Short answer: Community Day Sucker Punch gives Zoroark more fast-move damage, but it does not fix the Pokémon’s exceptionally low bulk. A specialist matchup analysis rates Zoroark poorly in both Great and Ultra League, so the move is a situational option—not a reason to treat Zoroark as a strong general-purpose PvP investment.
How to get Community Day Sucker Punch
Pokémon GO’s October 2026 Community Day for Zorua is scheduled for Saturday, October 10, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. local time. Evolve Zorua during that window or within four hours afterward to get a Zoroark that knows Sucker Punch, according to the official event announcement.

Zorua appears more frequently in the wild during the event. The announcement also lists 3× catch XP, 2× catch Candy, and a 2× chance for trainers at level 31 or higher to receive Candy XL from catches. Most bonuses are limited to the three-hour event; specified bonuses continue until 9:00 p.m. local time. Regular Lure Modules have a very high chance of attracting Zorua from 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
The optional Special Research ticket and Community Day Ultra Box are not required to obtain the move. The evolution window is the relevant condition.

Why Sucker Punch does not solve Zoroark’s PvP problem
The main issue is survivability. In JRE47’s October 2026 analysis, Zoroark’s Great League stats are 157 Attack, 88 Defense, and 103 HP; its listed highest-stat-product spread is 1/15/15 at 1,496 CP and level 21.5. For Ultra League, the reported stats are 202 Attack, 113 Defense, and 134 HP, with a 1/15/15 spread at 2,497 CP and level 42. The author characterizes its bulk as exceptionally low.
That fragility matters because Zoroark needs time to apply fast-move pressure and reach charge attacks. A faster-damaging fast move can improve a matchup, but it does not make Zoroark sturdier or erase the risk that it will be knocked out before its attack sequence pays off.

Sucker Punch versus Shadow Claw and Snarl
JRE47’s move figures show the trade-off: Sucker Punch deals more damage per turn than Shadow Claw, while Shadow Claw and Snarl generate energy faster.

| Fast move | Damage per turn (DPT) | Energy per turn (EPT) | Practical trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sucker Punch | 4.0 | 3.5 | More fast-move damage, slower charge-move energy |
| Shadow Claw | 3.0 | 4.0 | Less fast-move damage, faster energy generation |
| Snarl | 1.67 | 4.33 | Lowest fast-move damage, highest energy generation |
Foul Play costs 40 energy. Under the analysis’s move-energy figures, Shadow Claw generates eight energy per use and reaches the cost after five Claws. Sucker Punch generates seven per use, so it needs a sixth move to get past 40 energy. That slower pacing can be costly for a Pokémon that already struggles to stay in battle.

Great League: matchup gains are narrow
In the cited one-shield comparison, Shadow Claw beats several matchups that Sucker Punch does not, including Jellicent, Cramorant, Empoleon, Feraligatr, and Tinkaton. Sucker Punch has different wins in no-shield and two-shield scenarios, but the analysis describes the overall results as low. These are matchup simulations, not guaranteed outcomes or player-wide win statistics.
The analysis also finds that other Dark-type options substantially outperform Zoroark in its Great League comparisons. It names Umbreon, Thievul, Mightyena, Alolan Persian, and Absol, while noting that the relative results depend on the simulation context and metagame snapshot. The practical takeaway is not that every listed alternative is universally better in every team, but that Zoroark’s new move does not establish it as a dependable Great League pick.

Ultra League: some improved matchups, poor overall results
JRE47 reports that Sucker Punch improves some Ultra League matchups compared with Shadow Claw, including Feraligatr, Swampert, and Talonflame. Even with those gains, the assessment remains poor, reporting fewer than 25% wins in its cited matchup analysis. That figure belongs to the author’s matchup assessment; it is not an independently measured live-use or tournament win rate.

Which Zoroark moves should you use?
JRE47 lists these charge moves: Foul Play (65 damage, 40 energy), Night Shade (70 damage, 45 energy), Sludge Bomb (80 damage, 50 energy), and Flamethrower (90 damage, 55 energy). Foul Play is the lowest-cost option listed and pairs with the fast-move pacing discussed above. Flamethrower offers a higher-cost coverage option, but the analysis does not consider coverage enough to overcome Zoroark’s low bulk and weak overall results.

For a move choice, decide whether a specific matchup calls for Sucker Punch’s extra fast-move damage or whether faster energy generation from Shadow Claw is more useful. The cited simulations do not support treating one move as a universal fix or declaring a single best set for every team and shield scenario.
Is it worth evolving or building Zoroark?
If you want Sucker Punch for collection or future experimentation, evolve within the event’s stated window. For a serious Great or Ultra League investment, the cited analysis does not recommend Zoroark as a general-purpose choice. Its matchup improvements are real within the simulations, but they do not change the central limitation: it is exceptionally fragile and its overall results remain poor.
The assessment is a specialist’s matchup analysis by JRE47, published October 9, 2026, rather than independently verified live tournament data. Treat its specific wins and losses as scenario-dependent guidance, not a prediction that every battle will play out the same way.
