Whether it is the best dark portfolio template for 2026 cannot be established from the available evidence. What can be checked is what the publisher says the template includes, what its license terms allow, what the plans cost at the time of checking, and which questions to answer before you commit.

The gallery
Two descriptions of the gallery differ. A Colorlib gallery roundup describes a dark three-column grid built on the Bootstrap 5 bundle and AOS, with no lightbox or filtering script in its grid example. The product listing for version 2.0.0 says gallery viewing now uses GLightbox. Treat detailed gallery behavior as version-dependent, and check the files in the download you receive rather than relying on either description.
Version 2.0.0: what changed and what is claimed
The official listing has a section titled “Photosen v2.0.0 – Major Performance Update.” According to Colorlib, the update includes:

Colorlib also states that the updated template is “49% smaller.” The listing does not say what was measured or how, so read this as the publisher’s own figure rather than a measured speed result. Your own page weight and load time will depend on your images, your host and your edits.
License: the label and the terms are different things
The Photosen product page displays “License: CC BY 3.0” and, on the same page, offers paid purchase plans. Colorlib’s separate license page covers paid template purchases. It says buyers may use the template on their own websites and on their clients’ websites, modify it, and remove the Colorlib credit. Domain and duration limits vary by plan.

The same license page sets these restrictions:
- You may not resell, sublicense, share or give away the template, including a modified version, as a template or starter kit.
- You may not publish the source files for others to download.
- Third-party libraries, fonts and icons keep their own licenses.
- Demo photos are for preview only and should be replaced before publication.
Do not read the CC BY 3.0 label as covering every file in the package. Each download includes a LICENSE.md file. Read it, and check the licenses of bundled components and imagery, before you publish a site built from the template.

Is it the best dark portfolio template?
The title’s word “best” is promotional. No independent comparison, ranking, benchmark or usability test of Photosen was found, so the evidence does not show that it outperforms other dark portfolio templates. The closest thing to an endorsement is a line from Colorlib’s author, Aigars Silkalns, in the listing dated September 29, 2026:
“If you want something unique, Photosen is a dark portfolio website template that will elevate any photographer’s work.”
That is marketing copy from the publisher, not an independent evaluation.
To compare Photosen with another template, use the same axes for both:
- Platform and framework (static HTML and Bootstrap, or a hosted visual builder)
- Dark visual treatment and gallery layout
- Content management or filtering features
- How the contact form is implemented
- Responsive behavior
- Included components and imagery
- License terms, including client and domain rights
- Support and update period
- Total price
For Photosen, use the publisher’s listing and license page. For any alternative, use that product’s own current documentation.

- You are comfortable uploading files and editing HTML, CSS or JavaScript.
- You need one image-led site for one photographer or one studio, and you can work within the listed domain limits.
Poor fit
- You need a hosted service with no file handling.
- You need frequent content updates by non-technical staff, since the listing does not describe a content management system.
- You plan to sell prints or products online, since the listing does not describe ecommerce features.
- You plan to resell or redistribute the template or a modified version of it.
Checks before you buy or launch
- Confirm the plan, price and domain limit on Colorlib’s license page at checkout.
- Open LICENSE.md in the download and note the licenses of bundled libraries, fonts and icons.
- Replace every demo photo with your own images before the site goes live.
- Send a test message through the contact form on your actual host. The listing does not describe where form submissions are delivered, so confirm that on your own setup.
- Check the gallery on a phone and a tablet, including touch navigation, and confirm which gallery library your copy actually uses.
