YouTube does not say that every looped gameplay livestream is reused content. Monetization risk depends on where the footage came from, what original commentary or value you add, whether the stream is repetitive, the game publisher’s commercial-use rights, and the pattern across your channel. A loop’s format alone cannot guarantee either approval or rejection.
What YouTube means by reused content
YouTube describes reused content as material repurposed from YouTube or another online source without significant original commentary, substantive modification, or educational or entertainment value. Reviewers may consider videos and channel information to understand how you participated in or produced the content. YouTube’s channel monetization policies treat reused content as a monetization-policy issue distinct from copyright enforcement.

That distinction matters: permission from a rights holder, or credit to the original creator, does not by itself establish that a video meets the reused-content standard. Conversely, a reused-content concern can apply even if you have permission to use material. Copyright and monetization eligibility are separate questions.

Gameplay has an additional monetization caveat
YouTube says monetization of game content may depend on commercial-use rights granted by the game publisher. Its video game and software content guidance also says: “Videos simply showing a user playing a video game or the use of software for extended periods of time may not be accepted for monetization.” The guidance identifies commentary tied to the live action that provides instructional or educational value as a possible basis for monetization; it does not set a guaranteed formula for a loop.

A TeamYouTube FAQ dated April 25, 2024 gives “Compilations or clips edited together with little or no narrative (examples include movies, sports, or gameplay)” as examples that could violate reused-content rules. A loop is not expressly named as automatically disallowed, but a bare loop of borrowed gameplay can share the underlying concern: little original narrative or value. Read the TeamYouTube FAQ.
Review your whole channel, not just one livestream
YouTube says reused-content issues may affect monetization across a channel. Reviewers may consider the channel’s main theme, most-viewed and newest videos, the content responsible for the largest share of watch time, metadata, and the About section. One stream therefore sits within a broader pattern of what the channel publishes and how it presents that work.

On July 15, 2025, YouTube renamed its “repetitious content” policy to “inauthentic content” to clarify that it addresses repetitive or mass-produced material. YouTube said that this clarification did not change its reused-content policy. The two concerns are related in some cases, but they are not interchangeable.
Ways to make the stream’s original value clearer
- Use gameplay you created or have the necessary rights to use; check the publisher’s commercial-use terms for the specific game.
- Make commentary specific to what is happening on screen—for example, explain a strategy, teach a mechanic, or tell a coherent story—rather than relying on a title or description to supply context.
- Give the stream meaningful structure or variation instead of publishing substantially identical loops with no new contribution.
- Describe accurately in the title, description, and channel information what you made and what viewers will get from it.
- Assess the channel as a whole: a single edited stream does not erase a wider pattern of repetitive or minimally transformed uploads.
These are ways to address the factors YouTube identifies, not a checklist that guarantees YPP acceptance. YouTube publishes no seconds-long or percentage threshold that makes a gameplay loop automatically disqualifying.
