Yes, with a caveat: SHUTEN ORDER is a good fit if you enjoy a central murder mystery told through distinct, connected routes and are open to switching genres. Its Ministry of Justice route is the clearest conventional detective adventure. The other four routes use different kinds of gameplay, so the whole game is not a sustained investigation.
What kind of mystery is SHUTEN ORDER?
The story gives Rei Shimobe four days to solve the murder of the Founder of the Shuten Order, an apocalyptic religious organization. Rei is the Founder returned with lost memories; identifying and killing the murderer is part of achieving true resurrection. Five ministers are suspects, and choosing one determines which route you investigate.

The routes change both the story and the game system. You can pursue them separately, but the larger structure rewards playing through all five: completing every route unlocks the final chapter. The mystery is therefore not just a single case played in one consistent detective format; it is an overarching story revealed across very different scenarios.
How much detective gameplay is there?
Ministry of Justice: the closest fit
This is the most direct match for fans of mystery-adventure games. You interview people, examine crime scenes, inspect suspicious statements and objects using the “Snapping” feature, and review evidence as you work through a family murder. GamesRadar praised this route’s murder investigation and clue-based deductions, while describing its deductions as relatively forgiving. Expect an accessible investigation rather than assuming the casework will be mechanically demanding.

- A qualified match: You mainly want investigation. The Justice route offers interviews, scene examination, statement analysis, and evidence review, but it is one part of a five-format game.
- A weaker match: You want one detective system developed in depth from beginning to end. The route changes may interrupt that kind of sustained casework.
GamesRadar found the cross-route connections most engaging when clues and the larger mystery came together. The same review also called the experience somewhat splintered, said individual routes did not develop their genres deeply, and found it difficult to recommend to newcomers. That is one critic’s assessment rather than a consensus, but it is a useful counterweight to the game’s ambitious premise.
Does the tone suit you?
Steam’s mature-content notice lists blood, graphic violence, coarse language, and drug usage. Those content warnings matter if you are choosing a mystery game for someone sensitive to those themes.

Choose SHUTEN ORDER if you want a murder mystery that branches into several adventure genres and are willing to complete multiple routes to reach the final chapter. If your priority is consistently deep detective gameplay, the Justice route is the main draw, but the rest of the game is a substantial genre departure.
