Usually, no: if you only watch a service in a few predictable stretches, paying month by month during those stretches can cost less than keeping it all year. The exception is when an annual plan or bundle matches what you will actually watch. Compare the cost of access with your expected viewing months—not just the number of subscriptions.
The prices below are listed Canadian prices captured on October 4, 2026. They can change and may exclude tax; check the provider’s current terms before subscribing.

Start with the months you will actually watch
For each service, write down the specific show, film, live event or other programming you want, and the months you expect to watch it. Current catalogues and availability windows are not established here, so check each service directly rather than assuming a title will remain available.

Divide the cost of continuous access by those viewing months to see what you are effectively paying for each month you watch. For example, if you expect to watch a service in three months, compare the cost of keeping it for 12 months with three months of monthly subscriptions. This is a budgeting calculation, not a forecast of guaranteed savings; billing terms, plan features and any reactivation friction matter too.

Disney+ and Crave listed prices come from their Canadian pages accessed October 4, 2026: Disney+ plans and bundles and Crave Subscribe. Netflix’s plan terms are on its Plans and Pricing page. Prices and offers are volatile; confirm current Canadian pricing and applicable taxes before making a decision.
When each service makes sense to keep
Crave
Keep Crave continuously only if its programming is worth the cost in the months you would otherwise pay without watching. Its subscription page says subscribers may cancel, that payment renews automatically at the then-applicable price, and that refunds are not offered. Renewal periods vary: the page says renewals in Quebec are monthly even when another selected period is shown. Check the terms for your location and selected plan before signing up. Crave’s subscription terms include the current plan listing.

Disney+
A monthly plan is easier to match to a short viewing window; the annual Standard or Premium option may suit someone who expects to use the service through much of the year. Compare the upfront annual cost with the monthly cost for the months you would watch, and include plan features in that decision. The Canadian listing says Standard and Premium include ad-free movies and series, while Standard With Ads has no downloads; quality and concurrent streams also differ by tier. Disney+’s Canadian plans and bundles set out the listed options.

Netflix
Netflix’s monthly billing and cancellation policy can work for a rotate-in, rotate-out approach. Netflix says cancellation stops future charges while access continues through the end of the paid period, unless the account is restarted. Some eligible accounts can pause for one month at a time, extend the pause up to three months total, or unpause sooner; pause is not available with some payment methods. Check whether you pay Netflix directly or through a partner, and whether your account is eligible. See Netflix’s plan information and cancellation instructions.

Prime Video
Separate the value of Prime membership from the cost of an individual Prime Video Channel. The available Amazon Canada information confirms that Crave became available through Prime Video Channels in 2024, and quoted a Crave Premium offer price at that time; it does not establish today’s Prime membership price or current Crave Channel price. Check the current offer and its billing terms in your own account before comparing it with subscribing to Crave directly. Amazon Canada’s March 19, 2024 announcement describes the historical channel availability.

On October 4, 2026, Disney+ advertised a Disney+ Standard With Ads and Crave Standard With Ads bundle for $15.75/month, compared with the individually listed prices of $8.99 and $11.99/month. The page described the saving as over 24%. The bundle is cheaper than buying both at those listed prices, but it is not automatically cheaper for you: if you would use only one service, compare the bundle with that single subscription. It is most relevant when you want both services in the same months. Confirm current eligibility and price on the Disney+ Canada page and Crave’s subscription page.

A practical keep, cancel or rotate decision
- Pick the programming first. Note what you want from each service and when you expect it to be available.
- Count your viewing months. Estimate how many months you will actually use each service during the next year.
- Compare costs on the same basis. Compare a year of continuous access with monthly subscriptions for only your expected viewing months; include annual-plan commitments and the features you need.
- Check billing before cancelling. Confirm the renewal date, payment provider and cancellation or pause rules. Netflix’s rules differ for eligible pauses and partner-paid accounts; Crave’s renewal period differs in Quebec.
- Recheck the offer before you commit. Prices, plans and bundle eligibility can change, so use the provider’s current Canadian terms rather than an old offer or a price from another country.
