Crawl (2019) was reported as streaming on Netflix in a Tom’s Guide article published October 6, 2026. Netflix availability varies by country and can change, so check your local catalog. The film follows a daughter trying to reach her injured father as a hurricane floods their home and alligators close in.
What is Crawl about?
Haley Keller, played by Kaya Scodelario, ignores evacuation orders during a Category 5 hurricane to search for her father, Dave (Barry Pepper). She finds him badly injured beneath their old family home. As floodwater rises and alligators enter the property, the two try to find a way out while also protecting their dog, Sugar.

The danger comes from more than the animals: the confined spaces beneath the house are dark, waterlogged and increasingly difficult to escape. Haley’s strained history with her father gives her a personal reason to keep fighting, beyond simply surviving the storm.

Crawl keeps its premise focused: a hurricane, rising water, a trapped family and predators moving through the flooded property. Each attempted escape brings another obstacle, while the setting leaves Haley and Dave with little room to maneuver. The crawl-space sequences make that pressure especially immediate.

Tom’s Guide Senior Streaming Writer (UK) Alix Blackburn praises the film’s direct pacing and Scodelario’s determined heroine. She writes, “The movie is tight, relentless and never loses sight of what it wants to be.” That is Blackburn’s assessment, not an aggregate critical verdict.
Is Crawl better than 2026’s creature features?
That comparison is a matter of taste. Blackburn says she prefers Crawl to the 2026 creature features she has watched, including Thrash and The Devil’s Mouth, which feature sharks, and Hungry, which centers on a territorial hippopotamus. Her article does not offer comparable scores or establish an objective ranking.

The films also lean on different kinds of tension: Crawl combines a family rescue with a hurricane and a confined home, while the other titles use different animal threats and settings. Viewers who like a compact, escalating survival story may find Blackburn’s recommendation persuasive; those seeking a broader comparison should treat it as one writer’s preference.

Blackburn acknowledges that the CGI is not always convincing, but says it did not derail her experience of the film. Her article is a favorable personal recommendation, not a technical-effects review, so it does not establish how the effects compare with other films.
