Dragon’s Dogma 2 is worth considering if you want a single-player fantasy action RPG built around vocation choices, exploration, and customizable companion Pawns. It is a less obvious purchase if you need confirmed platform performance, a co-op campaign, or a specific PC frame-rate guarantee: the official material available for this guide does not establish those things.
The edition decision changed with Capcom’s announced Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen expansion. Capcom announced a combined package for Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on October 9, 2026. US PlayStation and Xbox digital listings reviewed on October 13, 2026 showed a $39.99 base edition and a $49.99 Dark Arisen package. Those are storefront observations, not permanent prices, and the listing for your region may differ.

What you are buying
Dragon’s Dogma 2 is presented by PlayStation as a single-player, narrative-driven action RPG. You create an Arisen, choose a vocation, and travel through the kingdoms of Vermund and Battahl. Combat is tied to the vocation you select, while enemies and the surrounding environment can react to what you do. The official descriptions make those systems the game’s central identity; they do not by themselves prove how consistently every mechanic performs in every situation.
A single-player campaign with optional online systems
The campaign is designed for one player. You do not need a multiplayer group to play through the story. The online element concerns Pawns: you create one main Pawn and can hire two additional Pawns from in-game options or from other players over the internet. That makes the game single-player with network-assisted companion sharing, not a co-op adventure in which another person directly controls a character beside you.
#1 Best Overall
- A Grand Adventure – Dragon’s Dogma 2 begins in a subterranean jail, where the Dragon’s voice echoes in the fog of lost memories.
- Single-Player Cooperation – Up to three mysterious otherworldly beings, known as Pawns, accompany the Arisen throughout their journey.
- Made with RE ENGINE – Capcom’s advanced RE ENGINE produces vividly detailed, high fidelity graphics combined with immersive physics and complex and reactive character AI to create a setting where decisions, and their consequences, come to life.
- Pre-order Bonus: Superior Weapons Quartet
Vocations shape how you play
Your Arisen’s vocation is the game’s primary character-choice axis. It determines the style of action you bring into encounters, so choosing a vocation is more consequential than selecting a cosmetic class label. If you enjoy trying different approaches to combat and adjusting your character around those choices, the vocation system is a strong reason to look closer. If you want a fixed, highly scripted combat role with little experimentation, the official description gives you less reason to expect that experience.
Pawns are customizable companions
Your main Pawn is created alongside your Arisen and travels as part of your party. Two additional Pawns can be hired, including Pawns associated with other players. The system is intended to let you shape a party without requiring another human player to be online at the same time. Because Pawn information can be uploaded when you rest at an inn while connected, the network layer can continue to matter even though the story itself remains single-player.
Who should buy Dragon’s Dogma 2?
The answer depends more on the type of RPG you want than on a universal review score. The official sources establish the game’s structure and current packages, but the material available for this buying guide does not establish a reliable cross-platform performance ranking or a current independent review consensus. Use the following fit test instead of assuming that a high or low score elsewhere answers your particular question.
| If this sounds like you | Why the game may fit | What to verify first |
|---|---|---|
| You want a solo fantasy action RPG | The campaign is described as single-player and narrative-driven. | Confirm the edition and platform listing you intend to buy. |
| You enjoy experimenting with combat roles | Vocations are a central character and combat choice. | Make sure a vocation-led structure is more appealing than a fixed class. |
| You like party building without scheduling co-op | You control a main Pawn and can hire two additional Pawns. | Decide whether online Pawn sharing is useful to you; it is optional to the campaign. |
| You are choosing between the base game and an expansion bundle | The Dark Arisen package includes the base game and a new-story expansion. | Check the live regional listing and exactly which bonuses are included. |
| You require known performance on a particular PC | The Steam FAQ directs buyers to current requirements. | Compare your hardware with the live Steam page; a requirement is not a performance guarantee. |
| You expect a co-op campaign | The game’s described structure is single-player. | Do not buy expecting another person to join your story as a playable co-op partner. |

- A Grand Adventure – Dragon’s Dogma 2 begins in a subterranean jail, where the Dragon’s voice echoes in the fog of lost memories. With their heart taken by the Dragon, the Arisen is set on a path to slay that symbol of the world’s destruction as it soars through the sky on massive wings, breathing flames that scorch everything in its path. With the Arisen’s future veiled in mystery, what challenges and triumphs await on the path to their destiny?
- Single-Player Cooperation – Up to three mysterious otherworldly beings, known as Pawns, accompany the Arisen throughout their journey. Pawns create the feeling of a cooperative gameplay experience by offering unique characteristics, skills, and knowledge gained from their experiences with other Arisen.

What Dark Arisen changes
Capcom’s June 10, 2026 announcement describes Dark Arisen as a paid expansion that adds a new story to Dragon’s Dogma 2, which was released in March 2024. The announced release date for the package is October 9, 2026. On Switch 2, Capcom says the package combines the base game and expansion in one package. The PlayStation and Xbox listings reviewed also present Dark Arisen as a bundle containing the game, expansion, Explorer’s Camping Kit, and custom sounds.
Choose the base edition when
- You want to play the original campaign first and are not sure you want the additional story.
- The lower observed price matters more than having the expansion immediately.
- Your platform listing offers a base copy but does not present the bundle at a price you consider worthwhile.
Choose Dark Arisen when
- You already know you want the new-story expansion.
- The roughly $10 difference shown on the reviewed US PlayStation and Xbox listings is acceptable to you, subject to current pricing.
- You want the listed Explorer’s Camping Kit and custom sounds included with the bundle.
- You are buying on Switch 2 and prefer the announced combined package rather than separate purchases.
Do not assume that a bundle includes identical extras on every storefront until you read the current platform description. The reviewed PlayStation and Xbox pages list the camping kit and custom sounds; Capcom’s announcement establishes the combined Switch 2 package but does not provide a Switch 2 price in the material available here.

Capcom announced Dark Arisen for Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. That gives you four platform families to consider, but the available official material does not support a reliable ranking of their performance, image quality, loading behavior, or frame rates. Choose using access, hardware, controller preference, and the exact edition listing rather than an unsupported “best platform” claim.

PlayStation 5
The US PlayStation Store listing reviewed for this guide offered both the $39.99 Standard Edition and the $49.99 Dark Arisen package. Before purchasing, verify that the page still shows the desired edition, expansion, and bonuses, and check whether your account region matches the price you are seeing.
Xbox Series X|S
The Xbox Store listing reviewed showed Dragon’s Dogma 2 at $39.99+ and the Dark Arisen package at $49.99+. The plus sign is part of the observed storefront presentation, so confirm the final price and included content in your account’s region before completing the transaction.
Nintendo Switch 2
Capcom announced a Switch 2 package that combines the base game and expansion. The reviewed material does not state a Switch 2 price, physical availability, or a comparative performance result. If Switch 2 is your preferred system, use its current store or retailer page to confirm format, price, storage requirements, and the exact contents of the package.

PC is an announced platform for Dark Arisen. Because performance depends on your hardware and settings, it requires an extra check before purchase. Capcom’s Steam FAQ, updated October 12, 2026, directs buyers to the Steam store for current system requirements and warns that the game may not run properly when graphics settings exceed the PC’s specifications.

- On your journey, you’ll be joined by Pawns, mysterious otherworldly beings, in an adventure so unique you will feel as if accompanied by other players while on your own adventure.
- All of these elements are elevated further by the latest in graphics, artificial intelligence (AI), and physics technology to create a truly immersive fantasy world in Dragon's Dogma 2.
PC buyers: check hardware before paying
Do not treat a generic system requirement as a promise that your computer will deliver a particular frame rate or visual preset. The official FAQ specifically points to the live Steam listing, where requirements can be updated. Match that information against your own machine, not against a friend’s result or a review of a different configuration.
- Open the current Steam store page for Dragon’s Dogma 2 or Dark Arisen.
- Record the listed operating-system, processor, memory, graphics, and storage requirements for the edition you intend to buy.
- Compare those requirements with your PC’s actual components and available storage.
- Pay particular attention to the graphics setting warning: exceeding the specifications can prevent the game from running properly.
- If your hardware is close to the minimum, plan to use conservative graphics settings and accept that the official information does not guarantee a particular result.
- Check controller support if you do not want to play with mouse and keyboard. Capcom’s FAQ lists mouse and keyboard support and several supported controllers, but you should confirm that your specific device is recognized.
The evidence available here does not provide a dependable benchmark for a named graphics card, processor, resolution, or frame-rate target. Anyone promising a universal performance outcome from the general requirements is making a broader claim than the official material supports.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How the online Pawn features work
Dragon’s Dogma 2 can be played as a single-player game, but the Pawn system has connected features. You can hire two additional Pawns from in-game choices or from other players over the internet. Your own Pawn’s information can be uploaded by resting at an inn while connected.
If you start offline
Capcom’s support FAQ says that when the game is started offline, Network Features must be turned on after you reconnect if you want to use online features. This matters if you begin playing without an internet connection and later expect Pawn sharing or hiring to work automatically.
Best Value
- Relic Expedition Cycle – Throughout their journey in the kingdom of Norgan, the Arisen must unearth and appraise forgotten relics to unlock powerful new weapons and skills.
- New Dungeon Challenges – The 12 freshly uncovered Lost Rites dungeons house trials designed by the Pathfinder to sharpen the Arisen’s skills and recover rare equipment once held by past Arisen that now lay dormant.
- Deeper Character Customization – New tattoo and hair options have been added to the already robust character creation tool in Dragon’s Dogma 2 so Arisen and Pawns can have even deeper personalization.
- Now on Nintendo Switch 2 – Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen brings the classic fantasy world of Dragon’s Dogma 2 and the Dark Arisen Expansion to the Nintendo Switch 2 for the first time.
- Pre-order Bonuses – The Norgan Fashion Set - Northern Attire will be available as a pre-order bonus, which can be accessed via in-game storage at launch.
A simple connection checklist
- Connect the console or PC to the internet.
- Open the game’s network-related settings and turn on Network Features after reconnecting.
- Rest at an inn while connected if you want your Pawn information uploaded.
- Confirm that the Pawn options you want are available before assuming a network problem is a game-save problem.
These features do not turn the campaign into multiplayer co-op. They let a solo player use companion data associated with other players while retaining control of the party and story progression.
A buying process that avoids the common mistakes
- Decide whether the core structure fits. You are choosing a single-player, narrative-driven fantasy action RPG centered on vocations, exploration, combat reactions, and Pawns. Do not buy it for a co-op story.
- Pick your platform. Select Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, or PC based on the system you already own and the controls you prefer. The available official information does not establish a universal performance winner.
- Choose the package. Compare the base listing with Dark Arisen. The expansion adds a new story; the reviewed PlayStation and Xbox bundles also list the Explorer’s Camping Kit and custom sounds.
- Verify the live page. Check region, currency, edition name, platform, digital or physical format, and included content immediately before payment.
- Run the PC check if applicable. Compare your hardware with the current Steam requirements and do not exceed the specifications through graphics settings without accepting the associated risk.
- Plan your network use. If Pawn hiring and sharing matter to you, make sure you can reconnect, enable Network Features, and rest at an inn while connected.
- Keep the receipt and edition details. If a storefront updates a bundle or a sale changes the price after your purchase, the original listing details help you identify what your license includes.
Important limits on what can be concluded
The official PlayStation and Capcom descriptions establish the intended structure, features, and platform availability. They are not independent evaluations of every system. The material available for this guide does not establish a current review aggregate, a comparative platform benchmark, performance on every PC configuration, or current physical-retail availability.
That distinction is important when you see an online recommendation that says one platform is definitively superior or that a particular computer will reach a precise frame rate. Such a claim requires testing conditions and evidence not supplied by the official listings discussed here. Treat it as separate information to verify rather than as a fact established by the game’s store page.

Capcom reported more than 14 million cumulative units sold for the Dragon’s Dogma series as of March 31, 2026. That figure covers the series, not Dragon’s Dogma 2 alone, so it should not be read as a sales total for this game or as proof of quality. It does show that the franchise has a substantial historical audience, while leaving the individual purchase decision to the edition, platform, and play style you choose.
Bottom-line decision
Buy Dragon’s Dogma 2 if the combination of solo narrative play, vocation-based combat, exploration, and customizable Pawns is what you want, and if the current listing for your platform fits your budget. The Dark Arisen package is the straightforward choice when you want its additional story and the listed bundle extras; the base edition is the lower-cost route when you want to start with the original game.
Before checkout, verify the live regional price and contents. On PC, compare the current Steam requirements with your own hardware. If you expect online Pawn features, plan to reconnect and enable Network Features. Those checks address the concrete uncertainties that the available official information leaves open.
