The distinction matters because the Nintendo, PlayStation and Steam product pages describe online multiplayer, but they do not publish a compatibility matrix connecting their versions to one another. The strongest official evidence is an Xbox Wire announcement from 2021. It says an update enabled players to “cross play with friends on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Windows PC.” The Windows reference is to the Xbox/Microsoft version, not automatically every PC copy sold through every storefront.

Can Xbox and PC play Human: Fall Flat together?
Yes, when the PC player uses the Xbox/Microsoft version. The documented crossplay group contains Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and Windows PC. The announcement does not extend that statement to the Steam edition or to an unspecified PC release.
What the PC player should verify
- Confirm that the game is the Windows PC version tied to the Xbox/Microsoft ecosystem, rather than assuming every PC storefront uses the same multiplayer network.

The official Steam listing confirms online multiplayer and shared or split-screen co-op, but it does not publish a crossplay matrix. Consequently, there is no official confirmation in the available material that Steam players can join Xbox, PlayStation or Switch players.
Steam’s online multiplayer label tells you that a Steam user can play online; it does not identify which other storefronts or hardware platforms are supported. If one person owns Steam and another owns an Xbox, the documented Xbox-to-Windows statement should not be applied to Steam automatically.
Can PlayStation players join Xbox, Switch or PC players?

A group made entirely of PlayStation players can therefore rely on the stated online capability, subject to the PlayStation Plus requirement. A mixed PlayStation group should treat cross-platform access as unconfirmed unless a later platform notice or game update explicitly adds it.

Can Nintendo Switch players play with other platforms?
Nintendo’s product page advertises online multiplayer for up to eight players and requires Nintendo Switch Online for online play. It does not state that the Switch edition connects to Xbox, PlayStation, Steam or the Windows PC version.
The eight-player figure is an online-player limit for the Switch listing; it is not evidence that eight players can be assembled across different platforms. A Switch owner choosing the game for a mixed-platform group should verify compatibility with the group’s exact editions first.
Accessories and physical editions
Nintendo notes that additional accessories may be required for some play setups. If you are buying a physical Switch edition or an extra controller, check the current edition name, regional listing and accessory requirements at the retailer before ordering. Those purchase details do not change the separate question of whether the Switch version supports crossplay.
How to check compatibility before buying
- List every player’s hardware. Write down Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC, Steam PC, Switch, PS4 or PS5 for each person.
- Identify the PC storefront. “PC” is not specific enough. Mark whether the copy is the Xbox/Microsoft Windows version or the Steam edition.

- Update before testing. Install the latest game update on every system, then have one player host an online session and invite the others through the platform’s supported multiplayer flow.
- Keep purchase records clear. Save the exact storefront and edition name for each player. If someone cannot join, this information quickly reveals whether the group is mixing a documented Xbox/Microsoft copy with an unconfirmed storefront.
What to do when crossplay does not work
Xbox console and Xbox/Microsoft PC player cannot connect
- Recheck that the PC copy is the Xbox/Microsoft version, not Steam.
- Confirm that Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and Windows installations have completed the same current update.
- Have everyone leave the session, restart the game and create a fresh lobby.
- Verify that each player is signed into the intended online account and is inviting through the platform’s normal multiplayer interface.

A Steam, Switch or PlayStation player cannot join
First classify the problem correctly. The available official listings do not confirm those versions as part of the Xbox-to-Windows crossplay group. If your party mixes Steam, Switch or PlayStation with Xbox/Microsoft copies, the failed connection may reflect an unsupported combination rather than a temporary fault.
For an all-Steam, all-Switch or all-PlayStation party, use that platform’s own online multiplayer system and meet its subscription requirement where applicable. Steam also lists shared and split-screen co-op, which can be useful when players are together locally rather than relying on cross-platform online play.
Does crossplay include local or split-screen co-op?
Crossplay and local multiplayer are separate features. The Steam store page explicitly lists online multiplayer plus shared/split-screen co-op. The Switch and PlayStation listings cited here establish online player counts, but they do not provide a comparable cross-platform matrix or a complete local-mode specification. Do not infer local or split-screen behavior on one platform from another platform’s store description.
What about Human Fall Flat 2?
Information about the original game should not be transferred to the sequel. The official Human Fall Flat FAQ says, “We don’t have a release date yet!” for Human Fall Flat 2. With no announced release date or settled launch-platform list in that statement, its future crossplay cannot be promised.
When the sequel receives firm platform and multiplayer details, check those announcements separately. A crossplay feature in the original game would not automatically guarantee the same feature, platform pairing or account system in a sequel.
The practical buying decision
If everyone in your group uses Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S or the Xbox/Microsoft Windows version, the available official announcement supports a crossplay purchase. If even one player uses Steam, Switch or PlayStation, pause before buying multiple copies: those combinations are not confirmed by the platform information cited here.
For a same-platform group, compare the features that are actually stated for that edition: Switch and PlayStation list online play for up to eight players, Steam lists online plus shared/split-screen co-op, and PlayStation requires PlayStation Plus while Switch requires Nintendo Switch Online.
