Yes. Gears of War: E-Day is available now on Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass. The worldwide launch was October 6, 2026, so it is no longer an upcoming Game Pass release. Premium Edition buyers received up to five days of early access beginning October 1.
You can play on Xbox Series X|S or Windows PC, with Xbox Play Anywhere support for shared progression and achievements. Xbox also lists cloud gaming through Game Pass Ultimate and names GeForce NOW as another cloud route, although a GeForce NOW subscription is separate from Game Pass.

Which Game Pass plans include Gears of War: E-Day?
Xbox’s official Gears of War: E-Day FAQ identifies two qualifying plans: Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass. If you have either plan, you can access the game from its October 6, 2026 launch rather than buying a separate Standard or Premium copy.
The FAQ does not list every Game Pass plan as including the game. In particular, do not assume that a lower-priced console plan automatically grants access simply because it carries the Game Pass name. Check the plan shown in your Microsoft account and compare it with the two tiers Xbox explicitly names.

Game Pass Ultimate
Ultimate is the broadest route for this game. It covers the Xbox console version, the Windows PC version, and the cloud-gaming option Xbox identifies for Ultimate members. It is also the relevant Game Pass tier if you want to use the subscription’s online-multiplayer entitlement for the game’s connected modes.
PC Game Pass
PC Game Pass is the named subscription for Windows PC players. It gives members access to the PC version at the general launch date, October 6, 2026. PC Game Pass access should be distinguished from buying the PC release on Steam: Steam is a separate storefront, while the Game Pass entitlement is tied to the Microsoft subscription and its supported PC installation route.
When did the game become playable?
The dates are different depending on how you obtained the game. The Coalition’s launch announcement gave the worldwide times as 8:00 a.m. Pacific Time (15:00 UTC) on each date.

As of October 17, 2026, the relevant status is “available now.” The October 1 date was not the Game Pass launch; it was the Premium Edition early-access start.
Where can you play it?
Xbox lists Gears of War: E-Day for Xbox Series X|S and Windows PC. The PC release is offered through the Microsoft Store, and Xbox’s launch coverage also identifies Steam as a PC distribution option for people purchasing the game outright.

Xbox Play Anywhere
Xbox says the game supports Play Anywhere. When you use the supported Xbox and PC versions with the same Microsoft account, progression and achievements carry between those versions. This is useful if you play on a Series X|S at home and a Windows PC elsewhere, but it does not turn a Steam purchase into a Microsoft Store or Game Pass license.

How to start playing with Game Pass
The exact screen wording can change as Xbox updates its apps, but the process follows the normal Game Pass installation flow.

Sign in at the Microsoft account that holds Game Pass Ultimate or PC Game Pass. On a console, open your subscription settings; on Windows, check the Xbox app account menu. If the active plan is not one of the two tiers named by Xbox, resolve that before troubleshooting the installation.
- Open the right catalog. On Xbox Series X|S, open the Game Pass section and search for Gears of War: E-Day. On Windows, open the Xbox app, sign in to the same account, and search the PC Game Pass catalog.
- Select the Game Pass install option. Choose the listing that identifies Game Pass access rather than a store button for a separately priced edition. Review the selected drive or console storage location before confirming.
- Install updates before launching. Allow the Xbox console or Xbox app to finish the base installation and any launch-day updates. A listing that appears in the catalog does not mean every update has finished downloading.
- Use the same account for play. Launch while signed in to the account with the qualifying subscription. If several profiles share a console, verify which profile owns the subscription and which profile is starting the game.
- For cloud play, choose the cloud control. Game Pass Ultimate members can use the cloud option where Xbox offers it. A cloud session avoids a local installation, but it depends on the service’s regional availability, network quality and current capacity.
What do the editions cost if you prefer to buy the game?
Buying a copy is an alternative to maintaining a qualifying subscription. The Xbox product page listed the following U.S. prices; these are listed prices and can change, so check the store at checkout.

The Premium benefits explain the October 1 start date. They are purchase bonuses, not an earlier Game Pass date: Ultimate and PC Game Pass members joined on October 6.
Does Game Pass cover online multiplayer?
Xbox states that online campaign co-op, Horde Siege, Versus and other multiplayer features require a Game Pass subscription that includes online multiplayer, sold separately. In practical terms, having the game in the catalog and having the online-multiplayer entitlement are related but distinct checks. If a multiplayer menu is unavailable, verify both the game license and the online feature of the subscription on the account being used.
Two-player split-screen is listed as console-only. A Windows PC installation should therefore not be treated as supporting the same split-screen arrangement. Online co-op remains a separate multiplayer mode, subject to the subscription and connection requirements.

- Access to the base game while the account has Game Pass Ultimate or PC Game Pass.
- Game Pass launch access from October 6, 2026, rather than the Premium Edition’s October 1 early-access window.
- Supported console or PC installation according to the plan and device.
- Play Anywhere progression and achievement synchronization when using the supported Xbox and PC versions with the same account.
Not automatically included
- Premium Edition early access or its cosmetic and currency bonuses.
- A permanent ownership license after the subscription ends.
- A Steam license simply because you have PC Game Pass.
- Every form of multiplayer access regardless of the subscription’s online-multiplayer terms.
- A guaranteed cloud session in every region or on every service that mentions the game.
Troubleshooting common access problems
The game appears but asks me to buy it
First check that the signed-in account has Game Pass Ultimate or PC Game Pass, not an unlisted plan or an expired subscription. Sign out and back in to the Xbox app or console profile, then refresh the Game Pass catalog. On Windows, make sure the Xbox app and Microsoft Store are using the same Microsoft account; mismatched accounts can make the catalog and license disagree.

I expected to play on October 1
October 1 was the Premium Edition early-access date. Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass access began on October 6, the worldwide launch. A subscription does not provide the Premium Edition’s five-day head start.
The PC version is not showing in the Xbox app
Confirm that the PC is running a supported Windows setup for the Xbox app, that the app is updated, and that the account has PC Game Pass or Ultimate. Searching the Steam store will not validate a Game Pass license because Steam and the Microsoft PC catalog are separate purchase and entitlement systems.
Cloud play is unavailable
Cloud access requires Ultimate for the Game Pass route named by Xbox and can also be affected by country, service availability, account status and network conditions. If the cloud button is missing, test the installed console or PC version first, then verify that the account and region meet the cloud service’s current requirements.

Multiplayer is locked after installation
Installation confirms the game entitlement, not necessarily the online-multiplayer entitlement. Check the subscription’s online benefits, confirm that the correct profile is signed in, and verify that the game and console or PC have completed all updates.
