QQQM is concentrated by design. It tracks the Nasdaq-100, a modified market-capitalization-weighted index of the largest non-financial companies listed on Nasdaq. That gives the biggest technology and growth companies a large influence on returns. Index caps and quarterly rebalancing limit any one position, but they do not remove concentration in shared technology, cloud, semiconductor, advertising and artificial-intelligence spending cycles.
QQQM can be a sensible satellite holding for an investor who deliberately wants mega-cap growth exposure. It is a weaker substitute for a broad-market core because 100 stocks are not equally weighted, financial companies are excluded, and several large holdings respond to the same economic forces. The right question is not simply whether NVIDIA is too large; it is whether your entire portfolio already depends on the same companies and growth factors.

What QQQM owns
QQQM invests at least 90% of its assets in securities in the Nasdaq-100. Invesco’s Q2 2026 fact sheet reported 103 holdings and a 0.15% total expense ratio as of June 30, 2026. The fund follows an index of the largest eligible domestic and international non-financial companies listed on Nasdaq, so the “100” in Nasdaq-100 refers to index constituents, not equal slices of the fund. Multiple share classes, cash and implementation details can make the fund’s reported holding count differ from the index label.
| QQQM characteristic | What the latest cited material establishes |
|---|---|
| Investment mandate | At least 90% of assets in Nasdaq-100 securities |
| Reported holdings | 103 as of June 30, 2026 |
| Total expense ratio | 0.15% as of June 30, 2026 |
| Index universe | Largest eligible non-financial companies listed on Nasdaq, including domestic and international companies |
| Reconstitution and rebalancing | Annual index reconstitution and quarterly rebalancing |
The fund therefore offers a rules-based way to own a group of large growth-oriented companies, not a neutral slice of the entire stock market.

Why a 100-stock index can still be concentrated
Modified market-capitalization weighting
Most Nasdaq-100 dollars follow company market values. A company that becomes more valuable than its peers receives a larger index weight, which means its gains contribute more to the index and its losses subtract more. The methodology modifies pure market-cap weighting with concentration limits, but it does not make every company equally important.
Caps limit extremes without creating equal exposure
The SEC’s April 30, 2026 supplement describes two relevant limits. At the annual adjustment, no individual security may exceed 15% of the index. At quarterly adjustments, no issuer may exceed 24%. These are ceilings, not target weights: most constituents remain far below them, while the largest companies can still represent a substantial share of the portfolio.
| Rule | When it applies | Practical effect |
|---|---|---|
| 15% maximum for a security | Annual adjustment | Prevents one share class or security from dominating at the annual review |
| 24% maximum for an issuer | Quarterly adjustment | Limits the combined influence of an issuer while allowing large companies to remain major positions |
| Quarterly reweighting | Four times each year | Can trim an oversized position, but does not eliminate exposure to the same business drivers |
Because the index is reweighted quarterly, a fast-rising company can grow into a larger contributor between reviews. The next rebalance may reduce its percentage, but it will not automatically replace the company with businesses from unrelated sectors.

Economic concentration is different from company count
Several companies can be legally separate while depending on the same customers, suppliers and spending decisions. Semiconductor demand, cloud-computing budgets, online advertising, consumer technology upgrades and artificial-intelligence infrastructure connect many Nasdaq-100 constituents. A portfolio can therefore be diversified by ticker while remaining concentrated in a smaller number of economic themes.
How much of the portfolio is in mega-cap names?
The SEC report for the six months ended March 31, 2026 provides a dated illustration from QQQ, another fund that tracks the same Nasdaq-100 index. It is not a same-day QQQM holdings table, and the percentages should not be presented as current QQQM weights. It shows how the shared index can allocate nearly half of its assets to ten large companies.

| Company | QQQ net-asset weight in the March 31, 2026 SEC report |
|---|---|
| NVIDIA | 8.68% |
| Apple | 7.63% |
| Microsoft | 5.63% |
| Amazon | 4.58% |
| Tesla | 3.80% |
| Meta | 3.46% |
| Walmart | 3.44% |
| Alphabet Class A | 3.43% |
| Alphabet Class C | 3.19% |
| Broadcom | 3.00% |
Those ten lines add up to approximately 46.84% of QQQ’s net assets on that reporting date. The first three account for about 21.94%. Alphabet appears in two share classes, so its two entries represent one corporate issuer’s combined economic influence more closely than a simple ticker count suggests.
Weights move with market prices, index reviews, corporate actions and fund implementation. Use the table as evidence of the index’s concentration pattern, not as a live October 2026 QQQM portfolio statement. The cited official materials do not provide a same-day October 16, 2026 QQQM top-ten table.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsIs NVIDIA the specific problem?
NVIDIA is an important single-stock exposure, but treating it as the only concentration risk misses the larger issue. A large NVIDIA position can hurt when the company’s valuation falls, data-center demand slows, supply conditions change or investors reduce enthusiasm for artificial-intelligence infrastructure. At the same time, the other largest constituents can decline for related reasons: cloud providers may reduce capital spending, advertisers may weaken, consumers may delay device purchases, or higher interest rates may compress growth-stock valuations.
QQQM does not automatically sell a stock because its price looks expensive. It follows the index methodology. If NVIDIA remains eligible and within the applicable limits, it stays in the portfolio. A quarterly rebalance can reduce an excessive weight, but the fund can still retain meaningful exposure to NVIDIA and companies whose earnings depend on the same AI and technology investment cycle.
A simple loss calculation
Using the 8.68% NVIDIA weight in the dated QQQ report only as an illustration, a 30% NVIDIA decline with every other holding unchanged would reduce the fund’s value by roughly 2.60 percentage points (8.68% multiplied by 30%). A 50% decline would subtract about 4.34 percentage points under the same simplified assumption. Actual results would differ because weights may have changed, other stocks may move, and index rebalancing does not happen continuously.

- [Dont Hesite to Order] 24 hours customer services and professional technology team are standing by
The more consequential risk can be a cluster decline. If NVIDIA, semiconductor suppliers, cloud platforms and advertising companies all fall together, losses can exceed the effect of any one holding. Correlation tends to rise during market stress, which is why a portfolio that looks diversified by ticker can still experience a concentrated drawdown.

What “diversified” means in QQQM’s case
Company diversification
Owning roughly 100 companies is broader than owning one or two stocks, and the index caps prevent an unlimited allocation to a single security. However, market-cap weighting leaves the largest companies responsible for a disproportionate share of returns. The fund is not an equal-weight portfolio.
Sector diversification
The Nasdaq-100 excludes financial companies. Its largest exposures commonly span information technology, communication services and consumer discretionary, with additional representation from areas such as health care, industrials and consumer staples. Sector labels can conceal common dependencies: a communications company selling advertising and a technology company selling cloud capacity may react to the same corporate budget cycle even though they sit in different classification groups.
Style and factor diversification
QQQM has a pronounced growth and momentum orientation because the largest, fastest-appreciating companies become larger index positions. That can help when investors reward long-duration growth, innovation and expanding profit margins. It can hurt when interest rates rise, valuations contract or investors rotate toward value, smaller companies or defensive businesses.
Geographic and financial exposure
The index includes eligible international companies listed on Nasdaq, but listing location does not make QQQM a broad global-market fund. It also has no dedicated financial-company allocation because financials are excluded by the index rules. Investors seeking exposure to banks, insurers, diversified foreign listings or smaller companies need another holding or strategy.

Invesco explicitly warns that investments focused in a particular industry or sector, such as information technology, face greater risk and can be more affected by market volatility than more diversified investments. The issuer also classifies the fund as non-diversified, which means it may be more volatile than a diversified investment.

| Investor objective | How QQQM fits | Main question to answer |
|---|---|---|
| Intentional mega-cap growth tilt | Potentially suitable as a satellite allocation | Can you tolerate a drawdown tied to technology valuations and shared growth drivers? |
| One fund for broad equity exposure | Limited fit because financials, smaller companies and many sectors are absent or underrepresented | Would a broader market index better cover the companies and sectors you do not own? |
| Reducing existing technology concentration | Usually counterproductive if current funds already have large positions in the same leaders | What percentage of your total portfolio is already invested in NVIDIA, Apple, Microsoft, Amazon, Alphabet, Meta and other Nasdaq-100 constituents? |
| Long-term growth with high volatility tolerance | Could complement a diversified core | Is the position size small enough that a severe technology sell-off will not derail your plan? |
There is no universal “safe” percentage for QQQM. The appropriate size depends on your other funds, account type, time horizon, need for current income and ability to keep investing during a drawdown. A person who already owns a broad-market fund may have substantial indirect QQQM exposure before buying any QQQM shares.
Should you pair QQQM with a total-market ETF?
Pairing a Nasdaq-100 fund with a total-market ETF can separate two jobs: the total-market fund supplies broader company, sector and style coverage, while QQQM adds a deliberate mega-cap growth tilt. The combination is not automatically diversified, because the total-market fund will also own many QQQM constituents. The benefit comes from adding holdings and exposures that QQQM omits, not from pretending the overlap does not exist.
Check overlap before deciding
- List every equity fund in the portfolio and obtain its latest holdings file.
- Identify repeated positions, especially NVIDIA, Apple, Microsoft, Amazon, Alphabet, Meta, Broadcom and other large Nasdaq-100 names.
- Estimate each company’s weight across the entire portfolio, not just inside one fund.
- Classify the remaining exposure by sector, company size, geography and investment style.
- Decide whether QQQM is filling a missing exposure or simply increasing an exposure you already have.
A total-market fund can reduce dependence on Nasdaq-listed mega-cap technology companies only to the extent that its broader holdings are meaningful relative to your QQQM position. If QQQM becomes the dominant equity allocation, the pairing may deliver less diversification than its fund count suggests.

The latest cited QQQM fact sheet lists a 0.15% total expense ratio as of June 30, 2026. That recurring operating cost is only one part of implementation. Investors should also consider the bid-ask spread they actually receive, trading liquidity, account taxes and whether frequent purchases or sales fit their plan. The available materials do not establish a universal spread, tax result or trading cost; those vary by broker, account and market conditions.
Best Value
Quarterly index rebalancing means weights can change without you placing a trade, while annual reconstitution can add or remove companies that no longer meet the index’s eligibility rules. Rebalancing can control an oversized position, but it can also change exposures at times when growth leadership or market momentum is shifting. Review the fund’s current holdings and prospectus before making a decision rather than relying on a historical table.
A practical concentration test
Use these questions before adding QQQM:
- Single-stock exposure: If NVIDIA fell 30% to 50%, would the direct and indirect effect be acceptable?
- Top-company overlap: Do your existing funds already make the same mega-cap companies your largest positions?
- Sector balance: Would a technology, cloud, semiconductor or advertising downturn threaten several holdings at once?
- Missing sectors: Do you have adequate financial, energy, real-estate, utility, health-care and smaller-company exposure elsewhere?
- Time horizon: Can you hold through a long period in which growth stocks trail the broader market?
- Role clarity: Is QQQM a deliberate satellite tilt, or are you using it as an accidental replacement for a diversified core?
- Rebalancing discipline: What rule will you use to keep the position from growing into an unintended portfolio concentration?
If your answers show that you want broad diversification, a total-market or multi-sector core may be the better foundation. If they show that you knowingly want Nasdaq-100 growth exposure and can absorb correlated losses, QQQM can serve that narrower purpose.
Bottom line for investors asking “Is QQQM too concentrated?”
QQQM is not “too concentrated” by an objective threshold; it is concentrated according to its mandate. NVIDIA is a visible part of the risk, but the broader exposure is to a group of mega-cap companies whose earnings and valuations can move together. The fund’s 15% security cap, 24% issuer cap and quarterly rebalancing constrain extremes without turning the Nasdaq-100 into a broad-market portfolio.
