Yes—Gran Turismo 7 is worth buying on PS5 if you want a detailed circuit-racing simulator built around collecting cars, tuning them and progressing through structured events. The Standard Edition is the sensible starting point for most players. Digital Deluxe adds presentation bonuses and extra credits rather than a substantial campaign expansion, while the separate Power Pack is aimed at players who specifically want long endurance races and complete race-weekend formats.
The important qualification is connectivity: PlayStation Plus is required for online multiplayer, but an internet connection is needed for most of the game’s functionality. Official product information says that, while offline, only Arcade Mode is available. GT7 is therefore a poor choice for someone seeking an offline-first or purely arcade racer.

What Gran Turismo 7 is on PS5
Gran Turismo 7 is a driving simulator and collection game rather than a short arcade racer. Its core loop combines circuit events, license and driving-school exercises, car collecting, mechanical tuning, visual customization, photography and online competition. The PS5 version also uses DualSense features such as adaptive triggers and haptic feedback to communicate braking, grip and road texture.
PlayStation lists more than 420 cars, 37 tracks and 110 layouts. Those figures describe the breadth of the available roster and venues, not a promise that every item is immediately unlocked. Progression, event requirements and in-game credits determine what you can access as you advance.

Who should hesitate
- Anyone who needs the complete solo experience to work without an internet connection.
- Players who mainly want simple pick-up-and-play arcade handling.
- Buyers who dislike collecting, menus, tuning or structured progression.
- People unwilling to pay for PS Plus when they want online multiplayer.
Which PS5 edition should you buy?
The US PlayStation Store lists two principal editions, and the physical PS5 release is the disc-based form of the Standard Edition. Prices and stock change, so treat the figures below as the listed US prices at the time reflected by the product page, not permanent global pricing.
| Edition or option | Platform entitlement | What is included | Listed US price | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Standard Edition | PS4 and PS5 entitlement on the digital listing; a PS5 disc edition is also listed | Base game and 750,000 in-game credits | $69.99 | Most new PS5 buyers |
| Digital Deluxe Edition | Dual PS4/PS5 entitlement | Base game, additional credits, a special Toyota GR Yaris, 30 avatars and the official soundtrack | $89.99 | Players who specifically want the digital bonuses |
| PS4-to-PS5 upgrade | Existing PS4 Standard Edition owners can obtain the PS5 digital Standard Edition at a discounted upgrade price | PS5 digital version tied to the qualifying PS4 purchase | Current upgrade price is not stated in the supplied product information | People who already own the PS4 Standard Edition |
| Power Pack | PS5 only | 50 races in 20 themed categories, endurance events, full practice/qualifying/race weekends, Gran Turismo Sophy 3.0 AI and 5,000,000 in-game credits | $29.99 | Players seeking longer, more structured race weekends |
Use the table as a decision guide rather than assuming the highest-priced option is the best value. A sale can change the gap between Standard and Deluxe, while a physical copy may be preferable if you want to lend or resell it. Digital ownership is more convenient on a disc-free PS5, but it cannot be resold. Check the store in your region because the prices above are US observations and availability can differ.
Standard Edition: the default recommendation
Standard includes the complete base game and is the clearest value test. It gives you access to the game’s principal modes, car collection, tuning systems, progression and ongoing free updates without charging for cosmetic extras. Unless you already know that the Deluxe bonuses matter to you, start here.
Digital Deluxe: extras, not a larger campaign
Digital Deluxe includes the same core game with digital additions: extra in-game credits, a special Toyota GR Yaris, 30 avatar items and the soundtrack. These are bonuses for collectors and fans of the series, not a major gameplay expansion. Choose it when those items justify the price difference for you; do not expect a substantially different campaign or a separate set of tracks.
Physical PS5 disc versus digital purchase
The official GT product page lists a PS5 Standard Edition disc. A disc is useful if you prefer physical ownership, resale or lending, but it requires a PS5 with a disc drive. A disc-free PS5 Digital Edition cannot use that physical copy. The disc is also a practical choice for buyers who find a lower retail price than the current digital listing, although stock and discounts vary by retailer.
What happens if you own the PS4 version?
Owners of the PS4 Standard Edition can buy the PS5 digital Standard Edition at a discounted upgrade price. If your PS4 copy is on disc, you must insert that disc each time you download or play the PS5 digital version. The PS4 disc cannot be used for this upgrade on a PS5 Digital Edition without a disc drive. This makes the upgrade practical for disc-equipped consoles, but not a workaround for a digital-only PS5.
Before paying for a second copy, check whether your existing PS4 license qualifies and whether you want a digital PS5 entitlement. The upgrade information does not state a universal price, so look at the current store offer rather than assuming a fixed discount.

Spec III free update
Sony identifies Spec III as a free update for owners of GT7. Its additions include eight cars, two tracks, a higher Collector Level cap, unlimited Brand Central invitations and a Data Logger, along with other content. Because this is an update to the existing game, a Standard Edition owner receives it without buying a new edition.
The higher Collector Level cap matters mainly to long-term players who have already built a substantial garage. Unlimited Brand Central invitations remove a restriction that could otherwise affect access to certain manufacturers, while the Data Logger gives drivers another way to examine their performance. These additions expand the existing systems; they do not turn the game into a different genre or replace the base progression.
Update 1.71
The official PlayStation page lists update 1.71, dated August 19, 2026, as adding four cars, three World Circuits and a new Scapes curation. Update numbers and contents are time-sensitive; check the latest official GT news before downloading or buying based on a particular feature.

Free-update support is useful when judging longevity, but it should not be treated as a promise of a fixed future roadmap. Cars, tracks, ratings, prices and store listings can change. The sensible approach is to buy the edition that suits the content available now and regard later updates as additional value.
Power Pack: what the $29.99 add-on changes
Power Pack is separate paid DLC and is listed as available only for the PS5 version. It adds 50 races arranged across 20 themed categories, 24-hour endurance racing, complete practice, qualifying and race-weekend structures, Gran Turismo Sophy 3.0 AI and 5,000,000 in-game credits. Access requires update 1.65 and Menu Book No. 9.
The package is most relevant if you want events that resemble a full motorsport weekend rather than short races. It is not required for the base campaign, the main car-collection experience or the free updates. Buy it after you understand that format, rather than treating it as a prerequisite for enjoying GT7.
How to decide on the add-on
- Buy Power Pack: endurance racing, qualifying and race strategy are central to what you want from the game.
- Skip it initially: you are still working through the base progression, mainly want varied cars and tracks, or prefer shorter sessions.
- Check prerequisites: install update 1.65 and reach Menu Book No. 9 before expecting access.
Power Pack’s $29.99 price should be considered on top of the base-game cost, not as an alternative edition. If the race-weekend structure is your main attraction, it may be worthwhile; if you mostly want collecting, tuning, Driving School or ordinary circuit events, the Standard Edition is the more economical starting point.
Internet connection, PS Plus and offline play
There are two separate requirements that are easy to confuse:
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
| Requirement | What it controls | What the official information says |
|---|---|---|
| Internet connection | Most of the game’s functionality, including the connected game experience | PlayStation says an internet connection is required for most functionality. |
| PlayStation Plus | Online multiplayer | Online play is optional, but PS Plus is required for online play; the game supports up to 20 online players with PS Plus. |
| No internet connection | Limited offline access | Official Gran Turismo product information states that, while offline, only Arcade Mode is available. |
What you can expect without PS Plus
You do not need PS Plus for the entire game. PS Plus is tied to online multiplayer, so a player can use the game’s broader connected modes without subscribing to multiplayer service only when an internet connection is available and the relevant functionality permits it. Do not read “PS Plus required for online play” as “PS Plus required to launch every mode.”
In other words, PS Plus is a subscription cost to add online multiplayer, not a second purchase required simply to own Standard or Deluxe. A buyer who intends to race alone should budget for the game and a reliable connection, but not automatically for PS Plus.
What you can expect without internet access
The limitation is much more significant. The official wording restricts offline access to Arcade Mode, so you should not buy GT7 expecting a fully playable offline campaign. In practical terms, a reliable connection matters even if you intend to race alone most of the time.
This is the most important compatibility check for households with intermittent broadband, strict network restrictions or a preference for disconnected play. Arcade Mode may cover quick races, but it does not represent the full progression, collecting and connected feature set described for GT7.

Online player count
PlayStation lists support for up to 20 online players with PS Plus. That describes the supported online capacity, not a guarantee that every lobby will contain 20 people or that matchmaking conditions will always be identical.

How the main modes affect value
Campaign-style progression
Structured progression gives the game a sense of direction: you acquire cars, complete events and unlock further activities. This suits players who want goals beyond repeatedly selecting a quick race. It also means GT7 is not designed as an entirely open menu of every car and track from the first launch.
Arcade Mode
Arcade is the mode explicitly available while offline. It is useful for quick races and basic driving sessions, but it does not represent the full connected GT7 experience. If Arcade is the only mode you need, the connectivity limitation may be less important; if you want progression and the wider feature set, plan to keep the console online.
Driving School
Driving School focuses on technique and controlled exercises. It is a good fit for beginners who need help with braking points, lines and car control, and for experienced players who want measurable practice rather than unstructured laps.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Sport mode
Sport mode is the competitive side of the game for players who want scheduled or organized online racing. It naturally depends on the online infrastructure and therefore on the PS Plus requirement for multiplayer.
Collecting, tuning and customization
The garage and tuning systems are central rather than decorative. Collecting gives long-term goals, while tuning lets you adapt cars for different events. Customization and photography add non-racing activities for players who enjoy presenting their cars as much as driving them.
PS5-specific considerations
DualSense features
PlayStation highlights DualSense haptics as part of the PS5 experience. Feedback through the controller can make braking, curbs and changes in surface feel more immediate than a basic controller implementation. These features improve immersion, but they do not change the game’s fundamental requirement for circuit-racing interest.
Optional PlayStation VR2
PlayStation VR2 is optional for GT7 generally and required only to experience its VR features. You do not need the headset to play the standard PS5 version, complete progression or use ordinary online modes. Consider VR2 only if virtual-reality driving is a specific reason you are buying the game; it is not a prerequisite accessory.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteValue, longevity and current evidence
Content scale
The listed roster of over 420 cars, 37 tracks and 110 layouts gives GT7 unusually broad scope for a console racing game. The value comes from learning, collecting and revisiting content with different vehicles and setups, not simply counting one-time missions.
Ongoing support
Spec III and later updates show that the product continues to receive additions after launch. The exact update schedule, available content and prices can change, so verify the current version and store listing before purchase.
Store rating and series scale
The US PlayStation Store showed a 4.37 out of 5 customer rating from 46,057 ratings in an observed 2026 snapshot. That is a live user rating, not a critic score, and both the average and count can change. Sony Interactive Entertainment and PlayStation also report that the Gran Turismo series surpassed 100 million units sold worldwide in 2025. Neither figure proves that GT7 suits every player, but both provide context for its audience and continuing support.
What the price really buys
The base price buys a large, evolving racing package, but value depends on how often you will return to it. A player who enjoys improving laps, collecting cars and experimenting with setups can spread that cost across many sessions. Someone seeking a short arcade campaign may use only a small part of the available content. Add the Power Pack’s $29.99 only when its endurance and race-weekend format matches your habits, and remember that PS Plus is an additional recurring cost if you want online multiplayer.
A practical buying decision
Choose Standard Edition when
- You are new to GT7 and want the complete base experience.
- You want to spend as little as possible before deciding whether the simulator style suits you.
- You prefer a physical PS5 disc or do not care about the Deluxe digital bonuses.
- You want access to free updates without paying for a separate content package.
Choose Digital Deluxe when
- You specifically value the special Toyota GR Yaris, avatar set, soundtrack and extra credits.
- You want dual PS4/PS5 digital entitlement and are comfortable paying more for presentation extras.
- You would otherwise buy the listed digital bonuses separately in spirit, even though they do not create a larger campaign.
Add Power Pack when
- You want 24-hour endurance races and full practice, qualifying and race sessions.
- You are interested in the themed 50-race structure and Gran Turismo Sophy 3.0 AI.
- You meet the update 1.65 and Menu Book No. 9 access requirements.
- You are comfortable paying $29.99 on top of the base game for PS5-only content.
Wait or skip when
- Your connection is unreliable and you need a complete offline campaign.
- You mainly want an arcade racer with immediate access to everything.
- The current price is close to launch pricing but you are not interested in Deluxe bonuses or Power Pack’s race-weekend format.
- You are buying for a disc-free PS5 but have found only the physical edition.
Bottom-line recommendation
For a PS5 owner who enjoys realistic circuit racing, collecting and tuning, Gran Turismo 7 is a strong purchase. Start with Standard Edition, confirm the current regional price and understand that the broader game requires an internet connection. Treat PS Plus as an online-multiplayer requirement, not a requirement for every mode. Add Power Pack only when endurance and complete race weekends are exactly what you want, and regard PlayStation VR2 as optional hardware for a separate VR experience.
