Comedians and the nonprofit Stand Up for Stand Up say SiriusXM’s replacement of Raw Comedy with Sebastian Maniscalco’s Comedy Radio has sharply reduced the number of acts getting airtime. The nonprofit’s XMPlaylist-based analysis reports a smaller pool of active acts and more plays going to the top artists. That is evidence of a change in reported airplay distribution—not proof that the channel caused a specific comedian to lose a particular amount of income.
What changed at SiriusXM?
On April 21, 2026, SiriusXM announced that Sebastian Maniscalco’s Comedy Radio would replace Raw Comedy. The company described the new station as a year-round, 24/7 stand-up destination curated and headlined by Maniscalco. Its launch announcement also named a flagship show featuring Pete Correale. The original announcement listed channel 99 for radios and app access; later references use channel 102, so check SiriusXM’s current listing rather than relying on an older dial number. Raw Comedy had been valued by advocates as a wider platform for working and emerging comedians. The replacement therefore raised two related questions: whether the new channel plays fewer comedians, and what that change means for performers who relied on airplay for discovery or royalty income.
What do the airplay figures show?
Stand Up for Stand Up, a nonprofit focused on working comedians, says its analysis uses channel-spin data provided by XMPlaylist. Its figures indicate that the number of active acts receiving plays fell from 812 in April 2026 to 275 in September, while monthly spins remained in a range of 7,800 to 9,400. The organization also reports that more than 75% of plays went to the top 50 artists. Stand Up for Stand Up’s analysis

A comparison of the top 100 acts in March and September adds detail: 25 appeared on both lists, while 75 acts from the March list did not appear in September’s top 100. These are measures of reported plays and participating acts; they do not establish that every act absent from a later list was new, unknown, or permanently removed from SiriusXM.
The nonprofit says a satellite-radio spin earns a comedian approximately $15 in royalties. That is the organization’s estimate, not a verified uniform rate or a calculation of any performer’s actual payment. Contracts, accounting records, and each comedian’s play history would be needed to establish individual earnings.

Why are comedians concerned?
Critics argue that fewer performers in rotation means fewer opportunities for listeners to encounter working comedians outside the best-known names. They also say less airplay can mean less royalty income. Those are the comedians’ stated concerns; the available figures do not independently quantify a particular performer’s loss or prove that the channel change caused a specific financial outcome.
Liz Miele told The Daily Beast, “There’s no safety net.” She described comedians using royalty income to help cover maternity leave or care for ill parents. Those examples are Miele’s account of how some performers relied on the income, not independently audited case studies. The Daily Beast’s October 6, 2026 report

Patton Oswalt also criticized the change in a video addressing Maniscalco. As quoted by The Daily Beast, Oswalt said that hundreds of comedians had been “booted off” SiriusXM and urged Maniscalco to reverse the decision. The nonprofit’s emphasis is on what it calls the “middle class of comedy”; “up-and-coming” should not be taken to mean that every affected act was new or unknown.

In a statement quoted by The Daily Beast on October 6, 2026, SiriusXM said the channel’s launch introduced “a new creative direction and a regularly evolving programming mix.” The company also said it “continues to invest in comedians more than any other audio platform to deliver a wide range of comedy offerings across our channels.”

That response explains the company’s view of the channel’s direction and its broader comedy programming. It does not directly affirm or dispute the nonprofit’s act-count figures, and it does not quantify the effect on individual comedians.

What can be concluded—and what remains unknown?
The strongest supported conclusion is that Stand Up for Stand Up’s analysis reports a substantial drop in the number of acts receiving plays between April and September 2026, alongside a concentration of plays among top performers. Comedians say that narrower rotation can reduce exposure and royalty income. SiriusXM describes the change as a new programming direction and points to its investment across its channels.
- The figures come from an advocacy organization’s analysis of data it attributes to XMPlaylist; the underlying raw dataset is not included in the cited material.
- No audited royalty statements establish how much any individual comedian gained or lost.
- The cited reporting does not include a direct public response from Maniscalco.
- Stand Up for Stand Up says it plans to update its figures after October closes, so the reported totals may not describe later months.
The dispute is therefore about both distribution and purpose: critics want a broad channel that can surface working comics, while SiriusXM says the new station has its own creative direction within a wider comedy offering.
