Its repository says it does not distribute the retail ROM, though some build or extraction steps require legally obtained game data. That distinction matters: a third-party download that bundles a GoldenEye ROM is not an official part of Plus and raises copyright and security concerns. The project page is not an independent malware audit, and the law on personally dumping or using a ROM can depend on where you live.
What is GoldenEye 007 Plus?
The project repository describes Plus as an enhanced fork of the GoldenEye 007 N64 decompilation. Its stated aims include optimization, co-op and multiplayer features, third-person play, quality-of-life changes, and experimental map creation. The repository describes a development tree through checkpoint V90 dated September 28, 2026. These are descriptions from the project itself, not an endorsement by Nintendo or a guarantee about every file circulating under the Plus name. View the GoldenEye 007 Plus repository.

Does GoldenEye 007 Plus include the ROM?
No, according to the project’s repository: “No original retail ROM is distributed by this project.” It says its repository contains source code and project material, and that legally obtained retail game data may be needed for upstream build or asset-extraction steps. The upstream GoldenEye decompilation repository likewise says a prior copy of the game is required to extract assets.

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
That means you should distinguish project software or source from the copyrighted game data it may need. A website offering “Plus” together with a ready-to-use GoldenEye ROM is not offering something the Plus repository says it distributes.
#1 Best Overall
- This authentic renewed game will not come with the original case or manual; cartridge only.
- It has been cleaned, tested, and is in nice condition.
- This game is an authentic copy.
Is downloading a GoldenEye ROM legal?
Nintendo of America says in its official support FAQ that games shared through third-party platforms or peer-to-peer networks are unauthorized copies, and states: “The uploading and downloading of pirate copies of Nintendo games is illegal.” This is Nintendo’s published position; it is not a jurisdiction-by-jurisdiction legal ruling about every personal backup, emulator, or mod scenario.
The sources here do not establish a universal rule for whether making or using a personal dump is lawful where you live. Owning a cartridge does not, on its own, settle that question. For a legal determination, consult reliable guidance for your jurisdiction rather than assuming that ownership automatically authorizes every copy or use.

Is the Plus download safe?
The repository identifies the project’s stated source, but that is not an independent security audit. The available project information does not establish that every release binary has been scanned or is malware-free. A familiar project name on an unrelated download page is not proof that the file came from the maintainers.
- Start from the maintainer’s canonical GitHub repository, and verify that any release or source archive is linked from there.
- Avoid third-party packages that include a GoldenEye ROM or make unclear claims about where game data came from.
- Use your normal security tools to inspect downloads and be cautious with executables from mirrors. A clean scan can reduce risk, but it does not prove a file is safe or that its contents are legally distributed.
Can you use your own copy of GoldenEye 007 with Plus?
The Plus repository says legally obtained retail game data is needed where the upstream build or extraction process requires it. That describes a technical dependency; it does not decide whether a particular cartridge dump or use is lawful in your location. The upstream decompilation project also makes clear that its workflow uses a prior game copy to extract assets.

- If you receive a faulty product, please feel free to contact us and we will provide you with an unconditional refund!
Compatibility requirements can be specific to a project’s build and release. Do not assume that instructions or ROM-region support for another GoldenEye project apply to Plus. For example, the separate GoldenEye 007 PC Port README describes its v0.4.0 release as requiring a user-provided ROM, with NTSC-U supported and PAL and Japanese ROMs recognized but not yet supported. Those version-specific details concern that separate port, not Plus.
Quick Recap
How to assess a GoldenEye 007 Plus download
- Open the canonical Plus repository and confirm the project identity and maintainer before downloading.
- Check whether the item is source/project material or a package that includes copyrighted game data. The repository says it does not distribute the original retail ROM.
- Do not download a ROM from a third-party link. Nintendo describes unauthorized copies shared through third-party and peer-to-peer sources as illegal.
- Review the release provenance and scan downloaded files with your security software, while recognizing that neither step proves a binary is risk-free.
- Check local law for questions about personal backups, ROM use, and modifications; the project README and Nintendo FAQ do not resolve every jurisdiction’s rules.
