Is Hot Wheels Infinite Rush Worth Buying on Nintendo Switch 2?

Verdict: it is a conditional buy. Hot Wheels Infinite Rush has the right ingredients for collectors and arcade-racing fans: four islands to explore, more than 150 vehicles to unlock, vehicle customization, a track builder, and local or online multiplayer. The Nintendo Switch 2 version’s main drawback is not its content but its delivery. Milestone targets 1080p at 30 frames per second, and multiple reviews report long loading screens. Reports of stutters, input lag, freezes, and crashes are less consistent, but they make the recommendation more cautious for players who expect a polished, fast-transitioning open-world racer.

What you are buying

Hot Wheels Infinite Rush is an arcade racer built around collecting toy cars, completing events, and exploring themed open-world islands. Nintendo’s US listing gives the Switch 2 release date as September 10, 2026, identifies the game as a digital download, and lists a 12.7 GB file size. That means storage space is part of the purchase decision: check the free space on your console or microSD Express card before downloading.

The publisher describes a collection of more than 150 vehicles earned through events, activities, and challenges. That number is a publisher-listed target rather than an independent count of every model available in every edition, but it signals the game’s central loop: keep racing and exploring to expand a garage, then customize the cars you use. The appeal is closer to building a virtual Hot Wheels collection than completing a single linear championship.

Four islands and four vehicle classes

Milestone structures progression across four islands. Each island contains events, challenges, free-exploration activities, and a Rush Master boss. The vehicles are divided into four classes:

  • Versatiles are the general-purpose class.
  • Titans emphasize a heavier, more powerful feel.
  • Drifters are aimed at sliding and controlled cornering.
  • Speeders prioritize outright pace.

The class system gives the collection a practical purpose. You are not merely filling a garage; you are choosing a vehicle type that fits an event or a preferred driving style. Cars can also be customized, adding another reason to keep experimenting with newly unlocked vehicles. A player who enjoys comparing handling characteristics and finding a favorite for each activity will get more out of the garage than someone who wants one universally dominant car.

Events beyond ordinary races

Platform-tested coverage describes a broader event mix than standard laps. Alongside races, reviewers mention time attacks, stunt activities, and destruction challenges. This variety helps the campaign feel like a Hot Wheels playground rather than a conventional circuit championship. Time attacks emphasize clean routes and speed, stunt activities reward controlled jumps and tricks, and destruction challenges change the objective from simply reaching the finish line.

What’s It Like? found the track creator accessible and liked the range of activities, while noting that early progression can leave the open world feeling empty between events. Nintendo Wire judged the open-world campaign repetitive and felt the handling model did not always fit the open-world format. Final Weapon praised the core arcade racing but also reported repetitive content and technical problems. Those are independent reviewers’ impressions, not guarantees that every player will have the same experience. Together, they suggest that the game’s strongest moments are individual races and creative play, while the connective open-world structure may test your patience.

Track Builder

The Track Builder lets you create courses using the world environment. This is one of the strongest reasons to choose Infinite Rush over a racer that only supplies fixed tracks. Players who enjoy experimenting with jumps, layouts, and stunt routes can spend time creating their own challenges instead of treating the campaign as the entire game.

The builder is described as approachable rather than an intimidating construction tool. That makes it suitable for casual experimentation, but players looking for a highly technical, simulation-style editor should keep expectations realistic: the appeal is rapid toy-track creativity inside an arcade game. Its value also depends on how much you enjoy replaying and refining your own ideas; it is an extension of the core game, not a substitute for a deep professional-level course editor.

How the Switch 2 version performs

The most important technical fact is Milestone’s stated Switch 2 target: 1080p at 30 fps. This is a target or specification statement from a Milestone representative reported by GamingBolt, not an independent measurement proving that every scene remains at that rate. Do not buy this version expecting a 60 fps Switch 2 racer.

The 30 fps target is not automatically a deal-breaker. A stable 30 fps can work well for an arcade racer, especially when the priority is a large, detailed world. The question is whether the transitions and frame pacing interfere with play. Here the reviews diverge in important ways. The target also helps explain the local split-screen compromise: rendering the world and physics in multiple views is demanding, so Milestone limited the local race field rather than promise the same conditions as a solo event.

The consistent complaint: loading

What’s It Like? reports very long waits when moving between the open world and events, while still describing the frame rate as locked to the 30 fps target. Final Weapon says its loads averaged around 30 seconds. Nintendo Wire also calls out long loading and says docked play did not materially improve the experience.

These reports come from separate reviewers using their own builds. They establish loading as a recurring weakness, not a universal stopwatch result for every copy or a confirmed current patch status. The waits matter most because the game repeatedly moves you between free exploration and event spaces. If you dislike repeated interruptions between activities, this is the Switch 2 version’s clearest reason to wait or compare another platform. A long load once at startup is easier to tolerate than frequent delays whenever you select the next activity.

Other reported issues are less consistent

Nintendo Wire reports stutters in some open areas and perceived input lag, and gives a notably negative assessment of the Switch 2 experience. Final Weapon says most of its playthrough was fine but records a freeze and two race-start crashes. What’s It Like? reports no performance issue beyond the long loads.

That variation matters. It would be inaccurate to describe Infinite Rush as universally unstable, but it would also be misleading to present the game as technically spotless. Players who are highly sensitive to frame pacing, input response, or occasional crashes should treat the conflicting reports as a warning and check for later patch information before purchasing. A reviewer’s crash count is not a forecast of your personal crash rate, and a clean session does not prove every build behaves identically.

What the technical trade-off means in practice

  • Choose it confidently if you can accept a 30 fps target and regard loading as a minor interruption.
  • Be cautious if you want rapid event-to-event play, minimal downtime, or consistently immediate steering response.
  • Wait for updates or more current testing if reports of stutters, input lag, freezes, or crashes would make you stop playing.

There is no evidence here to promise that a patch has eliminated any of these problems. Performance can change after updates, so the current eShop listing, patch notes, and recent platform-specific tests should be checked if you are buying well after launch.

Multiplayer and player limits

Nintendo lists one to four players on a single system and two to twelve players online. Its listing says online play is limited to Switch 2 users, so do not assume that the online mode connects Switch and Switch 2 owners unless Nintendo later changes that policy. That restriction is especially important when planning a purchase for a mixed group of older Switch and Switch 2 owners.

There is an important qualification for local play. In a GamingBolt interview, a Milestone representative explained that local split-screen races cap the total number of participating vehicles at six, including AI. The six-vehicle limit applies to local split-screen races; it is not a general cap on every mode or on the online player count. Four human players can therefore share a system, but the full field will not necessarily include a large number of computer-controlled rivals.

Rendering the world and physics in several split-screen views is demanding, and Milestone said compromises were made to maintain the frame-rate target. This is a technical limitation to keep in mind when comparing local play with solo racing, not a claim that all modes have six vehicles. Online play remains listed separately at two to twelve players.

Who benefits most from multiplayer

  • Local groups: up to four people can play on one system, with the six-vehicle race-field qualification.
  • Online groups: Nintendo lists two to twelve players, restricted to Switch 2 users according to the product listing.
  • Solo players: the islands, collection, events, challenges, and Track Builder provide the main progression even if you rarely play multiplayer.

Families should also distinguish “four players on one system” from four full fields of competitive cars. The human-player count and vehicle-field count describe different limits.

Standard, Deluxe, and Ultimate editions

Nintendo’s official listings show a digital base game plus optional downloadable content. The standard edition contains the core game: the four-island campaign, vehicle collection, customization, Track Builder, and the listed single-player, local, and online modes. The official material does not establish that a paid vehicle pack is necessary to enjoy that base experience.

Edition Included content Best for
Standard Full game and core modes Players who want to try the campaign, collection, exploration, and builder without committing to bundled add-ons
Deluxe Full game plus Vehicle Pass Players who already want the Vehicle Pass content rather than buying it separately
Ultimate Full game, Vehicle Pass, Ferrari Expansion Pack, and Car Collection Pack Collectors who specifically want the complete announced bundle

Nintendo says Vehicle Pass content will be available by October 2027. That is a content-availability statement, not a promise that every item will be delivered at launch. If you buy a bundle for future vehicles, you are accepting a wait for some of that content.

The retrieved Nintendo listing did not provide a reliable current base price for every region. Prices, taxes, and edition availability can change, so compare the live regional eShop totals before upgrading. The sensible rule is to buy Deluxe or Ultimate only when the included add-ons match what you actually want; do not pay extra merely because the larger bundle has a more attractive name. A collector who wants every announced vehicle may value Ultimate, while someone still unsure about the campaign should start with Standard and avoid paying for content they may never use.

Is the campaign substantial enough?

For a collector, probably yes. Four islands, a 150-plus-vehicle goal, multiple event types, boss encounters, customization, and a creator mode offer a substantial amount of activity on paper. The game is designed to keep giving you reasons to return after the first few races: unlock another car, test a different class, clear a challenge, or build a route that suits a favorite vehicle.

For someone seeking a tightly paced open-world championship, the answer is less certain. The early world can feel sparse between events, and Nintendo Wire’s criticism of repetition and the handling model points to a structural issue rather than a single technical glitch. If your ideal racer is a sequence of immediately available, carefully varied events, the open-world format may feel like extra travel between the parts you enjoy.

The Track Builder changes that calculation for creative players. Building and replaying custom routes can extend the game beyond the authored campaign, particularly if you enjoy trying unusual vehicle classes on your own layouts. It does not remove the campaign’s repetition, but it gives the collection a user-driven outlet. Conversely, if you never make custom tracks and only want a polished sequence of races, the builder’s presence should not be treated as a reason to overlook the loading issue.

Who should buy it on Switch 2?

Strong candidates

  • Hot Wheels fans who want to collect recognizable toy cars in a game built around that fantasy.
  • Arcade-racing players who prefer accessible handling over simulation physics.
  • Players who enjoy unlocking, customizing, and testing several vehicle classes.
  • Creative players who want a straightforward track-building tool.
  • Friends or families looking for local split-screen racing on one Switch 2.
  • Players comfortable with a 30 fps target who value Nintendo’s portable and dockable format.

Buy carefully or wait

  • Players who consider 60 fps essential.
  • Anyone who finds 20- to 30-second transition waits unacceptable.
  • Players particularly sensitive to stutters, perceived input lag, freezes, or crashes.
  • Open-world racing fans who expect dense activity and consistently varied events.
  • Anyone choosing an expensive edition without first identifying which DLC they will use.
  • Groups that need online cross-play with original Switch owners.

A practical buying decision

  1. Decide whether the collection is the main attraction. If unlocking more than 150 vehicles, customizing them, and exploring islands sounds better than chasing perfect technical performance, the game is more likely to suit you.
  2. Accept the performance target. Treat 1080p/30 fps as the intended Switch 2 experience, not as a temporary placeholder for 60 fps.
  3. Set your tolerance for loading. Multiple reviews identify long transitions as the most consistent weakness. If you normally abandon games that interrupt your flow, wait for current patch evidence.
  4. Choose the edition by content. Start with Standard unless you specifically want the Vehicle Pass. Choose Ultimate only for the Vehicle Pass, Ferrari Expansion Pack, and Car Collection Pack together.
  5. Check multiplayer expectations. Confirm that your online group is using Switch 2, and remember that local split-screen races have a six-vehicle total including AI.
  6. Check storage and the live regional listing. The listed download is 12.7 GB. Verify the current price, download size, edition contents, and any post-launch update information immediately before purchase.

How it compares as a Switch 2 purchase

The available comparison supports a narrow conclusion rather than a universal platform ranking. The Switch 2 specification is clearly stated at 1080p/30 fps, while other platforms have been associated with higher stated resolution or frame-rate targets. However, platform-tested reviews for those versions are not established here, so you should not assume another version is automatically better in real play, nor treat the Switch 2 target as evidence that every other version runs flawlessly.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

For a Switch 2 owner, the relevant trade-off is straightforward: you get the complete arcade-racing concept in a portable and dockable format, but you accept a 30 fps target and repeated reports of lengthy loading. A platform comparison is worthwhile only if smoothness and transition times matter more to you than playing on Nintendo’s hardware.

Final recommendation

Hot Wheels Infinite Rush is worth buying on Nintendo Switch 2 when its collection, toy-car presentation, open-world islands, and creative track building are the features you value most. The base game offers enough systems and activities to justify more than a handful of races, and local and online options broaden its appeal.

It is not an unconditional recommendation because the Switch 2 version targets 30 fps and has a well-supported complaint about loading. Stutters, input lag, freezes, and crashes appear in some reviews but not others, so performance-sensitive players should wait for updated testing or patches. For everyone else, the Standard edition is the safest entry point; move to Deluxe or Ultimate only when their specific DLC matches your plans.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Hot Wheels Infinite Rush 60 fps on Nintendo Switch 2?

No. Milestone’s stated target for Switch 2 is 1080p at 30 fps. Treat that as the intended specification, not a promise of 60 fps performance.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

How long are the loading screens?

Reviews agree that loading is a notable weakness. Final Weapon reported averages of about 30 seconds, while What’s It Like? and Nintendo Wire also described very long transitions. Exact times can vary by build and situation.

Does the game support four-player local multiplayer?

Nintendo lists one to four players on one system. For local split-screen races, Milestone specifies a total field limit of six vehicles, including AI, so the human-player count is not the same as the maximum race field.

Can Switch and Switch 2 players race online together?

Nintendo’s listing says online play is limited to Switch 2 users. Do not assume cross-generation online play unless Nintendo changes that listing.

How many cars are in the game?

Milestone and Nintendo describe more than 150 vehicles. That is the publisher’s listed collection count, not an independently verified model count for every edition or platform.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Which edition should most players buy?

Standard is the safest starting point because it includes the core game, islands, collection, customization, Track Builder, and multiplayer modes. Choose Deluxe for the Vehicle Pass, or Ultimate if you specifically want the Vehicle Pass, Ferrari Expansion Pack, and Car Collection Pack.

Is the Track Builder worth paying extra for?

The Track Builder is part of the core game rather than a separately identified paid upgrade. It is a strong feature for players who enjoy making and replaying custom toy-car routes, but it does not guarantee a deep simulation-style editor.

Should performance-sensitive players buy now?

They should be cautious. One review found the frame rate effectively locked to the 30 fps target aside from loading, while others reported stutters, perceived input lag, freezes, or crashes. Checking current patches and recent Switch 2 testing before buying is sensible.

The Bottom Line

Bottom line: Buy the Standard edition if collecting Hot Wheels cars, exploring four islands, building tracks, and playing arcade races matter more to you than instant transitions. Wait or compare another platform if 60 fps, minimal loading, and consistently polished performance are essential.
