No—GTA 6 has not been confirmed for Nintendo Switch 2. The Rockstar and Nintendo materials reviewed do not verify a Switch 2 edition, and the Nintendo executive comment implied by the headline has not been identified. A former Rockstar developer has shared an opinion about a possible port, but that is not an official platform announcement.
Has Nintendo confirmed GTA 6 for Switch 2?
No attributable Nintendo statement confirming GTA 6 for Switch 2 has been identified. Without a named executive, exact quote, date, and original interview or official publication, the headline’s claim should not be treated as a verified Nintendo announcement.

Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa described Switch 2 as “the next step in at-home gaming that can be taken on the go based on eight years of play and discovery that began with Nintendo Switch” in Nintendo’s April 2, 2025 launch announcement. That statement concerns the console, not GTA 6.

What do Rockstar’s official materials say about a Switch 2 version?
The official Grand Theft Auto VI page reviewed for this article did not establish a Switch 2 edition. That means the reviewed material does not confirm a port; it does not prove Rockstar will never release one. Any future platform plans would need to be confirmed by the publisher.

Does Switch 2 backward compatibility mean GTA 6 will work?
No. Nintendo says Switch 2 can play Nintendo Switch games, but warns that some titles may be unsupported or not fully compatible. Its compatibility guidance directs players to the third-party publisher for game-specific information. Backward compatibility for eligible Switch games does not announce or establish a native GTA 6 version.
What Switch 2 hardware facts are relevant?
Nintendo’s April 2025 announcement says Switch 2 has improved CPU and GPU performance compared with the original Switch, a 7.9-inch built-in 1080p LCD, and 256 GB of internal storage. These are specifications, not proof that GTA 6 has been ported or confirmed for the system. Without an announcement or technical details from the publisher, there is no basis here to claim what resolution, frame rate, or other compromises a hypothetical version would have.

Nintendo’s shareholder-meeting notice says Switch 2 launched on June 5, 2025, and describes it as the successor to Switch, with compatible Switch games and third-party titles discussed generally. That broad platform context is not a game-specific GTA 6 commitment: Nintendo’s 85th Ordinary General Meeting of Shareholders notice.

GamesRadar+ reported on September 25, 2026 that Jérémy Hartvick, a former Rockstar open-world designer who reportedly worked on GTA 6 from 2017 through 2020, did not think a Switch 2 port made sense for its audience. The report quotes him saying, “I don’t believe it even makes sense, because I’m not sure the audience for GTA 6 is so much the audience for the Switch,” and, “If you’re a GTA fan, you would probably buy a console on which GTA will come out.”

Quick Recap
How to read claims about GTA 6 and Switch 2
- Official confirmation: Look for an attributable announcement from Nintendo or the game’s publisher.
- General console information: Backward compatibility rules and hardware specifications do not establish support for a particular unreleased or unannounced version.
- Commentary: A former employee’s view can offer perspective, but it does not confirm a company decision.
