Is Qualcomm Raising Snapdragon X Laptop Chip Prices by 10%? What the Report Says

Qualcomm is reportedly raising prices for PC processor platforms including Snapdragon X and X2 Elite by about 10% starting in October 2026. That is a supply-chain report relayed by TrendForce—not a confirmed Qualcomm announcement—and it does not mean laptop prices will rise by 10%.

What is the reported Snapdragon X price increase?

TrendForce reported on October 12, 2026, that Qualcomm’s PC processor platform prices, including Snapdragon X and X2 Elite, would increase by approximately 10% starting in October. TrendForce attributed the report to Commercial Times, citing supply-chain sources; its article does not publish the underlying documents or a Qualcomm statement confirming the adjustment. TrendForce’s October 12 report should therefore be read as reported industry information, not as an official Qualcomm price notice.

The report concerns processor platform prices. It does not identify a specific laptop model or show that manufacturers or retailers have passed the change on to customers. A roughly 10% component-price adjustment is not evidence of an equivalent change in any laptop’s retail price.

Why does the report cite advanced-node and packaging costs?

TrendForce says Qualcomm’s expansion from smartphone processors into PCs, edge computing and other high-performance computing markets, alongside more advanced CPU, GPU and NPU specifications, is increasing reliance on advanced manufacturing nodes and packaging. The report presents these as cost pressures, but it does not quantify how much they contribute to the reported adjustment or break down the increase by component or platform.

  • OPERATING SYSTEM: Pre-installed Windows 11 Home offers the latest features, enhanced security, and intuitive user interface.
  • WARRANTY INCLUDED: Comes with 1-year manufacturer warranty covering both parts and labor for peace of mind with your purchase.

That context does not establish that Qualcomm has lost a historical cost advantage over x86 processors. The report offers no time series of Qualcomm costs, cost-per-performance comparison, or quantified x86 benchmark demonstrating that an advantage existed and has now eroded. The claim that over-reliance on advanced nodes has erased Qualcomm’s cost or efficiency strengths goes beyond the evidence available in this report.

Does this apply to smartphone Snapdragon chips?

No. The October report is about PC processor platforms, including Snapdragon X and X2 Elite. TrendForce separately covered smartphone chip price adjustments in an August 5, 2026 report, which described planned September 1 adjustments and tiered expectations for smartphone chips. That earlier smartphone reporting does not confirm or explain the reported October PC-platform increase.

What does this mean if you are choosing a laptop?

Do not assume that Snapdragon X laptops have become more expensive—or will all become more expensive—because of the processor report. Check the price and availability of the exact laptop model you are considering. To compare it with an x86 laptop, weigh the actual purchase price, performance for your workloads, battery life under comparable test conditions, software and peripheral compatibility, and stock. The cited reports provide no current model-by-model pricing or like-for-like laptop comparison.

What has Qualcomm said about Snapdragon X performance and battery life?

Qualcomm’s November 19, 2024 Investor Day transcript presents the company’s own case for Snapdragon X-series PCs. Alex Katouzian, then group general manager for mobile, compute, XR and wearables, said: “The X-series platforms are engineered for leading performance per watt, multiple high performance computing cores at lowest powers have been integrated into these X-series SoCs”. This is Qualcomm’s characterization, not independent comparative testing. The Investor Day transcript also includes illustrative company claims of 22 hours of video playback on one charge and 15 hours of continuous browsing for thin-and-light designs. Those figures are company statements, not a guarantee for every laptop or a basis for concluding that Snapdragon has a cost advantage over x86.
