Short answer: the official quordle.com address redirects to Merriam-Webster Games, but the page requires JavaScript and its interactive details were not readable here. That means the current official price, account requirements, score system and streak rules cannot be confirmed from the accessible page. Independent Quordle-style sites do describe free browser play, four boards and nine shared guesses, but their modes and statistics belong to those sites—not automatically to the Merriam-Webster game.
Use the exact web address before you play. A similarly named site may offer a different version, such as unlimited practice instead of a daily puzzle, or may display counters that the official game does not use.

What is actually known about Quordle access?
The strongest verified access point is quordle.com. That address redirects to Merriam-Webster’s games destination. The rendered page states that JavaScript is required to run the application, so static page text does not expose a price, registration flow, game rules, statistics panel or streak policy.
Consequently, it would be inaccurate to promise that the current official game is free, paid, account-free or ad-supported. Open the live page and read the controls and any sign-in or payment language shown there. The evidence available for this article establishes the destination, not the commercial terms.

Other domains use the Quordle name independently. Their descriptions are useful for understanding common formats, but they are not proof of how Merriam-Webster’s implementation behaves.
What the named sites show
| Destination | What its available description establishes | What it does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| quordle.com | Redirects to Merriam-Webster Games; JavaScript is required. | Current price, sign-up requirements, guess limit, modes, score storage and streak rules. |
| quordle.game | Describes free browser play with four five-letter answers, nine shared attempts, an emoji-grid share option, mobile layout and an on-screen keyboard. It says its game is unlimited and has no daily mode. | Whether any of those features appear on the official Merriam-Webster game. |
| quordle.me | Displays Daily and Practice controls and counters labelled Played, Win %, Streak and Solved. | Whether its counters use the same definitions or persistence as another Quordle site. |
| dev.quordle.com | A listing dated October 8, 2026 showed Classic, Extreme, Chill, Sequence, Rescue, Image and Weekly Challenge modes. | A complete, current catalogue for the official destination or the rules and guess allowance for every mode. |
Why “free Quordle” is not one universal answer
“Quordle” describes a game concept as well as several web implementations. A site can provide the core puzzle without charging while choosing its own mode names, advertising, accounts, statistics and limits. Another site using the same name can make different choices.
The independent descriptions demonstrate that variation. quordle.game says its version is unlimited and lacks a daily mode. quordle.me presents both Daily and Practice controls. Those statements can both be true because they refer to different sites. Neither should be presented as the official Merriam-Webster policy.
If a page asks you to create an account, enable cookies or pay for an optional feature, treat that as a rule of that particular destination. Do not infer that the same requirement applies everywhere the Quordle name appears.
How the common four-board format works
The clearest documented rule set comes from quordle.game. It presents four separate five-letter answers at the same time and gives you nine guesses shared across all four boards. One submitted word is evaluated independently against each answer.

Reading the coloured clues
- Green: the letter is correct and occupies the correct position on that board.
- Yellow: the letter occurs in that board’s answer but is in the wrong position.
- Gray: the letter is absent from that board’s answer.
Because each board has a different answer, a letter can receive different colours in the same row. A guess that is green in one panel may be yellow or gray in another. The shared attempt allowance makes information management more demanding than a single-board word game: early guesses should reveal useful letters across several panels without spending attempts on narrow, low-information words.
These four-board and nine-guess rules are documented for the independent implementation. The JavaScript-only official page did not expose enough text to confirm that its current rules match.

- Start with the address bar. Type quordle.com yourself or use a trusted bookmark. Confirm the final domain after any redirect; similarly named domains may be separate games.
- Let the application load. The official destination requires JavaScript. If scripts are blocked, you may see a message without the board or controls. Enable JavaScript for the site only if you trust the destination and your browser policy permits it.
- Identify the mode label. Look for wording such as Daily, Practice, Classic, Extreme or Weekly Challenge. A mode label is more informative than the word “Quordle” alone.
- Read the on-page terms. Check whether the page mentions a payment, account, advertising, daily limit or unlimited play. These are live-site details and can change.
- Record the site before comparing results. When you share a score or discuss a streak, include the domain and mode. A counter from one implementation cannot reliably be compared with a counter from another.
Are scores and statistics the same everywhere?
No. The labels shown by quordle.me include Played, Win %, Streak and Solved. Those labels tell you what that page displays, but they do not define a universal Quordle scoring standard.
For example, “Played” could count completed rounds or all started rounds, while “Solved” could refer to puzzles in which every board was completed. The available description does not specify the formulas, and the official Merriam-Webster page did not reveal whether it uses the same counters. Avoid treating these numbers as population statistics or as a cross-site leaderboard.
Where results may persist
The accessible material does not establish whether the official game stores results in a browser, an account, a server profile or nowhere at all. Before changing devices, clearing site data or switching browsers, assume that you may not carry a history or streak with you unless the live game explicitly confirms account-based synchronization.

When a number matters, capture the domain, mode and date alongside it. This prevents a Practice result on one site from being mistaken for a Daily result on another.

A streak normally represents consecutive successful rounds, but the exact definition is site-specific. The available pages confirm that quordle.me displays a Streak counter; they do not establish the counter’s reset conditions. The official destination’s streak behavior is likewise not readable from the JavaScript-required page.
Daily versus Practice
Do not assume that practice play changes a daily streak. quordle.game describes unlimited play without a daily mode, whereas quordle.me shows separate Daily and Practice controls. That difference alone means a practice round could be tracked separately, ignored, or handled in another way depending on the implementation.
To determine the rule on the page you are using, identify the mode before submitting a guess, then check the statistics panel after the round. If the interface does not explain whether a practice result affects Daily, do not rely on the displayed streak for a cross-site comparison.
How to play a documented independent version
The following procedure describes the format documented by quordle.game, not a guaranteed instruction set for the official Merriam-Webster game.
- Open the site and choose the available game mode.
- Enter a five-letter word using the keyboard on the page or your physical keyboard.
- Submit the word. The same guess is applied to all four boards.
- Read each board separately: green letters are correctly placed, yellow letters belong elsewhere in that answer, and gray letters are absent from that answer.
- Use the clues to narrow all four words while keeping the shared nine-attempt limit in view.
- Continue until all four answers are solved or the attempts are exhausted.
The site’s FAQ also says its layout adapts to mobile screens and includes an on-screen keyboard. That is a feature claim about this independent game; mobile behavior on the official destination should be checked directly.
Can you share a Quordle result?
quordle.game describes a spoiler-free emoji-grid share button. Such a grid can communicate the pattern of guesses without revealing the answers. The available description does not show whether the official Merriam-Webster game offers the same control.
Before sharing, check the destination and mode shown on your screen. A result copied from an unlimited implementation should not be presented as a Daily result, and a screenshot may expose more information than an emoji grid.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Modes listed on one Quordle-branded site
A page at dev.quordle.com displayed an October 8, 2026 entry with the modes Classic, Extreme, Chill, Sequence, Rescue, Image and Weekly Challenge. The listing is evidence of that page’s state on that date, not confirmation that every mode remains available or that the official Merriam-Webster destination uses the same names.
Mode names can imply different guess limits or objectives. The listing specifically indicates that guess limits differed among modes, but it does not provide a complete limit for each named mode in the accessible material. Read the mode’s own instructions before starting rather than carrying the nine-guess rule from one version into another.

Common access and tracking problems
The board never appears
The official destination says JavaScript is required. Check that scripts are enabled for the page, reload it, and verify that a content blocker or restrictive browser setting is not preventing the application from running. If the page still does not load, use the address bar to confirm that you are on the intended domain.
Your score does not match a friend’s
Compare domains, modes and dates first. One person may be using a Daily board on quordle.me, while another is playing an unlimited game on quordle.game. Their Played, Solved, Win % and Streak counters are not necessarily calculated the same way.
A streak changed unexpectedly
Check whether you switched from Daily to Practice, opened a different site, or used a mode with a different completion rule. Because the official streak policy is not exposed in the accessible page, the live interface is the only reliable authority for that destination.
You cannot find a purchase option
That absence does not prove a universal free policy. The independent site may be free while the official game has different terms, or the official page may show its commercial information only after JavaScript loads. Read the current page rather than relying on a search snippet or another site’s FAQ.
A practical checklist before you trust a result
- Confirm the exact domain after redirects.
- Note whether the board is Daily, Practice, Classic or another named mode.
- Check the displayed guess allowance; do not assume nine guesses outside the documented independent format.
- Read the site’s own explanation of Played, Win %, Streak and Solved, if those counters exist.
- Determine whether practice and daily rounds are separated.
- Use the site’s own share control when available, and check that it does not reveal answers.
- Do not compare streaks or percentages across sites without recording the implementation and mode.
In short, free browser play and four-board puzzles are documented by independent Quordle implementations, while the official Merriam-Webster game’s current price and tracking rules remain something you must verify on the live JavaScript application. Treat the domain and mode as part of every Quordle result.
