Yes—but the connection needs a precise explanation. STAR WARS: Galactic Racer is an official Star Wars game made by Fuse Games in close collaboration with Lucasfilm Games. It uses the Star Wars galaxy, includes locations and characters familiar from the films, and is set after the Empire’s fall while the New Republic rebuilds. It is not a retelling of a Star Wars movie, and the official announcements available for the game do not explicitly classify its story as canon.
What “connected to the movies” means
There are two different questions hidden inside “Is Galactic Racer connected to the Star Wars movies?” The first is whether the game officially belongs to the Star Wars universe and uses film-established material. The answer is clearly yes. The second is whether Lucasfilm has formally declared the game’s events part of the current Star Wars canon. The official launch and product material do not make that declaration.

Fuse Games announced the project as a new Star Wars racing adventure created in close collaboration with Lucasfilm Games. The game is published by Secret Mode, and its official descriptions use the Star Wars setting rather than an original universe that merely borrows science-fiction imagery.
StarWars.com’s launch coverage specifically identifies Jakku as familiar from The Force Awakens and Crait as familiar to The Last Jedi fans. The same coverage mentions Sebulba, the podracer associated with The Phantom Menace. Those are direct links to movie locations and characters, not just visual similarities.

Is Galactic Racer a Star Wars movie adaptation?
No. The game is an original racing story rather than a playable version of one film’s plot. You do not replay the Battle of Crait, recreate the events on Jakku from The Force Awakens, or follow Anakin Skywalker’s podracing storyline from The Phantom Menace. Instead, the movies provide part of the setting and history while the game follows its own racers, rivalries and underground league.
That distinction matters if you are deciding what kind of Star Wars experience to expect. The recognizable planets and Sebulba connection provide continuity with the films, but the central activity is high-speed racing, route selection and repeated runs through a campaign. The story is designed around a new protagonist and original conflicts.
Is Galactic Racer canon?
The safest answer is: the official material establishes it as an official Star Wars game, but does not expressly give it a canon label. Lucasfilm Games collaboration, Star Wars branding, recognizable planets and returning characters demonstrate an official connection to the franchise. They do not, by themselves, establish where every game event sits in the formal canon hierarchy.

Fuse Games’ announcement likewise confirms the Lucasfilm Games collaboration but does not issue a canon ruling. Therefore, it is accurate to call Galactic Racer an official Star Wars game with movie-connected locations and characters. It is not accurate to present an unannounced canon status as settled fact.
This wording also leaves room for future clarification. Lucasfilm could define the game’s continuity later, but the launch information does not do so. Until an official source gives that specific designation, treat the game’s film connections as established setting and character links rather than proof of a formal canon placement.

When does Galactic Racer take place?
The broad period is after the Empire’s fall. The New Republic is rebuilding, and an underground racing circuit known as the Galactic League has formed in the Outer Rim. Steam’s game description uses the same post-Empire rebuilding premise. Neither cited official description provides an exact in-universe calendar year, so there is no supported year to place on a timeline.
This period gives the game room to use familiar Star Wars history without retelling a film. Imperial control has ended, but the galaxy is not stable. New institutions are still taking shape, remote systems remain dangerous and independent groups can operate outside the structures of the New Republic. An underground racing league fits that unsettled transition.

The Galactic League
The League is presented as a high-stakes racing circuit in the Outer Rim. It is not simply a public sporting championship with standardized rules. The campaign’s rivalries, risks and route choices are tied to the League’s underground nature, giving races consequences beyond finishing position.
Shade’s role
You play as Shade, a racer drawn into the League and its rivalries. The launch material names Kestar Bool and a conflict involving the Bool family, along with Hibi, Shade’s mechanic. Sebulba also has a role in the game’s launch story. These characters create a new narrative around racing rather than placing the player in the role of a movie hero.
Which movie-connected places and characters appear?
| Element | Movie connection | How it functions in the game |
|---|---|---|
| Jakku | Identified by StarWars.com as familiar from The Force Awakens. | One of the recognizable Star Wars settings used within the racing adventure. |
| Crait | Described as familiar to The Last Jedi fans. | A film-linked location within the game’s route and event selection. |
| Tatooine | A long-established Star Wars world associated with the films and podracing culture. | One of the settings referenced in the official game descriptions. |
| Sebulba | The returning podracer is associated with The Phantom Menace. | Appears in the game’s launch coverage as part of the racing world and its rivalries. |
The table shows why the answer is more substantial than “it has a Star Wars logo.” The game draws on named film locations and a recognizable film character. At the same time, the available descriptions do not say that every race or story event recreates a scene from those movies.

What kind of game is it?
Galactic Racer is a runs-based racing adventure. You pilot several kinds of repulsorcraft, make decisions during events, and improve or customize your builds over the course of a campaign. The official descriptions emphasize a mixture of speed, tactical choices and risk management rather than a conventional race calendar alone.

The launch information names landspeeders, speeder bikes, skim speeders and podracers. These are not merely cosmetic vehicle swaps. The official game page describes distinct repulsorcraft classes with different tactical advantages, so choosing a craft is part of preparing for an event.
Routes, risks and takedowns
Events can include branching routes and risk-reward decisions. A shorter or more dangerous line may offer an advantage, while a safer choice can preserve a run. Takedowns add direct competition between racers, making positioning and timing important in addition to raw speed.
Build customization
Customizable builds let you tune how a craft approaches an event. The descriptions do not reduce customization to a single upgrade path; they frame it as part of deciding how to handle different routes, opponents and race conditions. Expect to choose a setup that matches your preferred balance of speed, control and survivability rather than assuming one universal build is best.
How the runs-based campaign works
The campaign is described as high stakes and runs-based. In practical terms, a run is a sequence of selected events in which decisions and performance determine how far you progress. The launch article says certain perks and unlocks carry over between runs, so failure does not erase all progress.

- Choose an event. The Campaign mode presents events and routes rather than forcing one uninterrupted movie-style sequence.
- Select a craft and build. Match the repulsorcraft class and customization choices to the event’s demands.
- Race and manage risk. Use routes, takedowns and other tactical decisions to improve the outcome of the current run.
- Carry progress forward. Perks and unlocks that persist between runs help develop future attempts.
- Continue the rivalry-driven story. Shade’s relationship with the League, Kestar Bool, the Bool family and Hibi gives the campaign narrative context beyond individual races.
This structure is why the game should not be approached as a straight movie adaptation. Repeated runs, persistent unlocks and branching event choices are core systems, not side activities added around a fixed film plot.
Which modes are included?
StarWars.com’s launch coverage lists three launch modes:
- Campaign: the story-driven, runs-based adventure following Shade and the Galactic League’s rivalries.
- Scenario: a mode built around specific race situations or challenges rather than the full campaign progression.
- Arcade: a more direct racing option for playing events without relying on the campaign structure.
The official descriptions also mention solo play and competitive multiplayer. That means the game can serve two different audiences: players who want a character-led Star Wars story and players who mainly want repeatable races against other competitors.

The official launch article dated October 6, 2026 lists worldwide availability on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. Steam’s listing gives the PC release date as October 6, 2026. What should you know before starting?
- Expect an original story. The game uses movie-connected material but does not retell a Star Wars film.
- Do not rely on an exact timeline year. The setting is after the Empire’s fall during New Republic rebuilding, with no precise in-universe year stated in the official descriptions.
- Choose a vehicle for its role. Landspeeders, speeder bikes, skim speeders and podracers have distinct tactical identities.
- Plan for repeat attempts. Persistent perks and unlocks are designed to make later runs more capable than the first.
- Use the mode that matches your goal. Campaign is for Shade’s story, while Scenario and Arcade provide more focused racing experiences.
- Separate franchise connection from canon status. Official collaboration and film references are confirmed; a formal canon classification is not stated in the cited launch material.
Why the movie connections still matter
Even without a formal canon statement, the film links affect how the game feels and what its world can communicate quickly. A player who recognizes Jakku, Crait, Tatooine or Sebulba immediately understands that the races belong to the same cultural and visual universe as the movies. The references also connect different eras of Star Wars: the sequel-era planets sit alongside a podracing character from the prequel era.
That mix suits a game about an underground league. The post-Empire setting can move between familiar worlds while introducing new racers and local conflicts. You get the recognition of established Star Wars locations without being confined to a film’s sequence of events.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsThe official creative goal
In the StarWars.com gameplay-trailer coverage, Lucasfilm Games executive producer Craig Derrick described the goal this way: “Our goal with Galactic Racer is to deliver a racing experience that’s cinematic, skill-driven, and unmistakably Star Wars, and this gameplay reveal is a major step toward that vision.”
That statement captures the game’s intended balance. “Cinematic” points to the recognizable universe and presentation; “skill-driven” points to racing decisions and vehicle control; and “unmistakably Star Wars” reflects the locations, characters, craft and broader setting documented in the launch material.
Bottom line for movie fans
STAR WARS: Galactic Racer is connected to the movies through official franchise membership, Lucasfilm Games collaboration, film-linked planets and the returning character Sebulba. Its story takes place after the Empire’s fall while the New Republic rebuilds, and it follows Shade through an original underground racing league rather than adapting a film plot. Play it as a new Star Wars story and racing system built in the movie universe—not as a scene-by-scene movie tie-in, and not as a game whose formal canon status has been explicitly announced.
