RAA Annual Multi-Trip Travel Insurance can suit Australian travellers taking several eligible trips in a 12-month period, but it is not a blanket annual policy: you choose a maximum of 30, 45 or 60 days per trip, declare destinations and meet eligibility rules. It covers eligible international travel and Australian trips more than 250 km from home, but it does not cover medical, hospital, dental or evacuation expenses for the Australian part of an annual multi-trip. Whether it fits depends on your itinerary, age, medical conditions and need for cruise or ski cover.
How many trips can you take, and how long can each one last?
The current policy allows an unlimited number of eligible trips during the 12-month period, subject to the maximum trip duration selected: 30, 45 or 60 days per trip, or the limit shown on your Certificate of Insurance. “Unlimited trips” therefore does not mean unlimited time away on any one trip. The FAQ says the sums insured reinstate after each completed trip; policy terms and exclusions still apply. RAA’s Annual Multi-Trip information and the applicable policy wording explain the plan.

Before buying, compare your travel pattern with the longest trip you expect to take. A trip that exceeds your selected duration cap may not be covered for the whole time away. Read the wording that applied when you purchased the policy: RAA’s document index advises using the policy version effective at purchase. The current combined Product Disclosure Statement and Financial Services Guide is effective 31 March 2026.
Which trips qualify?
International travel
International trips are included subject to the policy terms and the destinations declared when you buy. Include the countries and regions you plan to visit; stopovers under 24 hours are excepted. RAA says the destination list affects the premium. If plans change after purchase, contact the insurer, because cover and premium may change.

Travel within Australia
An Australian trip must be more than 250 km from your home under the PDS wording. RAA’s FAQ describes the requirement as at least 250 km, so check the boundary against your Certificate of Insurance rather than assuming a trip exactly 250 km away qualifies. For the Australian portion of an Annual Multi-Trip trip, medical, hospital, dental and evacuation expenses are not covered.
What are the main benefit limits?
The current PDS lists the following maximums for Annual Multi-Trip cover. These are policy limits, not guaranteed claim payments: exclusions, conditions, excesses, item or section sublimits and daily limits can reduce what is payable. Some limits apply per person and others per policy.

“Unlimited” medical, dental or emergency-expense wording remains subject to the policy’s definitions, exclusions, claim requirements and time limits; it does not promise payment for every cost or circumstance. For luggage and other capped benefits, check the applicable item limits and sublimits as well as the overall maximum. The PDS also offers Annual Multi-Trip excess options of $0, $100 or $250. RAA’s FAQ describes $250 as the default; your selected excess is shown on your Certificate of Insurance.

Ocean cruises
For an international ocean cruise, select Cruise Benefits and declare all countries and regions visited when buying. River cruising is included automatically under the PDS wording. Some Australian cruises also require the cruise setting to obtain onboard medical or evacuation cover; the right option depends on the route and onboard medical facilities. Confirm the setup against the itinerary and policy documents.

Skiing and winter sports
Select the Ski and Winter Sports option for cover for an accident while participating in skiing or winter sports. The option includes additional benefit sections—such as snow-ski equipment hire, ski pack, piste closure, bad weather or avalanche, and lift pass—each with its own limits and terms.
Who is eligible, and how are medical conditions handled?
RAA’s FAQ says Annual Multi-Trip cover is available up to age 75. It describes eligibility for Australian citizens and permanent residents, as well as certain Australian visa holders, subject to conditions that include visa validity, a return ticket for international plans, a Medicare card and an Australian primary residence. Dependants may be covered at no extra cost if they meet the policy definition and do not have medical conditions requiring assessment. Check the current policy and Certificate of Insurance for your circumstances.
Some medical conditions are not automatically covered. RAA says an online medical assessment is used when a traveller seeks cover for such a condition; the outcome determines whether cover is offered and whether an additional premium applies. Do not assume an existing condition is covered just because the policy includes overseas medical expenses.
What does the policy say about COVID-19?
The PDS extends COVID-19-related cover only under named sections, including cancellation, overseas medical, emergency expenses and specified optional-benefit sections, and subject to their terms and sublimits. It excludes other claims arising from or related to pandemics or epidemics. Review the current wording for the specific claim and benefit rather than treating COVID-19 cover as comprehensive.
Is annual multi-trip cover a good fit for your travel?
It is worth considering if you expect several eligible leisure trips within a year and each stays within your chosen per-trip duration. Compare it with a single-trip policy for your actual itinerary; the annual format alone does not establish that it is cheaper or better value. The RAA PDS describes both plan types, but no market-wide price or quality comparison is established here.
- Count your planned trips and check the longest trip against the 30-, 45- or 60-day cap.
- Confirm every destination is declared, and check the Australian distance rule and lack of domestic medical, hospital, dental and evacuation cover.
- Review your age, residency and visa eligibility, and arrange assessment for any condition not automatically covered.
- Add Cruise Benefits for an international ocean cruise and the Ski and Winter Sports option if you plan to ski or take part in winter sports.
- Read the luggage item limits, excess and exclusions—not just the headline benefit maximums.
- Compare the premium and cover in an individual quote with alternatives that match the same travel pattern.
The policy is issued by Tokio Marine & Nichido Fire Insurance Co., Ltd. Tokio Marine Management (Australasia) Pty Ltd acts as managing agent and handles and settles claims on the insurer’s behalf; RAA is an authorised representative offering the product. The PDS puts the key decision plainly: “Compare Your individual requirements before You choose Your plan.”
