No—not through Sony’s normal, supported PS5 backward-compatibility and PlayStation Store route. P.T. was removed from the PlayStation Store in 2015, and Konami later confirmed that it would not be available for redownload through PS5 backward compatibility. A PS5, new controller, or larger SSD does not restore that delisted download.
That answer concerns the ordinary consumer path: downloading P.T. from the Store, restoring it from a PS4 library, or using PS5’s built-in compatibility features. It does not verify every unusual case involving a retained installation on an older PS4, a secondhand console, account-transfer claims, or modified hardware. Those should not be treated as standard, supported solutions.

The short answer: P.T. is not normally playable on PS5
P.T. is a delisted PS4 playable teaser. Under Sony’s supported software-delivery model, you cannot obtain it as a fresh PS5 download, and you cannot rely on PS5 backward compatibility to redownload it from your library.

In October 2020, GameSpot reported a statement from Konami given to GamesRadar: “the content will not be available on the PS Store, so users won’t be able to re-download the content through the backwards compatibility feature to the PS5.” That is the clearest P.T.-specific answer to whether the demo works on PS5.

The wording matters. It does not say that every copy ever installed on every PS4 was technically erased, nor does it test every unofficial experiment. It says the normal PS5 redownload route is unavailable. For a buyer deciding whether a PS5 will let them play P.T., the practical answer is therefore no.
Why PS5’s broad PS4 compatibility does not include P.T.
PS5 supports the overwhelming majority of PS4 games, but “most PS4 games” is not the same as “every PS4 item.” Sony’s official backward-compatibility guidance explains that supported PS4 games can generally be installed from a disc or downloaded from a digital library. Its PS4-only list excludes demos, media applications and other non-game software, so that general list cannot establish P.T.’s availability.
Sony’s November 9, 2020 “PS5: The Ultimate FAQ” put the launch-era scope at more than 99 percent of the 4,000-plus games available on PS4. The same FAQ said the majority of legacy PS4 demos and betas would not be playable. Those are historical statements from the 2020 FAQ, not a new 2026 measurement and not a P.T.-specific compatibility guarantee.

P.T. is especially difficult because it is a demo-sized teaser that was delisted rather than a normally sold PS4 release. Two separate conditions must be met for a PS4 title to appear on a PS5: the software must be supported, and the owner must have a legitimate installation or download entitlement that Sony still serves. P.T. fails the ordinary availability test even before a console can evaluate compatibility.
What happened to P.T.’s download availability
The 2015 delisting
GameSpot reported in May 2015 that P.T. had been removed from PlayStation’s servers and was no longer downloadable on PS4, including for people who had previously added it to their library. That historical removal is why the usual “open Game Library and download it again” advice does not apply.
The 2020 PS5 confirmation
When PS5 launched, the question shifted from “Can a PS4 still run an existing installation?” to “Can PS5 retrieve the title?” Konami’s statement, reported by GameSpot in October 2020, answered that second question directly: P.T. would not be available on the PlayStation Store, and users would not be able to redownload it through PS5 backward compatibility.

No source cited here provides a current P.T. player count, sales figure, or percentage of working installations. Claims that assign a number to how many consoles still contain it should be treated as speculation unless independently documented.

These checks are safe and use only standard console features. They are useful for confirming the limitation, not for bypassing it.
- Open Game Library on the PS5. Sign in with the PlayStation account that previously owned or downloaded P.T., then check the collection and purchased items. A missing entry, unavailable download button, or no result is consistent with the delisting and Konami’s PS5 statement.
- Search the PlayStation Store. Search for “P.T.” exactly. The expected result is no downloadable listing. Do not confuse similarly named horror games, trailers, themes or videos with the playable teaser.
- Check your PS4 library separately. If the title is not present on the PS4 account’s library and was not already installed on a PS4, the supported PS5 route does not provide a replacement entitlement.
- Do not assume a transfer prompt changes availability. A PS5 can transfer many supported PS4 games and saves over a network or from storage, but a transfer tool cannot create a Store download for software Sony no longer serves. P.T.-specific transfer behavior is not established by the cited sources.
If the Store and library checks fail, buying extra storage, a second DualSense controller or a different PS5 edition will not alter the account-level availability restriction.

Cases that need careful qualification
You still have P.T. installed on a PS4
An already-installed copy on an older PS4 is a different situation from downloading P.T. on PS5. You may be able to keep using that PS4 installation under the conditions that still apply to that console and account. The cited Konami statement rules out the ordinary PS5 backward-compatibility redownload path; it does not verify every edge case involving a retained PS4 installation.
Do not erase the PS4 storage, initialize the console or delete the application while investigating. Once an unavailable title is removed, the normal Store cannot be assumed to restore it. This is preservation advice, not a guarantee that the installation can be moved or launched elsewhere.
You previously added P.T. to your account but removed it
Adding the teaser before the 2015 delisting does not, by itself, guarantee a PS5 download. GameSpot’s 2015 report specifically said that even people who had previously added it to their library could no longer download it on PS4. Konami’s later statement extends the practical limitation to PS5’s backward-compatibility redownload route.
You find a secondhand PS4 advertised with P.T.
Listings for consoles said to contain P.T. are not a dependable ordinary purchase path. The cited sources do not verify those listings, inspect the consoles, guarantee that the application launches, or explain whether a seller’s account, license and hardware state will remain usable after a reset. Treat such claims as unverified and understand that a factory reset or account change could remove access.
You are considering a modified console or unofficial download
The evidence available here does not establish modified-console methods, account transfers, package files or unofficial downloads as supported, reliable or appropriate consumer options. Such procedures can involve security, legality, account and hardware risks. They are outside the normal PS5 compatibility answer and should not be presented as a solution.

A practical decision guide
If your goal is the original P.T. experience
- You have a PS4 with P.T. still installed: preserve that console and installation. The sources do not confirm a supported move to PS5.
- You have only an account history or an old library entry: expect the PS5 Store and download route to remain unavailable.
- You own neither an installation nor a compatible retained console: there is no ordinary PS5 purchase or download that restores the original teaser.
If your goal is a similar psychological-horror experience
Look for separately sold horror games or clearly labeled fan recreations on current platforms. Check each title’s own PS5 listing and publisher support page; similarity in setting or looping structure does not make it an official P.T. port. Do not assume that a game described as “inspired by P.T.” contains the original content.

If a seller promises access
- Ask whether P.T. is visibly installed and launches before any reset or account change.
- Confirm which account owns the console’s digital content and whether that account will remain available to you.
- Assume the claim is unverified unless you can test the exact hardware and installation in person.
- Do not pay a premium on the assumption that Sony will restore the download later; the cited statements provide no such assurance.
Does PS5 backward compatibility ever restore delisted software?
Backward compatibility is a way to run supported software; it is not a universal archive of every item once distributed on PS4. Sony’s guidance covers supported games that can be installed from disc or downloaded from a digital library. Demos and betas are explicitly treated more narrowly, and P.T. has the separate complication of being removed from PlayStation servers.
That distinction explains why a PS5 can play thousands of ordinary PS4 releases while still failing to provide P.T. A compatibility percentage describes the catalogue as a whole. It does not override a publisher’s Store withdrawal or create a download entitlement for a delisted teaser.
Bottom line for PS5 owners
For the normal, supported route, P.T. is not playable on PS5: it is not available as a PlayStation Store download, and Konami said users could not redownload it through PS5 backward compatibility. A retained installation on a PS4 should be treated as a separate, unverified edge case rather than evidence that PS5 supports the title. Avoid spending money on accessories or treating secondhand-console claims as guaranteed access.
