That is encouraging, but it is the team’s assessment—not proof that he is fully recovered or a prediction of how he will perform in October.
What the Dodgers have said about Ohtani’s health
In a September 30 report, the Dodgers said Ohtani had been activated after the minimum-length 15-day injured-list stay for lingering issues with his right biceps and left knee. The club said he came through his final five regular-season games feeling healthy. Those details and the assessment come from the team, not an independent medical evaluation.

General manager Brandon Gomes said, “Everything is feeling great physically,” and added that Ohtani’s swings were in a good place after his return. Manager Dave Roberts said, “I feel confident that you’re going to see the best version of Shohei of the last two months.” Roberts was expressing confidence, not guaranteeing a particular outcome.
What his return at the plate showed
Ohtani went 5-for-21 (.238) over five games after returning, with one extra-base hit, eight strikeouts and one walk, according to MLB.com. It is a small sample and offers only a narrow view of his readiness.

The full-season figures, reported by MLB.com in 2026, include games from before his injured-list stint. They provide broader performance context, but neither those numbers nor the five-game return line establishes what he will do in the postseason.
How the Dodgers planned to prepare him for the NLDS
The Dodgers planned additional hitting work during their bye week, including five to seven live at-bats and sessions with the Trajekt machine, which the team report described as simulating opposing pitchers. These were reported plans, not confirmation that every session took place or a medical clearance. In the cited reporting, Ohtani’s October role is as a hitter; it does not establish a pitching return.

Why his readiness matters to Los Angeles
The Dodgers finished the regular season with 100 wins and earned a bye into the NLDS, according to MLB.com. They entered the postseason pursuing a third consecutive World Series title. Ohtani’s health and timing at the plate are therefore a major storyline, but the team’s confidence should be kept distinct from evidence of postseason performance.
When the Dodgers’ 2026 NLDS begins
The Dodgers’ September 30 report listed Game 1 at Dodger Stadium on Saturday, with FOX, FOX Deportes and FOX One carrying the broadcast. The report does not give a calendar date in the supplied information, and schedules and coverage are time-sensitive; check the latest official schedule for the date, start time and regional availability.
