What Metro Redux includes
Metro Redux bundles Metro 2033 Redux and Metro: Last Light Redux. The Xbox Store listings describe both games as adapted from Dmitry Glukhovsky’s novel series. Their atmospheric setting, tense exploration and limited-resource combat are the clearest reasons to play them. Those are publisher and store descriptions, not independent proof that every aspect has aged well.

Choose Survival for a slower, more resource-conscious approach with a stronger survival-horror emphasis.

Choose Spartan for a more combat-focused experience. It is the more natural starting point if you want the shooting to take priority over the survival pressure.
Ranger Mode
Ranger Mode removes HUD and UI elements and makes combat deadlier while keeping resources limited, according to the official store descriptions. It is a higher-pressure option, not the best default if you are learning the games or want more on-screen guidance.

Should you play now or wait for the console update?
PLAION’s official support FAQ schedules a free console upgrade for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on October 29, 2026, with Japan scheduled for November. As of October 4, that is a future release date, not a confirmation that the update is available. PLAION says new purchasers will receive the upgrade automatically and existing owners will get it free; check your regional store for current purchasing and ownership details.
The publisher describes the update as a quality-of-life upgrade, not a remaster or remake. It also explicitly says ray tracing is not included. Those statements do not establish a particular resolution, frame rate, loading-time change or visual uplift, so treat the announced scope as limited to what PLAION has actually specified.

Who should play Metro Redux?
- Good fit: players who want two connected, story-led campaigns, an oppressive post-apocalyptic setting and combat shaped by scarce resources.
- Better with a different expectation: players who want a newly remade game, confirmed ray tracing, or documented current-generation performance figures. PLAION says this update is not a remake or remaster and does not add ray tracing.
- Start with: Survival for a more deliberate, survival-horror feel; Spartan for more combat emphasis. Leave Ranger Mode for when you want the added challenge of no HUD, deadlier combat and limited supplies.
