Silent Hill: Townfall is worth buying if you want atmospheric first-person horror built around exploration, stealth, and substantial puzzles. It is a less certain fit if you want frequent, satisfying combat, a wide range of memorable monsters, or puzzles that are unlikely to leave you stuck. The game launched on September 24, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Steam, and the Epic Games Store.
What kind of game is Silent Hill: Townfall?
Townfall is a full-length psychological horror game from KONAMI and Screen Burn Interactive. You play Simon Ordell, who arrives at St. Amelia, a remote island off the coast of Scotland. The game is presented entirely in first person, a first for a full-length Silent Hill title, according to KONAMI.

Its central tool is the CRTV, a handheld pocket television. Simon raises it while exploring: it can reveal nearby threats through the environment, pick up signals that add story information, and provide guidance through some challenges. The game mixes environmental puzzle-solving and evasion with stealth; fighting is possible, but the official description presents it as one option rather than the main attraction. In PlayStation Blog commentary, writer-director Jon McKellan described the CRTV as both a way to locate nearby threats and a receiver for signals that reveal more of the story.

Who is Townfall worth buying for?
It is a stronger fit if you enjoy atmosphere, exploration, and puzzles
Townfall’s clearest strengths, according to reviews, are its foggy setting, Scottish village art direction, story-driven exploration, and creative use of the CRTV. PC Gamer reviewer Elie Gould praised its setting, story, and puzzles, and scored it 89/100. TechRadar reviewer Lewis Maddison also highlighted the stealth and puzzles. Those are individual critics’ assessments, not a guarantee that every player will respond the same way.
#1 Best Overall
- Experienced entirely in first person, explore, evade, and survive using a limited set of weapons and tools, including a pocket television used to tune into unstable signals. Evasion is tense; combat is frenetic, while narrative driven puzzles reveal a truth that refuses to stay submerged.
- SILENT HILL: Townfall is a full-length, self-contained psychological horror set against the cold, isolated backdrop of Scotland, 1996
Choose it if you are happy to investigate a place carefully, manage threats by hiding or avoiding them, and work through clues rather than expect a constant stream of combat. The CRTV’s role in both navigation and threat awareness gives the game a distinctive exploration loop.
Be more cautious if combat or creature variety is your priority
Reviews identify less consistent results in combat, enemy design, and pacing. TechRadar criticized the enemy designs and said some sections drag. Townfall may still appeal to horror players who enjoy vulnerability and evasion, but the available reviews do not make a strong case for buying it primarily as an action-heavy game or for a broad roster of striking monsters.

- Simon Ordell is called back to the island of St. Amelia to ‘put things right’, encountering a town lying quiet beneath a heavy fog, seemingly abandoned but not at rest
- Venturing deeper, and driven to understand his connection to the place and its inhabitants, Simon begins to discover fragments of a past rising to the surface
- Experienced entirely in first person, Simon must explore, evade, and survive using a limited set of weapons and tools, including the CRTV, a pocket television used to tune into unstable signals. Evasion is tense; combat is frenetic, while narrative driven puzzles reveal a truth that refuses to stay submerged
Consider your tolerance for difficult puzzles and a less surprising story
Puzzle difficulty is a real buyer consideration, though reviewers’ experiences differ. TechRadar describes the puzzles as demanding. Gould at PC Gamer says the lateral-thinking puzzles took some adjustment and also notes a difficult late puzzle. EL PAÍS reviewer Jorge Morla found most puzzles hard but solvable, while saying he could not solve the final puzzle in his own playthrough without help. Treat that as a risk, not a prediction that every player will get stuck. If you prefer puzzles with reliable hints or a story that consistently surprises, watch more gameplay before buying.
How long is Silent Hill: Townfall?
TechRadar reviewer Lewis Maddison reported spending just over 20 hours on one playthrough at a gentle pace on Normal difficulty. That is one reviewer’s experience, not a guaranteed completion time; your pace, exploration, and time spent on puzzles can change it.
Rank #3
- Day One Edition Bonus: CRTV Style: Rusted, CRTV Style: Beach Edition
- When Simon Ordell is called back to the island of St. Amelia to "put things in order", he meets a city lying quietly in dense fog, seemingly abandoned, yet anything but dormant
- After venturing further to understand his connection to this place and its inhabitants, he gradually discovers fragments of the past rising to the surface
- Simon must explore, evade and survive from a first-person perspective. It uses a limited arsenal of weapons and tools, including the CRTV: a portable TV to receive unstable signals
- The dodging is tension, the battles are hectic and the story-based puzzles reveal a truth that does not want to remain hidden
How hard are the puzzles, and what difficulty options are available?
TechRadar reports three enemy difficulty settings: Story, Normal, and Nightmare. Puzzle difficulty is a separate setting with two options; the distinction is whether salient text clues receive red highlights. Lowering enemy difficulty therefore does not, by itself, mean the puzzles will be easier. The reviews above describe a demanding puzzle experience, including a particularly difficult late-game puzzle for more than one reviewer.
What accessibility options does Townfall offer?
TechRadar reports that subtitles and closed captions can be adjusted separately. The same review says the game lacks content filters for blood and gore and visual assists for color or contrast. If those specific options matter to you, check current platform and game settings information before purchasing; the cited review does not establish that every possible accessibility feature is absent.
