Harry Potter: Defenders of Hogwarts is a multiplayer physical tabletop game, not a single-player video game. It is designed for a group in which one person takes the Dark Arts role and the other participants represent Hogwarts Houses. The listed setup supports two to five players, with a stated playing time of 90 minutes and age guidance of 13 or older.
The direct answer: it is a multiplayer board game
Defenders of Hogwarts is a MinaLima tabletop game played with physical components. It is not a solo computer or console title, and it is not presented as a single-player role-playing game. To play the published game as intended, you need at least two people: one player assigned to the Dark Arts side and at least one player representing a Hogwarts House.

That distinction matters when you are deciding whether to buy it. Someone looking for a game they can launch alone on a PC, console or phone will not find that format here. Someone looking for a group tabletop session with a Harry Potter theme is looking at the right category.
Player count, age and time at a glance
| Specification | What is established | What it means for a buyer |
|---|---|---|
| Format | Physical MinaLima tabletop board game | You need the boxed components and a place to play; it is not a digital download. |
| Players | 2–5 | The minimum session uses one Dark Arts player and one Hogwarts House player. |
| Roles | One Dark Arts role; remaining players represent Hogwarts Houses | The table is divided into two sides rather than giving every participant the same role. |
| Listed duration | 90 minutes | Plan for a substantial tabletop session. The listing is a guide, not a guarantee that every group will finish in exactly that time. |
| Age guidance | 13+ | Use the published age recommendation when deciding whether it suits younger players. |
The player count, duration and age guidance are the specifications reported by an independent guide that says it checked MinaLima’s rulebook on October 11, 2026. They should be treated as the currently documented listing rather than a promise about your group’s pace.

How the multiplayer roles work
One person plays the Dark Arts side
The rules assign one participant to the Dark Arts role. That is not an optional character label added by a house rule; it is part of the published player structure. In a two-player session, this person is paired directly against the single Hogwarts House player.
The other participants represent Hogwarts Houses
Every remaining participant takes the Hogwarts House side. With more than two people, the game therefore places one Dark Arts player opposite several House representatives. The role split creates an asymmetric table: not everyone is simply choosing a different wizard and following an identical player script.
The available material establishes the roles and player allocation, but it does not establish every turn, combat, card or scoring rule. For those details, use the rulebook supplied with the edition you purchase. Avoid assuming that a description of the theme tells you how a particular action resolves.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteWhat “multiplayer” means here—and what it does not mean
In this context, multiplayer means several people physically sharing one tabletop game. It does not mean online matchmaking, a networked video-game mode or a game server that lets remote players join. The publisher describes Defenders of Hogwarts as a tabletop game, and the documented components are physical.

- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (5-in-1, 4K HDMI), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
It also should not be confused with a solo variant. The published player range begins at two, and the role assignment requires a Dark Arts participant plus a House participant. Unless a later edition adds a clearly labeled solo rule, playing alone would be an unofficial adaptation rather than the documented format.
Likewise, “RPG” is not a reliable format description by itself. A fan or retailer may use wording such as “Harry Potter Defenders RPG game,” but the supported identity here is a physical board game. Check the product description and rulebook rather than inferring a digital role-playing game from casual terminology.
Choosing the right group size
Two players
Two is the minimum listed group. One person takes Dark Arts and the other takes a Hogwarts House. This is the clearest option if you want a head-to-head session without coordinating a larger gathering.

Three to five players
Adding players increases the number of people on the Hogwarts House side while the Dark Arts role remains assigned to one participant. That makes the seating arrangement different from a game in which every player controls an independent faction. Before buying, make sure your group is comfortable with that asymmetry and with one person occupying the opposing role for the session.

Groups larger than five
The documented range stops at five. A group of six or more would be outside the stated player count, so do not treat the listed duration or balance as applying to an unofficial expansion of the table.
How long should you set aside?
The published listing gives a 90-minute duration. Use that as a planning estimate: reserve enough uninterrupted time for setup, rules explanation and play rather than scheduling it as a short filler game. New players may need additional time to read the rulebook and understand the role division, while an experienced group may move differently. The available evidence does not establish a measured average, a minimum session length or a separate setup time.
If your group has a hard stop, agree on that before opening the box and consult the rulebook for any official end-of-game procedure. Do not assume that stopping at the 90-minute mark is automatically a complete game.
Age guidance and suitability
The listed age guidance is 13+. That is the publisher or listing’s suitability signal, not a statement that every 13-year-old will find the rules easy. Consider reading the rulebook before inviting younger players, especially if your group includes people unfamiliar with strategic tabletop games.

The material available for this title does not provide a separate content rating, reading-level assessment or accessibility statement. If your group needs large-print components, language-specific rules, simplified explanations or other accommodations, confirm those details with the seller or publisher for the exact edition.
Board game or video game: a practical comparison
| Question | Defenders of Hogwarts | What to look for if you wanted a video game instead |
|---|---|---|
| Where is it played? | At a physical table with the boxed game | A supported PC, console or mobile platform would need to be stated by that product. |
| How do players join? | People share the same tabletop session | Online or local digital multiplayer would need explicit platform documentation. |
| Can one person play the documented format? | Not within the listed two-player minimum | A solo mode would need to be identified in that game’s rules. |
| How are sides assigned? | One Dark Arts player; remaining participants are Hogwarts Houses | A digital title could use different teams, but that cannot be assumed from this game. |
This comparison is about format, not quality. The game’s campaign popularity does not turn it into a video game, and a digital Harry Potter title would not automatically reproduce these tabletop roles.

Availability is time-sensitive. MinaLima’s Kickstarter campaign identifies the product as its tabletop game, provides an order route and shows late-pledge options. The campaign page was last updated October 8, 2026. A separate fan-site report updated October 10, 2026 described a limited retail release through selected online retailers, House of MinaLima locations and Harry Potter Shops beginning in autumn 2026, with a planned multi-language global release in spring 2027.

Campaign figures: useful context, not a quality score
The Kickstarter campaign page reported 10,959 backers and £1,313,755 pledged as of its October 8, 2026 update. Those are campaign totals. They show the scale of the crowdfunding response, but they do not independently measure game quality, sales after the campaign, player satisfaction or long-term availability.
MinaLima co-founder Eduardo Lima was quoted in an October 2026 report saying, “With Defenders of Hogwarts, we saw the potential to create a truly unique wizarding experience for fans.” Miraphora Mina was also quoted discussing play as central to MinaLima’s work. The latter quotation is reproduced by secondary reporting; treat both as creator statements about the project, not as evidence that the game is single-player, universally accessible or guaranteed to suit your group.
Optional sleeves and token upgrades
The campaign’s late-pledge page lists optional physical items, including a card-sleeve set and a wooden token upgrade set for certain tiers. Nothing in the available information establishes that these extras are required to play. Their availability as standalone retail products, compatibility with third-party accessories and inclusion in ordinary retail boxes were not established.
Buy the base game first unless the exact listing clearly identifies an accessory bundle you want. Do not assume that a pledge-level upgrade will be sold separately later, and do not treat upgraded tokens or sleeves as evidence of a different rules edition.
