Does ReSkate require an EA account?
There are three separate requirements to keep distinct: what ReSkate says its offline mode needs, what EA requires for its own app and service, and what applies to a particular installation route.

So the careful answer is not “an EA account is never needed.” ReSkate claims its offline play does not use EA servers, but the documentation does not clearly specify every authentication step for every installation path. Follow the instructions for your particular setup and distinguish a Steam account used to obtain the game build from an EA Account used by EA services.

What are the safety and privacy risks?
Crash reports
According to ReSkate’s README, a crash of the launcher or game triggers an upload of a minidump and that session’s log to the project’s Backtrace account. The project says the log does not include a Steam password or login name. These are the project’s own disclosures; they are not independent verification of what the software collects or uploads.

To disable reporting, either untick Send crash reports in the launcher at Settings > Advanced, or set the environment variable RESKATE_CRASH_REPORTING=0. ReSkate README and settings instructions.
Mods and custom scripts
ReSkate supports community mods. Its README warns that mods change game data and custom scripts can run code, so install only mods from sources you trust. Treat each mod as a separate decision: the project’s general warning is not evidence that any particular mod is malicious. ReSkate README.

EA advises players not to share account credentials and warns that sharing Skate account information risks account theft and loss of content. The available sources do not settle either question for every user, feature, or jurisdiction. ReSkate describes itself as a fan project unaffiliated with or endorsed by EA or Full Circle. Its GPL-3.0 license covers ReSkate’s own code; the README says it does not grant rights to EA’s game or other skate. content. ReSkate README.

EA’s User Agreement restricts certain unauthorized third-party programs. It defines such a program as “a third-party program or file (such as an ‘add-on’, ‘mod’, ‘hack’, ‘trainer’, or ‘cheat’) that EA believes (i) enables or facilitates cheating of any type; (ii) allows users to bypass, modify or hack the game interface, environment, protections and/or experience in any way not expressly authorized by EA; or (iii) intercepts, ‘mines’, or otherwise collects information from or through the game.” This wording is from Electronic Arts’ User Agreement, last updated May 14, 2026. That contractual language does not establish that EA has classified every ReSkate feature as prohibited, that every user will be banned, or that EA has approved the project. EA’s gameplay rules also prohibit cheats and hacks. The sources do not provide an EA ruling specific to all ReSkate use cases, so anyone concerned about account enforcement should weigh that uncertainty before connecting an EA account or using mods. - Confirm you have the Steam copy of skate. that the project says is required.
- Read the current project instructions for your installation path; do not assume all setups have identical account or network steps.
- Decide whether to disable crash reporting using the launcher setting or environment variable.
- Install only mods you trust, particularly those that include custom scripts.
- Keep account credentials private and avoid cheats or hacks.
- Understand that ReSkate is unofficial and that the cited EA terms do not guarantee a particular account outcome.
