Is Rebet Legal in New York? Availability, Rules and What’s Unclear

Short answer: Rebet lists New York as available in its FAQ, but that is not the same as approval as a licensed New York real-money sportsbook. Rebet describes itself as a free-to-play social sportsbook using promotional sweepstakes currency; the sources available do not establish whether its current rules and prize redemptions comply with New York law. Rebet’s own description and availability information should therefore be read separately from New York’s rules for licensed mobile sports wagering.

Can you use Rebet in New York?

Rebet’s FAQ lists New York among the states where its service is available, while warning that promotional availability may change. That answers Rebet’s current availability question, not whether New York regulators have approved the service or ruled on its legality. Check Rebet’s current Terms of Use and Sweepstakes Rules before signing up or trying to redeem a prize.

What kind of sportsbook is Rebet?

Rebet describes its product as a free-to-play social sportsbook and says it does not offer real-money gambling. It characterizes Rebet Cash as promotional sweepstakes currency that may be redeemable for prizes under its rules. Those are Rebet’s descriptions; they do not, by themselves, establish how New York law applies to the product or its prize-redemption terms.

How New York’s licensed mobile sports betting works

New York’s regulated mobile sports wagering framework is for licensed operators. The state’s 2024 annual report describes wagers accepted by equipment at a licensed commercial casino gaming facility. For a regulated mobile sports wager, a bettor must be physically in New York when placing it, and Commission rules require approved geolocation services to keep wagering activity inside the state. New York State Gaming Commission, 2024 Annual Report; 2023 Mobile Sports Wagering Impact Report.

The scale of that licensed market does not establish Rebet’s status. The Commission’s 2025 annual report says licensed mobile operators handled more than $22.8 billion in wagers in calendar year 2024 and generated more than $1.05 billion in state tax revenue that year. These figures concern the licensed mobile sports wagering market, not Rebet.

What is known—and not known—about Rebet’s legal status

The available sources establish Rebet’s own product description and its FAQ’s New York availability listing, as well as New York’s framework for licensed mobile wagering. They do not establish a New York regulator ruling or an authoritative legal opinion on whether Rebet’s current sweepstakes rules and prize redemptions comply with state law. It would be inaccurate to call Rebet a New York-approved real-money sportsbook; it would also go beyond these sources to declare its sweepstakes model unlawful.

  • Product and currency: Determine whether the service offers licensed real-money wagers or promotional sweepstakes play, what each form of currency can be used for, and whether and how prizes may be redeemed.
  • Eligibility: Read the current terms for state availability and age requirements; Rebet cautions that promotional availability can change.
  • Location: For regulated New York mobile wagers, you must be physically in the state, with approved geolocation controls in place.
  • Operator status: For a conventional sportsbook, verify the operator’s current New York license and current terms rather than relying on an old list or an advertisement.
  • Promotions and endorsements: Read conditions carefully. New York regulates sports-wagering advertising and affiliate marketing: relevant affiliate relationships must be disclosed, and misleading statements about odds, conditions, or risk are prohibited. Bottom line

Rebet says New York users can access its promotional, free-to-play service, subject to changing availability. That is not proof of state approval as a licensed real-money sportsbook, and the sources here do not resolve whether its current sweepstakes and redemption rules comply with New York law. Treat availability and legal status as separate questions, and consult current terms and authoritative state guidance if you need a definitive legal answer.
