1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesYes—conditionally. The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered is a sensible PC purchase if you want to revisit the 2006 role-playing game with substantially refreshed visuals, refined gameplay, and its major expansions, and your computer meets the published requirements. The deciding factor is hardware: Steam lists a 125 GB installation, an SSD, 16 GB of memory at minimum, and comparatively demanding graphics cards. A dated April 2025 technical analysis also found serious CPU, GPU-load, and stutter problems at launch. Bethesda has since published performance-focused fixes, but neither the requirements nor the updates promise a universal frame rate on every PC.
The short answer: who should buy it
Buy the standard edition when you primarily want the remastered base game and do not need the extra quest packs, cosmetic sets, or digital extras. Choose Deluxe when you want the complete package: both major story expansions, the additional downloadable content, new equipment quests, and the artbook and soundtrack app. At the time of the Steam listing used for this guide, the standard edition was shown at $49.99 and Digital Deluxe at $59.99. Those are retrieval-time prices, not permanent prices; regional pricing, sales, taxes, and later changes can alter the difference.

Hold off, or check your hardware more carefully, if your PC is close to the minimum specification, still uses a hard disk, has only 8 GB of RAM, or you expect a guaranteed high-refresh-rate experience. The official listing gives component requirements, not a promised resolution, frame rate, or frame-time consistency. Your target—such as 1080p at 60 frames per second or a higher-resolution display—matters as much as the parts list.
The most useful way to make the decision is to separate three questions. First, do you want this particular version of Oblivion? Second, will your PC satisfy the operating-system, processor, graphics, memory, DirectX, storage-capacity, and SSD requirements? Third, is the current price fair for the amount of content you expect to play? A “yes” to the first question cannot compensate for an unsupported drive or insufficient hardware, and meeting the minimum list does not answer the third.

What Oblivion Remastered is and when it launched
Bethesda announced the remaster for release on April 22, 2025, on PC, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and Game Pass. Bethesda describes refreshed visuals and refined gameplay rather than a simple texture pack. Steam identifies Bethesda Game Studios and Virtuos as developers and Bethesda Softworks as publisher.
The project revisits the 2006 open-world role-playing game. Its appeal is therefore twofold: it is a modernized way to play a classic adventure, and it is a large single-player game whose technical demands resemble a current PC release more than an old catalog title. That combination explains why edition choice and hardware checks should come before purchase.
The remaster is also a substantial installation rather than a small enhancement layered onto an existing copy. Steam lists 125 GB of required free space and explicitly requires an SSD. Plan the destination drive before purchasing, particularly if your operating-system drive is nearly full or if you expect to keep several large games installed at the same time.
Standard vs. Digital Deluxe: what you actually receive
The Steam listing separates the base game from a Digital Deluxe Edition. The Deluxe package contains the digital base game plus the following content:
| Content | Standard edition | Digital Deluxe edition |
|---|---|---|
| Remastered base game | Included | Included |
| Akatosh armor, weapons, and horse armor quest | Not included | Included |
| Mehrunes Dagon armor, weapons, and horse armor quest | Not included | Included |
| Digital artbook | Not included | Included |
| Soundtrack app | Not included | Included |
| Shivering Isles story expansion | Not included | Included |
| Knights of the Nine story expansion | Not included | Included |
| Fighter’s Stronghold | Not included | Included |
| Spell Tomes | Not included | Included |
| Vile Lair | Not included | Included |
| Mehrune’s Razor | Not included | Included |
| The Thieves Den | Not included | Included |
| Wizard’s Tower | Not included | Included |
| The Orrery | Not included | Included |
| Horse Armor Pack | Not included | Included |
At the retrieved Steam prices, Deluxe cost $10 more than standard. That difference is easiest to justify if you expect to play both major expansions or want the complete downloadable-content set. If you only intend to finish the main campaign, the standard edition avoids paying for content you may never use. Check the live Steam page in your region before deciding; the displayed amount can change with a sale or currency conversion.
Think of the upgrade as a content decision, not a performance tier. Deluxe does not represent a faster or better-running PC version in the listed information; it adds quests, equipment, expansions, downloadable content, and digital extras. Conversely, standard is not a reduced-quality graphical edition. Both choices should be evaluated against the same PC requirements and the same performance caveats.

- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
The two major expansions are the clearest value divider. Shivering Isles and Knights of the Nine are story content, while the other listed additions are smaller DLC, equipment-related quests, or extras. If you know you will explore beyond the main campaign, buying Deluxe at checkout can be simpler than deciding later whether separate content is worth obtaining. If your plan is deliberately limited to the core adventure, standard keeps the initial spend lower.

Published PC requirements
Steam lists two hardware tiers. These are compatibility guidance, not a benchmark or a guarantee of smooth performance.
| Component | Minimum | Recommended |
|---|---|---|
| Operating system | Windows 10 version 21H1, 64-bit | Windows 10 or Windows 11 with updates |
| Processor | AMD Ryzen 5 2600X or Intel Core i7-6800K | AMD Ryzen 5 3600X or Intel Core i5-10600K |
| Memory | 16 GB RAM | 32 GB RAM |
| Graphics | AMD Radeon RX 5700 or NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 Ti | AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT or NVIDIA RTX 2080 |
| API | DirectX 12 | DirectX 12 |
| Storage | 125 GB free space | 125 GB free space |
| Drive | SSD required | SSD required |
The SSD requirement is explicit in the storefront wording: “SSD Required.” Leave more than the bare 125 GB if your system drive is nearly full, because Windows, shader caches, updates, and other games also need working space. If you need additional capacity, an internal SSD is the relevant type of upgrade; no particular model is established here.
Notice that the listing names exact CPU and GPU models rather than a generic “modern PC” label. If your processor or graphics card is different, the table does not by itself certify the result. Compare your hardware carefully and avoid treating a similar product name as an automatic equivalence. Integrated graphics are not identified in the published tiers, so a laptop or desktop relying on integrated graphics needs especially cautious checking rather than an assumption that it will qualify.
How to interpret the tiers
- Minimum is not a target preset. Meeting the listed processor and graphics card does not establish a particular frame rate or image quality.
- Recommended is still not a 4K guarantee. It identifies a stronger baseline, but Steam does not attach a resolution, preset, or frame-rate promise to it.
- Memory matters. The jump from 16 GB to 32 GB is substantial for a modern open-world title, especially when browsers, launchers, recording tools, or mods are running.
- Storage type matters as well as capacity. A hard disk fails the stated requirement even when it has enough free space.
- Parts work together. A recommended graphics card cannot erase a processor bottleneck, and extra RAM cannot make an unsupported graphics API or drive acceptable.
Check whether your PC is ready
Use this order so a single overlooked constraint does not lead to a frustrating purchase.
- Identify your Windows version. Press
Win+R, enterwinver, and confirm a 64-bit Windows 10 installation at version 21H1 or newer, or an updated Windows 11 installation. - Record your processor and memory. Open Settings > System > About and compare the CPU model and installed RAM with the table. Close memory-heavy applications when considering available headroom; installed capacity is the requirement being listed, not a momentary free-memory reading.
- Check the graphics card. Open Settings > System > Display > Advanced display, or run
dxdiagand inspect the Display tab. Match the discrete GPU model—not only integrated graphics—to the minimum or recommended tier. - Confirm DirectX 12 support. In
dxdiag, check the DirectX version shown on the System tab. The game lists DirectX 12 as a requirement. - Verify the drive. In File Explorer, right-click the destination drive and choose Properties. It should be an SSD with at least 125 GB free before installation. Steam’s wording makes the SSD non-optional.
- Set a realistic display goal. Decide whether you care most about 1080p, a higher resolution, a fixed 60-fps target, or a high-refresh display. The published tiers do not specify any of those outcomes, so a PC that technically qualifies may still require lower settings.
Do this check before buying rather than after downloading. A 125 GB free-space figure can disappear quickly when an operating-system drive also holds updates, temporary files, and other games. Likewise, a PC with 16 GB installed may satisfy the minimum line but leave less room for background software than one with 32 GB. These are planning considerations, not extra official requirements.

What is known about PC performance
Digital Foundry’s April 26, 2025 PC analysis reported CPU-related performance problems, heavy GPU demands, and stuttering in its launch-era testing, including after an early patch. That is useful evidence of technical risk, but it is not a current benchmark for every configuration. Drivers, game updates, Windows versions, and settings can change results.
Bethesda’s July 16, 2025 Update 1.2 post says the update focused on quest, gameplay, and performance fixes. Bethesda Support also directs players to the in-game graphics settings and general low-frame-rate troubleshooting. Those official materials establish that performance work and troubleshooting are available; they do not establish a universal frame rate for a specific processor or graphics card.
The dates matter. Digital Foundry’s assessment describes launch-era behavior on April 26, 2025, while Bethesda’s cited performance update came on July 16, 2025. It would be inaccurate to present the former as a measurement of every later patch, but it would also be inaccurate to pretend the launch concerns never existed. The honest conclusion is that performance risk is real and configuration-dependent, with official fixes having been released.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Does it still stutter?
There is no single yes-or-no answer that applies to every PC. Launch-era testing documented stutter, while later official updates addressed performance issues. Treat stutter as configuration- and update-dependent: install the current patch, use current graphics drivers, and evaluate your own frame-time behavior rather than assuming that either the launch reports or the requirements describe your exact experience.
Average frame rate alone is not enough to judge this question. A system can show a strong average while producing noticeable hitches, whereas a lower but steadier frame rate may feel more consistent. The published sources do not provide a universal frame-rate figure, so do not promise one for a particular GPU or CPU without direct testing of that exact setup.
Practical first steps after installation
- Let Steam finish the complete download and any first-launch shader or asset processing before judging performance.
- Install the latest available GPU driver for your card and restart Windows.
- Open the game’s graphics settings and begin with a conservative preset. Change one demanding option at a time so you can identify which setting affects frame time.
- Watch both average frame rate and hitching. A high average with repeated pauses can feel worse than a lower, stable cap.
- If frame rate remains low, use Bethesda’s support guidance for low-FPS troubleshooting and test again after closing overlays, recording software, and unnecessary background applications.
- Recheck after the game, driver, or operating system changes. A result from one patch is not a permanent guarantee for every later version.
These steps cannot turn hardware below the minimum into supported hardware, but they distinguish an installation or configuration problem from a fundamental GPU or CPU limit. They also give you a more useful answer than relying on a single launch video made on someone else’s machine.

How the price difference changes the value calculation
Using the retrieved Steam display of $49.99 for standard and $59.99 for Deluxe, the upgrade was $10 at that moment—roughly one-fifth of the standard price. That is a small premium relative to a full-price game when you intend to play Shivering Isles, Knights of the Nine, and the listed smaller DLC. It is less compelling when you only want the remastered main quest or are uncertain whether you will continue after the opening hours.

A sale can change the recommendation in either direction. If the editions are discounted by different amounts, the relevant question is the current gap, not the historical $10. Conversely, a narrow temporary gap can make Deluxe attractive even for a player who is undecided about one expansion. Check the storefront immediately before checkout and verify what your region’s purchase includes.
Reasons to buy on PC
- You want the refreshed presentation. The remaster’s purpose is to modernize the visuals and refine gameplay while retaining the underlying adventure.
- You want one purchase that includes the expansions. Deluxe bundles both major story expansions and the additional DLC listed above.
- Your computer is comfortably above the requirements. Extra CPU, GPU, RAM, and SSD headroom gives you more room to adjust image quality and background applications.
- You value adjustable settings. PC lets you tune the graphics options to your display and performance tolerance rather than accepting a fixed console configuration.
- You are comfortable maintaining the installation. Current drivers, patches, and settings checks are part of getting the best result from a demanding PC release.
Reasons to wait or choose standard
- Your PC only barely meets minimum. The minimum tier is not tied to a frame-rate or resolution promise, and launch-era analysis identified technical problems.
- You use a hard disk. Steam explicitly requires an SSD, so storage type—not just free capacity—is a blocker.
- You have limited free space. Reserve at least the listed 125 GB and practical headroom for the operating system and updates.
- You are buying for the main story only. Standard avoids paying the Deluxe premium for expansions and extras you may not use.
- You require guaranteed high-refresh performance. Neither Steam’s requirements nor the cited official updates promise a particular frame rate at a chosen resolution.
- You dislike troubleshooting. The dated independent analysis and the existence of official low-FPS guidance indicate that some players may need to adjust settings rather than simply install and forget.
A sensible purchase checklist
- Confirm your edition and the live regional price immediately before checkout.
- Match CPU, GPU, RAM, DirectX 12, Windows version, SSD type, and free space against Steam’s current listing.
- Decide your target resolution and frame rate; do not infer them from the words “minimum” or “recommended.”
- Install the current game update and graphics driver before evaluating performance.
- Keep expectations calibrated by the date of independent testing: Digital Foundry’s stutter findings were from April 26, 2025, while Bethesda’s Update 1.2 performance post was dated July 16, 2025.
- If you need a new drive, budget for an internal SSD with enough capacity beyond the game’s 125 GB requirement; the compatibility guidance does not endorse a particular model.
Verdict
Oblivion Remastered is worth buying on PC for fans of the original and newcomers who want its refreshed presentation and can provide the required SSD and modern hardware. Deluxe is the better value when the two major expansions and complete DLC bundle are part of your plan; standard is the cleaner purchase for the base game alone. The reservation is performance uncertainty: official requirements are demanding, and launch-era independent testing found stutter and heavy CPU/GPU pressure. Buy with a hardware and target-performance check, not with the assumption that meeting a component list guarantees a perfectly smooth result.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Oblivion Remastered worth buying on PC?
It is a conditional buy. The remaster is appealing if you want refreshed visuals, refined gameplay, and the classic 2006 adventure, but your PC must meet Steam’s demanding requirements, including 16 GB RAM minimum, a DirectX 12 GPU, 125 GB of free space, and an SSD. Launch-era testing reported stutter and heavy CPU/GPU demands, so do not buy on the assumption of a guaranteed frame rate.

How much did the editions cost?
At the Steam listing retrieval used for this guide, standard was $49.99 and Digital Deluxe was $59.99. Steam prices vary by region, currency, taxes, sales, and date, so verify the live price before checkout.
Can my PC run Oblivion Remastered?
Compare your system with Steam’s current listing. Minimum requirements include 64-bit Windows 10 version 21H1, a Ryzen 5 2600X or Core i7-6800K, 16 GB RAM, an RX 5700 or GTX 1070 Ti, DirectX 12, 125 GB free space, and an SSD. Recommended hardware rises to a Ryzen 5 3600X or Core i5-10600K, 32 GB RAM, an RX 6800 XT or RTX 2080, plus the same DirectX 12, storage, and SSD requirements.
Does Oblivion Remastered still stutter on PC?
There is no universal answer. Digital Foundry reported stutter and other performance problems in April 2025 launch-era testing, including after an early patch. Bethesda’s July 16, 2025 Update 1.2 included performance fixes, but results remain dependent on hardware, drivers, settings, and the current game version.
Recommended Free Tools
Is an SSD really required?
Yes. Steam’s system-requirements wording explicitly says “SSD Required.” Having 125 GB free on a hard disk does not satisfy that stated requirement.
Does recommended hardware guarantee 60 fps or 4K?
No. Steam lists component tiers but does not attach a guaranteed resolution, preset, frame rate, or frame-time target to either tier. Your display resolution and desired frame rate should be part of the buying decision.
Should I buy Deluxe if I only want the main story?
Usually choose standard if you are confident you will play only the main campaign. Deluxe makes more sense when you want both major expansions, the smaller DLC, the bonus equipment quests, and the digital artbook and soundtrack app.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: Buy Oblivion Remastered on PC if your system has the required SSD, 125 GB of space, and modern CPU/GPU hardware, and you accept configuration-dependent performance. Choose Deluxe for the expansions and complete DLC bundle; choose standard for the base game. Check the live price and current patch before purchasing.
