Is LEGO Pikachu and Poké Ball (72152) Worth Buying? Build Time, Size and Display Guide

Yes—if you want a large Pokémon display model and enjoy a several-hour LEGO build. LEGO Pokémon Pikachu and Poké Ball (set 72152) contains 2,050 pieces, takes most builders roughly four to five hours, and measures more than 35 cm high, 26 cm wide and 39 cm deep. Its defining feature is Pikachu launching from an open Poké Ball on a lightning-bolt stand, with a separate closed-ball resting presentation. That makes it a compelling centerpiece for adult Pokémon and LEGO fans, but a poor choice if you need a compact model, a fully articulated figure or something designed for frequent handling.

Quick verdict

Set 72152 is best understood as a substantial display sculpture rather than a conventional playset. The build has enough size and internal engineering to feel like a project, while the finished scene immediately communicates Pikachu, a Poké Ball and a battle launch. The 18+ designation, fixed upward-looking head, large footprint and reviewer reports of fragility during repositioning all point toward careful, mostly stationary display.

Whether it is worth buying depends more on your room, viewing angle and attachment to Pikachu than on the raw piece count. A discounted local price can improve the value, but the launch prices of $199.99, £179.99 and €199.99 are historical context, not a current-price guarantee.

What you actually build

Pikachu comes first

Brickset describes the first nine numbered bags as the Pikachu build. You construct the character’s body and recognizable yellow surfaces before turning to the surrounding display hardware. The interior uses a colorful structural arrangement rather than being a simple solid block, so the model can be large without making every step visually identical.

The Poké Ball is a separate short section

After Pikachu, a shorter interlude builds the Poké Ball. The ball is not a conventional hinged container that you flip open and shut during normal use. The two halves use different connecting elements for the open and closed presentations, so changing scenes means removing and reassembling parts.

Bags 10–16 create the stand

The final major phase builds the substantial lightning-bolt stand. This is what supports the suspended launch pose and gives the finished model its visual height and depth. It also explains why the set needs considerably more shelf space than a free-standing Pikachu figure.

The sequence gives the project a natural rhythm: character, ball, then display engineering. If you prefer a single uninterrupted session, Brickset’s one-evening account suggests that is realistic. If you build in shorter blocks, GamesRadar’s reviewer worked in roughly hour-long installments and finished in about four to five hours.

How long does LEGO Pikachu and Poké Ball take to build?

Plan for a relaxed evening or several shorter sessions. GamesRadar labels the set 4–6 hours and records an individual completion time somewhere between four and five hours. Brickset reports finishing in one evening. Those figures vary with sorting habits, experience, interruptions and how carefully you interpret the instructions.

  • Fast, experienced builder: potentially one long session, provided pieces are sorted efficiently.
  • Typical relaxed build: roughly four to five hours based on the reported hands-on review time.
  • Unhurried or interrupted build: reserve the upper end of the 4–6-hour estimate or split the numbered bags across multiple evenings.

GamesRadar characterizes the construction as generally straightforward but mellow in places. The repeated yellow elements can feel monotonous, and the reviewer encountered occasional moments where instruction interpretation required extra attention. That is a pacing observation, not evidence of a widespread design fault.

How big is set 72152, and will it fit your shelf?

LEGO lists the completed model at more than 35 cm high, 26 cm wide and 39 cm deep. Measure the intended location with the stand installed; checking only Pikachu’s body or the closed ball will underestimate the depth. Leave additional clearance around the lightning effects so the model does not touch a wall, cabinet door or neighboring display.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
Planning question Practical check
Will it fit vertically? Keep at least 35 cm of usable height, then add clearance above the ears and stand for lifting the model into place.
Will the shelf be deep enough? Allow the full 39 cm depth, not just the Poké Ball’s diameter.
Will it dominate the shelf? At 26 cm wide plus surrounding clearance, it works best as a centerpiece rather than one item squeezed between small sets.
Can viewers see the intended pose? Check sight lines from standing and seated positions. Pikachu’s face is designed to look upward.

Product pages may round inch conversions differently from the metric figures. For furniture decisions, use the metric specification supplied by LEGO and physically measure your shelf.

Display modes: launch scene or resting presentation

Battle stance with the ball open

The signature arrangement shows Pikachu launching upward from an open Poké Ball, supported by the lightning-bolt stand. This is the most dynamic and visually distinctive configuration, and it makes the best use of the model’s height.

Resting pose with the ball closed

LEGO also describes a calmer presentation with Pikachu mounted on the stand while the Poké Ball is closed. The change is a display transformation rather than a quick mechanical action: Brickset and GamesRadar both note that the connecting elements differ between the open and closed arrangements.

What the change means in practice

Choose one arrangement for routine display and treat the other as an occasional reconfiguration. Repeatedly separating and reconnecting the ball is more involved than operating a hinge, so the set favors collectors who enjoy arranging a scene rather than constantly switching modes.

Articulation, viewing angle and handling

The model is built around a designed pose, not broad action-figure articulation. GamesRadar says the ears and limbs can move and that the tail has limited articulation. Brickset notes that the head is locked looking upward. The upward gaze gives the launch scene its character, but it can be awkward on a very high shelf or from a viewing position above the model.

  • Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft

Reviewers also differ in their handling impressions. GamesRadar describes its example as fragile during repositioning, while Brickset focuses on the engineering that makes the suspended pose possible. Treat the fragility comment as one reviewer’s hands-on observation, not a measured defect rate or a guarantee that every copy will fail. Support the stand and character when moving the completed model, and avoid using the ears, tail or lightning elements as handles.

Build quality and visual character

Brickset praises the building techniques, colorful internal structure and the completed display’s impact. The stand is not merely decorative: it creates the visual suspension that sells Pikachu’s leap. Character-specific details, the lightning motif and the “25” on the base give the sculpture a clear Pokémon identity even when viewed from across a room.

Face impressions are subjective. A buyer who expects a highly poseable figure or a perfectly screen-accurate expression should inspect official images and reviewer photographs before ordering, rather than assuming that a large brick-built model will look like a molded statue from every angle.

Dust, lighting and long-term display

Brickset points out that the stand’s horizontal black surfaces can collect dust. An enclosed cabinet is useful if you already have one, but no special case is required. For an open shelf:

  • Use a soft, clean brush or air blower at low pressure instead of pressing a cloth into the lightning structure.
  • Lift the model from the base or strongest stand sections when dusting or relocating it.
  • Keep it away from direct sunlight and heat sources that can discolor parts or make a display area unstable.
  • Leave enough room to remove the model without catching the ears, tail or ball on adjacent objects.

The black stand can make dust more visible than on yellow surfaces, so an occasional gentle cleaning schedule is more practical than waiting until the display is heavily coated.

Is the price justified?

The launch-era prices—$199.99, £179.99 and €199.99—describe the set when it debuted, not what every retailer charges now. Taxes, regional pricing, stock and discounts can change the calculation. Do not divide the price by 2,050 pieces and treat that result as a complete value score: large display parts, specialized colors, engineering and the Pokémon license all affect what you are buying.

Value factor Why it matters
Character attachment If Pikachu is a favorite, the display story and recognizable silhouette may justify a premium more than an equivalent generic sculpture would.
Build experience The set offers a multi-stage project with internal techniques and a substantial stand, not just a small character model.
Display impact The launch pose occupies enough volume to act as a centerpiece and remain visible from across a room.
Space cost A 39 cm-deep shelf may be harder to provide than the purchase price, especially in a small office or bedroom.
Handling expectations If you want to pose and replay with the figure often, limited articulation and reviewer-reported fragility reduce the value.
Current deal A retailer discount can materially improve value; verify the live price and stock in your country before deciding.

Who should buy it?

Strong fit

  • Pokémon fans who specifically want a large Pikachu centerpiece.
  • Adult LEGO builders who enjoy a four-to-six-hour sculpture project.
  • Collectors with a shelf, cabinet or tabletop that can accommodate more than 35 × 26 × 39 cm.
  • Buyers who appreciate a designed scene, character details and two display presentations.

Weak fit

  • Anyone looking for a compact or inexpensive Pokémon set.
  • Collectors wanting a highly articulated action figure with many independent poses.
  • People who expect the Poké Ball to open and close on a normal hinge.
  • Owners who plan to handle, transport or reposition the completed model frequently.
  • Shoppers whose intended shelf forces a top-down viewing angle that hides Pikachu’s upward-facing expression.

A practical buying checklist

  1. Measure first. Confirm at least 35 cm of height, 26 cm of width and 39 cm of depth, plus room to lift the model in and out.
  2. Choose your primary pose. The open-ball launch arrangement is the showcase option; the closed-ball version is calmer but requires reassembly.
  3. Check the sight line. View the proposed shelf from normal standing and seated positions because the head looks upward.
  4. Decide how hands-on you will be. Plan for display and occasional rearrangement rather than constant play.
  5. Compare the live local price. Treat the launch prices as historical reference only and include shipping, tax and return terms.
  6. Plan dust access. Make sure you can reach the stand’s horizontal black surfaces without moving neighboring collectibles.

How the set fits LEGO’s Pokémon launch

Set 72152 belongs to the first LEGO Pokémon wave, which launched on 27 February 2026. In the launch announcement, LEGO Group Chief Product & Marketing Officer Julia Goldin said: “Bringing the world of Pokémon to life in LEGO bricks is both an exciting opportunity and a great responsibility. We’ve worked to combine our worlds in a way that truly celebrates the creativity, adventure, and wonder that Pokémon represents. This partnership opens up a whole new range of possibilities for Trainers and builders alike, and we can’t wait for fans to experience these new LEGO Pokémon sets.” The announcement is available from the LEGO Group’s 12 January 2026 release.

Final buying decision

Buy LEGO Pikachu and Poké Ball 72152 when the character matters to you, you have a suitable display location and you enjoy a substantial build. Its 2,050 pieces, lightning-supported launch scene, “25” base detail and two presentation options give it more presence than a small character model. Skip it when space, frequent handling, compactness or extensive articulation are your priorities. The most reliable value test is simple: measure the shelf, inspect the viewing angle and check the current local price before ordering.
