalone courses. PC Gamer’s January 16, 2026 review praised the scope for track experimentation, but said some CrossWorld sections felt less experimental than hoped and were not available as full standalone races. The same review found that the route-change novelty could fade over time. If your priority is a large roster of complete circuits to learn individually, that is a meaningful qualification; if you enjoy a race changing scenery and route mid-event, the mechanic is more likely to be a draw. PC Gamer’s review details that assessment.

The DLC is optional and separately sold from the base game. Nintendo’s US store lists a regular Season Pass price of $29.99 and regular prices of $5.99 for several individual packs. These are US storefront prices, not a guarantee of what you will pay in another region or during a sale. Check your platform’s local listing before comparing totals. Nintendo’s store listing shows its current product and DLC information; SEGA’s purchase guide says collaboration DLC and the Season Pass are also available separately.

Choose based on the franchises and content you actually want, rather than assuming the bundle is automatically better value. If one collaboration is the main attraction, compare that individual pack’s price in your store with the pass. If you mostly want the core track selection, assess the base game without adding DLC to the cost. Nintendo’s listing includes a Content Pack 6 release date of December 31, 2026, but does not specify its contents, so do not count on any particular characters, vehicle or track from it.

SEGA’s October 8, 2026 update notice says the latest game version is required to access online modes such as World Match and DLC. Update the game before troubleshooting missing online or add-on access. Separately, PC Gamer reported online matches disconnecting in its review; that is a review-era experience, not proof that every current session will fail, but it is a reason to be cautious if reliable online competition is your main reason to buy. SEGA’s October 8 update notice states the version requirement.

- Good fit: You want a Sonic-focused arcade racer, like routes that change during a race, enjoy vehicle customization, or are excited by the crossover franchises.
- Think twice: You chiefly want every course to be a complete standalone circuit, expect consistently reliable online matches, or do not want to pay separately for optional collaborations.
- Check before checkout: Compare the live base-game and DLC prices in your own platform’s store. Prices and availability vary by region and can change with sales; the listed US prices are not a current-price promise for every buyer.
PC Gamer’s January 2026 review also praised the depth of vehicle customization while criticizing item balance. Those are useful trade-offs to weigh alongside the course format, particularly if competitive fairness matters more to you than experimentation. Read the review’s full assessment.
