Short answer: PEAK looks like a good fit for groups that enjoy tense, unpredictable climbing runs, but you cannot treat it as a confirmed PS5 purchase yet. Landfall says console versions are in development and that cross-play with Steam and other consoles is planned. The developer has not announced a PS5 release date, price, or current PS5 availability.
If you are deciding whether to watch the port, the released game is built around four-player teamwork, hazardous routes, limited stamina, injuries, and daily-changing maps. It is most appealing when mistakes become funny or dramatic group stories; it is less suitable if you want a relaxed platformer, a formal difficulty selector, or a guaranteed long-term live-service schedule.

Is PEAK on PS5 right now?
Not on the evidence available from the official sources reviewed. Landfall’s official FAQ says the team is working on console versions and plans cross-platform play with Steam and other consoles, but it gives no PS5 release date or price. A PEAK Team update on Steam says preparation for console ports was underway and that room codes had been added to support cross-platform play once those ports are released.
That makes the PS5 version a port to watch rather than a game you can reliably buy and play today. Do not infer a launch window, PS5 performance target, DualSense feature set, trophy list, or console price from the Steam edition. Those details need a newer, platform-specific announcement.

What kind of game is PEAK?
Steam describes PEAK as a co-op climbing game in which “the slightest mistake can spell your doom.” The basic loop is a hazardous mountain ascent: choose a route, climb through dangerous terrain, collect useful supplies, and keep the team moving toward the summit. A fall, a bad route choice, or an injury can turn a promising attempt into a rescue operation.
The challenge is not simply reaching the next ledge. Players have to help one another over difficult sections, use ropes and climbing spikes, scavenge food, and account for injuries that reduce stamina. The result is a risk-and-resource game in which movement, inventory decisions, and communication all affect whether the group can continue.
The moment-to-moment decisions
- Route selection: A safer-looking path may take longer, while a direct route may expose the group to more dangerous terrain. The official description emphasizes hazards and setbacks rather than a fixed, predictable obstacle course.
- Team assistance: Players can help teammates over ledges and coordinate rope use. A climber who reaches a useful anchor or a difficult lip can change what the rest of the group can attempt.
- Supplies: Food is part of the climb’s survival economy. Scavenging is therefore a strategic task, not just optional collection.
- Injury management: Injuries reduce stamina. A mistake can therefore make later sections harder even after the immediate danger has passed.
How does PEAK co-op work?
The following details come from the listed Steam edition. They are the best guide to the intended multiplayer design, but they should not be treated as confirmed PS5 specifications until Landfall publishes console information.

Why four-player co-op changes the experience
Four players give a run more options for scouting, helping and recovering from mistakes, but they also create more opportunities for confusion. Proximity chat encourages local conversations: players can warn someone about a hazard, call for a rope, or decide whether to split briefly to search for supplies. Because the communication is proximity-based, a player who moves too far away may not hear or be heard by the rest of the group.
The design also makes coordination consequential. One person rushing ahead can leave injured or low-stamina teammates behind; a group that stops to help can spend more time exposed to hazards. Those trade-offs are the source of much of the game’s co-op tension.

What is a typical climbing run like?
Start by reading the route
Before committing to a difficult section, identify where teammates can stand, where a rope might help, and whether the route offers a fallback if someone slips. PEAK’s official description does not provide a fixed route script, so the useful skill is evaluating the immediate terrain rather than memorizing one universal solution.
Keep the group capable of moving
Stamina is a shared practical concern even when each character manages it individually. Injuries reduce stamina, so a player who takes damage early may still be present but unable to handle later climbs. Food scavenging and cautious movement preserve options for the rest of the ascent.

Use help instead of treating every obstacle as a solo test
The game specifically highlights helping teammates over ledges, ropes and climbing spikes. That means a strong run is not merely the fastest individual ascent. It is a sequence in which players create safer opportunities for one another and recover when someone makes a mistake.
Accept that failure is part of the format
Steam’s own wording frames a small mistake as potentially fatal. A failed run is therefore not evidence that the game is broken or that every route should be solved perfectly. The intended rhythm is to learn how hazards, resources and team decisions interact, then try again.
Is PEAK hard?
Yes, in the practical sense of being punishing and resource-conscious, but the official materials reviewed do not document selectable difficulty modes or named settings such as Easy, Normal or Hard. It is more accurate to call PEAK a risk-and-resource challenge than to assign it a formal difficulty tier.

For a first group session, agree on simple rules: stay within communication range, call out injuries, decide who carries or deploys useful tools, and stop to regroup before a high-risk section. These are not official difficulty settings; they are ways to make the game’s intended cooperation easier to manage.
Does PEAK have cross-play?
Cross-play is planned, not confirmed as a currently usable PS5 feature. Landfall’s FAQ says the developers intend cross-platform play with Steam and other consoles. The PEAK Team’s Steam update says room codes were added with cross-platform play in mind once console ports are out.
Until a console announcement specifies supported platforms and account requirements, avoid assuming that a PS5 player will be able to join a Steam friend immediately at launch. The eventual implementation could still define limits around invites, matchmaking, voice chat or progression.
Is PEAK replayable?
Its replayability is built around changing daily conditions and collectible goals rather than a promise that every climb is completely unique. Steam says the island map rotates every 24 hours and that players can retry a map during the day. It also lists four biomes, dozens of badges and cosmetics to unlock, plus 64 Steam achievements.
What the daily rotation adds
A 24-hour rotation gives regular players a reason to return and compare approaches. You can retry the current map during that day, so a failed attempt does not force an immediate wait for a new layout. The system supports a useful loop: learn a route, adjust team behavior, and make another attempt while the same map is available.

What it does not guarantee
“Rotates every 24 hours” does not mean that every run is wholly procedurally unique or that the game has unlimited content. The official information establishes a rotating island map, four biomes and collectible objectives, but it does not quantify the number of layouts or state how often a particular route can recur.
Progression and collection
Badges, cosmetics and 64 achievements provide longer-term goals for players who enjoy completion. They can extend interest beyond simply reaching the summit, especially for a regular group that wants to improve its consistency or finish optional objectives. Players who want a campaign with extensive story progression should set expectations differently: the available official descriptions emphasize repeatable climbing runs and unlockables, not a long narrative campaign.

When checked on October 13, 2026, Steam displayed 95% positive English reviews from 140,144 reviews. That is a large and favorable PC-store signal, but it is time-sensitive, can change as new reviews arrive, and is not a PS5 rating. It also reflects the Steam version’s controls, performance and player community rather than an unreleased console build.
Use the figure as evidence that the core concept has resonated with many PC players, not as proof that the eventual PS5 port will have identical technical quality or features.
What Landfall’s live-service statement means for replay value
Landfall’s official FAQ says, “As we’ve said since the beginning, PEAK isn’t a live-service-game.” The FAQ also explains that the developers do not intend it to become a forever game, expect to return to their separate projects, and plan to continue maintenance and bug fixes until they are satisfied with stability.
That position matters when judging replayability. The daily map rotation, biomes, badges, cosmetics and achievements are current reasons to replay; they should not be read as a promise of an endless seasonal roadmap, constant events or years of expansion. Buy into the game’s present loop rather than an assumed live-service cadence.
Who should wait for the PS5 version?
Wait if these conditions describe you
- You only play on PlayStation and do not want to buy another version just to try the game.
- You need a confirmed release date, price, performance target or trophy information before planning a purchase.
- Your friends are on Steam and cross-play is essential; the feature is planned but not yet confirmed as operational on PS5.
- You prefer formal difficulty options, a highly scripted campaign or guaranteed long-term content updates.
Keep PEAK on your watch list if these conditions fit
- You enjoy cooperative games where communication and recovery matter as much as mechanical execution.
- You like runs that can fail because of a small mistake, then become more manageable through better decisions.
- You value daily map rotation, repeated attempts, badges, cosmetics and achievement hunting.
- You have a regular group of up to four and are comfortable with a game whose console details are still pending.
What is still unknown about PS5?
The official information reviewed does not establish the PS5 release date, price, resolution or frame-rate targets, DualSense support, trophy structure, save transfer, cross-save, voice-chat implementation, matchmaking rules or whether all Steam multiplayer options will carry over unchanged. It also does not confirm whether the console edition will launch simultaneously with other platforms.
Those are practical purchase questions, so check a new Landfall or PEAK Team announcement before spending money. Until then, the safest assessment is about the game’s design and the Steam edition, not the unannounced technical behavior of a PS5 port.

PEAK is worth watching for PS5 if your ideal co-op game is a demanding, funny and sometimes disastrous climb for up to four people. Its strongest case is the combination of physical teamwork, proximity communication, resource pressure, injury consequences and repeatable daily maps. The Steam edition also has concrete collection goals through badges, cosmetics and 64 achievements.
It is not yet a confirmed PS5 recommendation because Landfall has announced console development and planned cross-play, not a release date or a purchasable PS5 edition. Treat the game as a promising port candidate: decide based on the climbing loop and the Steam evidence now, then verify the actual PlayStation launch details before buying.
