Yes, if you want a combat-first fantasy adventure built around open-ended exploration and AI companions; probably not if you need clear quest directions, easy travel, or a tightly delivered story. That recommendation applies across PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. Platform choice is a separate question: launch-era performance reviews are dated, and later console updates describe a 60 FPS Performance Mode target rather than proving a locked 60 FPS everywhere.
One timing detail matters: as of October 4, 2026, Capcom’s paid Dark Arisen expansion is scheduled to launch on October 9. Check storefront listings on or after that date to see whether you are buying the base game, expansion, or a combined package.

What kind of game is Dragon’s Dogma 2?
Capcom describes Dragon’s Dogma 2 as an action RPG. It launched on March 22, 2024, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Its party adventure is designed for solo play, with AI-controlled Pawn characters accompanying the player. Capcom’s April 2, 2024 release announcement said the game had sold 2.5 million units by that announcement.
The appeal is the act of adventuring: exploring a large world, shaping a party, experimenting with combat and vocations, and responding to encounters as they unfold. Windows Central’s March 2024 review praised those strengths, especially combat and open-world play, while noting that the game offers little hand-holding. Its findings describe the launch version, not a current platform comparison. Read the Windows Central review.

Who is likely to enjoy it?
Play it if exploration and combat are the draw
- You like discovering routes and working out what to do without a constant stream of markers.
- You enjoy active, tactical combat and experimenting with party composition and vocations.
- You find AI companions and the unexpected situations of a journey more interesting than a carefully guided narrative.
Be cautious if you want frictionless direction
- Some quests can be opaque and may require experimentation or outside guidance.
- The story takes a back seat to combat and exploration.
- Fast, convenient travel and concise questing are important to you.
Those trade-offs make this a preference-based recommendation, not a universal one. If the strengths sound appealing but the rough edges do not, waiting for a sale is a sensible option; that is a value judgment, not a claim about current pricing.
Which platform should you choose?
The evidence does not support declaring one platform the current performance winner. Windows Central tested several PCs and Xbox Series X, plus Series S, around launch in 2024. Its PC results depended on the tested hardware and settings, and its console observations should not be presented as the game’s current state after later updates. No same-build independent comparison across updated PC, PS5, Series X, and Series S is established here.

| PC | Settings and hardware choices let players adjust image and performance trade-offs. The cited review’s PC findings are hardware-specific and from launch; current comparative results are not established. | Does your PC meet the current requirements, and do you value adjustable settings enough to choose it? |
| PS5 | Capcom later described Performance Mode tuning intended to reach 60 FPS. That is a vendor target/tuning statement, not independent proof of a stable 60 FPS in every scene. | Do you prefer the PlayStation ecosystem and accept console-specific performance trade-offs? |
| Xbox Series X|S | A July 2026 report included Series X and Series S in console performance work, but did not provide a controlled, quantified comparison of current Series S behavior. Do not assume Series X and Series S perform identically. | Which console do you own? Check evidence for that specific model rather than assuming parity. |
What changed about console performance?
At launch in 2024, performance was a prominent concern in reviews. Those observations are useful historical context, but they should not be quoted as a description of the current build without an explicit date qualification.
In a July 16, 2026 report, TechRadar relayed producer Naoto Oyama’s comment that the team had been seeking small tweaks to build a “big performance improvement on consoles” in Performance Mode. The report said an August update would allow the game to reach 60 FPS in that mode. Capcom’s Steam update language also described Performance Mode as tuned to run at 60 FPS on PS5 and Xbox Series X. These statements communicate a target or tuning effort; they do not establish a locked rate across scenes, nor do they provide an independent current PC-versus-console benchmark. Should you buy before Dark Arisen launches?
As of October 4, 2026, Capcom has announced Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen as a paid expansion that adds a new story to the March 2024 game, with release scheduled for October 9, 2026. Capcom says it is intended to add accessibility and content in response to feedback. Its announcement lists a combined base-game-and-expansion package for Switch 2, while the expansion is listed separately for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. See Capcom’s June 10, 2026 announcement.
Because the announced date is still five days away, do not assume the expansion is already available or that every platform has the same package structure. On or after October 9, check the store listing carefully: confirm whether it is the base game, expansion, or bundle, and verify the current price and any upgrade terms. Those prices and terms are not established here.

How to read the sales figures
Capcom reported that Dragon’s Dogma 2 had sold 2.5 million units in its April 2, 2024 announcement. The same announcement said the Dragon’s Dogma series had surpassed 10 million cumulative units. Capcom later reported more than 14 million cumulative series units as of March 31, 2026. The latter figures cover the franchise, not sales of Dragon’s Dogma 2 alone, so they are not directly comparable.
