Only if your oven’s manual allows it—and never if the foil blocks the broiler rack’s drainage openings. Foil rules differ by appliance and by placement: foil under the bacon, covering a slotted rack, and lining the pan beneath the rack are not interchangeable.
Why foil can make broiling bacon risky
Bacon releases hot fat as it cooks. If foil blocks the openings in a broiler rack, that fat cannot drain into the pan below and may become hot enough to ignite. One appliance guide warns that fat trapped by foil covering the rack “may easily ignite.” Appliance guide

Do not assume that foil allowed for ordinary oven cooking is also allowed under a broiler. USDA FSIS says aluminum foil can be used in a conventional oven set no higher than 400 °F (204.4 °C); that guidance does not establish a general rule for broiling. USDA FSIS guidance

| Instruction | What it permits or warns against | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| GE JBP89 manual | Allows foil on that model’s broiler pan and grid only when it is molded tightly and slit to match the grid, so fat and juices can drain. It warns that trapped juices could become hot enough to catch fire. GE JBP89 manual | Follow those directions only if you have that model and its manual applies. |
| Another appliance guide | Warns never to cover broiler rack openings with foil because fat cannot drip away and may ignite; it requires the broiler pan and tray to be in place. Appliance guide | Keep the rack openings uncovered and use the required pan and tray. |
These instructions are model-specific, not conflicting universal rules. Your own oven’s manual controls. The GE manual also says not to cover the oven bottom with foil. GE JBP89 manual

Check your setup before broiling
- Find the oven manual. Look for its broiling instructions and any restrictions on foil on the broiler pan, rack, or oven floor.
- Identify where the foil would go. Foil beneath bacon on a slotted rack can block drainage; foil lining the pan underneath may be treated differently by your manual. Do not assume either placement is allowed.
- Keep drainage paths open. If your manual permits foil on a pan or grid, follow its placement and cutting instructions exactly. If it prohibits covering the rack, leave the openings uncovered.
- Use the pan and tray specified by the manual. Do not improvise a setup that prevents grease from collecting as intended.
Cook and store bacon safely
There is no universal broiling time in USDA FSIS guidance: cooking time depends on the bacon type and thickness, heat, and desired crispness. Follow the bacon package and oven manual, and cook bacon completely. Do not partly cook bacon and refrigerate it to finish later. USDA FSIS bacon guidance
